yeah n dont ever!! top right after the first set of sun leaves(round ones),i dont think anything would grow then (would it?) ,when you top you dont get 2 branches that come out of the stem you piched it lets the secondary growth shoots from the next 2 nodes below it become the top of the plant ,somtimes you end up with 4 tops or more depending how the growth shoots are growing.
hope that helps i know at first i thought the branch you clipped grew 2 from it

Topping or pinching result in the same. You have removed the MAIN KOLA from the plant. It is now gone forever.
It does not magiacally grow into a two headed top.
After you pinch or top, the same thing, you have no more main kola.

What you do, is force the plant to take the two highest secondary growth spots, and force them to act as the main kolas for the plant.
So you are essentially removing the genetic top, and forcing the plant to focus growth on secondary grow spots.
The main cola contains the antioxidants that control the growth cycles of the plant. By removing the antioxidants the plant will grow out more then grow up. (The vegetation cycle is extended by 2 weeks or more). Crushing the stock will stress the plant; it will also keep the plant short. The stress forces the plant to put its energy into repairing the damage and not growing up (same idea) again it will slow the vegetation cycle and the plant will grow out more then up. Stress plants can produce more resin, but there is a very fine line to walk if you try stress techniques.
Caution is the word for the day.
