The reason they associate weed with violence is pretty simple. Since weed is illegal, it has to be dealt with in an underground market which is run by lawbreakers, and in which the only way of resolving disputes is violence. The same thing would happen if tobacco were made illegal, and they'd be claiming about how tobacco sends you into violent outbursts.

Watch Reefer Madness. My fav part is when a guy accidentaly kills his gf because a guy was trying to rape her (and in his "marihuana psychosis" he thought she was cheating on him). They blame it on a guy that was passed out and when that guy is being led away to prison a girl breaks down and confesses everything, then runs screaming out of a third story window.
If this is confusing you then I'm glad I'm not the only one. That movie is so fucked up that following the plot is impossible, I don't even think it really HAS a plot.
