I took music theory in high school, a course at The College Of St. Rose, but never took band lessons growing up, so I don't read music. Well, it'd take me a long time and, hell if I know the all the symbols.
Currently, I have a wah-wah and a different pedal. I now just hook up and play, I don't even bother recording myself anymore. I used to tape myself all the time on "little tiny" cassette recorders and I'd make two-track tapes, which sounded pretty-much-like shit. Now I have Nero, to record on the computer, and I'm too lazy to do that. I will soon, though.
When I bought my first guitar, at 16 yo, it was something and a Peavey amp from the 70's, for $100's. I got three free lessons and with that the teacher taught me "Broons Bane".
It's a classical-guitar peice created by Alex Lifeson, of Rush, and you can find it off of their "Exit...Stage Left" album, released in 1981. It's a live album and "Broon's Bane" leads into a song called "The Trees", which also starts off with a classical guitar piece, although this one is easier.
And then it rocks!!!
This is the verse Geddy Lee sings while accompanying Alex finger-picking the guitar:
There is unrest in the forest.
There is trouble with the trees.
For the Maples want more sunlight.
And the Oaks' ignore their pleas.

I've just started a month ago, but it's fun. I have my dad's old classical guitar.

Been playing 9 years, and i play anything good (of the rock genre)
I have a Hohner acoustic guitar and an Encore electric (not the best guitars ever, but they do the job;))
My brother has a Gibson Epiphone, in black (same as Slash - G 'n' R)
I ought to practice more, i hardly ever play.. I will start playing more often starting now lol

I'm working on my theory but I have much to learn. For some good flamenco artists, check out "strunz and farah" and "al di meola, paco de lucia, and john mclaughlin"
