What dirt did you use? Even people that plant tomatoes have to till the soil. It's like loosening it up. But for cannabis you need pearlite to add to the dirt the dirt should be light and airy. That way the roots will be able to spread out and it'll make your plant strong as hell. The stronger your roots are the stronger and bigger the stalk will be.

I just gave him the answer... If the issue isn't the three items I mentioned then it's just down to very poor seeds.
No matter what anybody says dude soil IS important. I used to try to grow in little cups with no drainage and just use ground dirt and always had skinny stalks that fell over like you described . No matter what lights I used, even in this grow I'm doing now I just used regular cheap bag dirt with no pearlite and had weak stalks. I left these plants in cups for like 2 months and they barely grew, when I moved them the roots were just coming through the dirt.
I've grown in in heavy pearlite and good soil and had them get root bound in two weeks in the same cups. With HUGE stalks. I KNOW dirt can be a problem, the other things contribute too. You need good lights AND good soil. I've tried and failed enough and researched enough to know that much.

Obviously I have not done as much trying and failing as you have Jiggsaw. I clearly haven't done my homework and have been looking at growing weed in all the wrong ways. Forget what I said thedankplatypus, ignore my post, my suggestions are clearly unfounded in comparison to others here. Soil must be the key factor here. I have just learned something new, bad soil makes a plant grow tall and thin... I didn't know that... imagine...

it can be a combination of anything, you wont know the answer for sure. just take everyones advice and try to see which ones work and which ones make more sense to you. pics of ur set up and plants would be nice.

If I was growing outdoors in direct sunlight and my plants weren't getting fried by the sun. I would just assume it was dirt , I mean in an outdoor grow the guy can't run extension cords outside and run leds in sunlight LOL. The sunlight can't really be too weak unless it's winter time where you live. Sunlight is the best light for plants, I know people have problems growing tomatoes in some dirt and they use cages and stakes to keep them up.
