Another question for Zandor.........
Hey Zandor,
From the picture it looks like the opening acting as an inlet needs to cover a larger area of the filter so as to spread the airflow more evenly across the entire surface of the filter.
Much the same as the outlet fan needs to draw from an area that sucks air through the entire surface of the filter on the exit side.
Am I correct in this? We have the same type of flow problems with our racecar radiators and oil coolers. Just going through a small section of the filter does not take full advantage of the charcoal area.

Max Blast

It's more a matter of air pressure divided evenly over the surface area. Moving a large volume will not last as long as moving it slower through a larger surface. It does not take as long as you think for the charcoal to scrub the air. It's better to suck the air through the filters then it is to blow it through them.
For your racecars try adding fans in the front to not only suck air into filters but it will also break up debris that may block the fins too. You need to extend air-cooling past the fins too because of static backpressure that the ends will create.
I raced off road for 12 years with Score when it was starting up. I even drove Baja 1000 6 times. That was fun but before kids, once kids enter the picture all toys were sold so no more racing for me. I drove a class 5 1600 and class 11 and Class 8 open trucks.

Zandor so your saying that if i was to turn my fan around and have it suck through the filter, as opposed to blowing through, it would work in my favor? That is compared to the way i have it setup now.
Another question for Zandor.........
Yes but you still need the open air space between the last filter and the fan so the air can draw from the whole filter and not just a few inches. The minimum open air space should be 8" but if you have a more powerful fan then you need more room. From the looks of the fan you are running you may have better luck with a 12" air gap. When you force the air through you are building positive air pressure and forcing it through, the slower it goes through the more pressure builds up.
By sucking it through the pressure is more stable and constant providing a stable airflow.

Sorry for all the questions but i like learning so much.(especially about this) So here is one more. If i was to attach ducting to the exhaust of the fan so the air leaves the room would that still eliminate the odor?
Another question for Zandor.........
that's pretty cool. posting so i can subscribe..it is great to see someone take on a project and do it, post pix and get good expert advice along the way. this one's worth saving...

As long as its after the coal filter then sure.
It should be more like
room
--------------------
filters/coal sandwich
--------------------
8-12" open space
--------------------
vortex blower sucking
through filters
--------------------
Vent to ???
Note: The longer you make the run the lower the air pressure will be and the less amount of air will move through the tube. 6' is fine fyi.
Another question for Zandor.........
Thanks for the knowledge Zandor. The fan is only four and a half feet from the vent so the ducting won't be that long. So what do you think my water cycle should be?

I may have answered that question in your other thread.
Another question for Zandor.........
Yes you did. You even answered the next one too. I was wondering if i even needed coco with grow rocks or if i could just run water all day. I learn something knew every day. HAPPY GROWIN!!!!!!!!1 :D :D :D
