A Proud Week For America?
I wouldn't personally blame Bush for the problems in New Orleans right now. There are a lot of people at fault. Last hurricane season, it was mentioned a lot in the news that if a hurricane of significant strength ever hit that region of the country, New Orleans would be completely destroyed. The local government for that area, as well as the federal government, ignored this concern. When it finally happened, there was no plan in place, and as a result, this situation resulted.
There are government officials that have said that have said that they don't understand why more people didn't evacuate the city when a mandatory evacuation warning was issued before the storm. In reality, 27% of the people in the city live below the poverty line, and had no means of evacuating. No money + no car = no evacuation. And it is even more of a reality that the majority of these people are black.
Being a black American myself, I won't go as far as to say that our government ignores or hates black people and poor people (unlike black "celebrities" such as Kanye West and Jesse Jackson). The mayor of New Orleans is African-American, and it would be just as reasonable to blame his lack of planning for this hurricane, when it was well known that this disaster was a very real possibility.
I am appauled with the fact that we can bomb the shit out of Afghanistan and Iraq and fly in there and drop meals to their citizens, but we can't get sandwiches and a few bottles of water to hurricane survivors in our own country for 4 or 5 days. I do blame the government for the extremely slow and poor response to this disaster. But I will not say that George Bush is letting them starve because he doesn't care about blacks and the less fortunate. I live in Los Angeles now, and a huge earthquake could hit this city at any moment and leave us without food, water, and power. I just hope that we learn from this and that we are much better prepared for this scenario than we were in New Orleans.
Although the leaders of this country look like morons right now, I will say that I am prouder than ever to be an American because of the way our citizens are pulling together to help when our leaders have not. Yes, the government here is pretty fucked up in a lot of ways, but don't let that make you think all Americans are bad. 300 million people can't just leave and go somewhere else just because half of them didn't vote for the current president and don't agree with the war. And just like the entire world pulled together to help tsunami victims, it's great to see that the rest of the world is doing the same for New Orleans.

We dont get a new president till 2008, by then the country will be fucked, And yes EVERYONE in America is helping pretty much I mean hell even a 9 year old kid opended a lemonade stand just for the people in need.

If ur black why do u hav a pic of a white man. Me thinks u are a disinfo agent, Who u work NSA CIA FBI NSS FEMA...The governemnt is at fault after everything they could of sent water, food etc to the people in the conviction center, superdome . Even medical supplies and why did it take over 4days to do anything, and why was fema blocking aid going in. a cover up brewing just like 9/11, JFK.

Ermi dont forget its "cool" to bash the french (as it is up here as we live with an entire province of em ;) ). Nevermind the fact without them there would be no america....Nevermind the fact they spent tons of money to give America a present of your new found freedom (The statue of liberty.....every seen the 15 ft tall one you gave back in return?).
Im not a big fan of current "french politics". However the constant name calling and such , such as a famous one (that I admit I even like) "a bunch of cheese eating surrender monkeys" is historically inaccurate. If you average the amount of wars over time into a ratio the USA has actually retreated more.....But hey dont let facts get in the way of your freedom fries ;).
Same goes for my fellow canadians(as to americans), so what if they violate treaties they set up with us and demand we acquiesce to their side of it while violating ours.....We still shouldnt bash em all the time....seems more fashionable up here to bash americans then the french. Unfortunately alot of people actually bash the people and not the administration......
So basically we have the french and americans bashing each other for doing the exact same thing the other one does.....amazingly ironic.......
(p.s NO single one country saved anyone's ass in WW2 nor in any WW, so get over yourselves. Shoot most people claim to know alot about military history. But when asked when the first (official)special forces teams were made you get "aroogh?" for those who would like to know it was in ww2 ;), look it up id rather you learn then me just tell ya :) ). You might be surprised who made up these special forces.

The magnitude of the devistation in New Orleans is beyond what any of us has ever seen. I can understand a day to get prepared but to leave those people stranted like that for almost a week in the richest country in the world was just horrific. We can get food and medical supplies to third world countries in less time than it took for us to help our own people. Something is seriously wrong. Even Castro offered to send help...and what did Bush do....just ignored him. In a disaster it doesnt matter where the help comes from as long as it COMES. God help us in the event of a nuclear disaster. We couldnt even help a flooded city. So all those billions of dollars we spent on being prepeared....seems like its wasted. Last but not least...while I Dont condone the looting...Imagine if you will that for days on end....NOBODY is comming to your aid. You your family your friends all starving and dehydrating while I am not a criminal I would have broken into wallmart and taken some clothes and some fruits and whatever I could to drink. In a situation like that its about survival. Now the assholes that took the guns and looted jewelry stores....sorry but the diamonds aint gonna get you shit...they might if you live long enought to pawn them but as somebody on here said

Very true. World War II was a collective effort on the part of many armies. It probably would have failed without the US, but it probably would have failed without Stalin's Red Army too. If Hitler didn't have that eastern front to worry about, he very well may have captured the British Isles.
