Texas,
Sometimes, a plant will show preflowers. Sometimes they will not. They aren't 'supposed' to, in other words, it is more rare than it is common.
By looking at the first set of pics, I would doubt these are going to preflower.
Like Zandor said, just give it some more time. It usually takes 7-14 days to bring the sex out...assuming they are in total darkness for 12 hours.
Happy gROWing.
You just don't know how good it is to have others who don't mind answering stupid questions from us newbies. I had always been taught that there are no stupid questions, and besides, everyone had to start somewhere, and is always better to learn from the wiser sect.....ya know ?! Anyway, will flowering these plants for a couple of weeks to check "sex", going to hurt them (much) knowing that the final intent is to use as "Bonsai Mums" ? If not.....then let the games begin !!!!!
texas:
i am now on my third grow in three years -- i always consider myself a newbie as i can always learn (especially from pics like these). at this point in my "grow three," i'm just letting these plants grow and checking them every couple of days. i've realized that by fretting over my plants every single day, it seemed like an eternity before they matured and flowered. that said, you'll be learning a lot with your attitute. my first impression was you have a week or two to wait before the plants let you know what they are. get a 30X magnifying glass -- it'll help a lot. i picked one up on ebay for three bucks. good luck and keep us posted on those pics.
Dude its so easy to tell if they are male or female. Males dont look like females at all in that they dont produce buds. I dont understand why this is so difficult for people to figure out.
Well its not tuff to figure out. People just like knowing they are growing females and are i think too anxious to find out. I know I am.
Kinda like first time parents I guess.
Sexing them early doesnt hurt the plant, as you can always return to veg cycle.
Happy growing!
What?! Return the plant to 18/6 AFTER you've gone to 12/12? Are you NUTS? Unless you actually WANT male flowers, i wouldn't suggest this.
Don't forget that your plant will grow 30-40 % AFTER you put it into flowering.
But whatever you do, don't go back to veg after you've gone into flowering..
Quitre contrare BobBong,
I have spoken with many growers who use this method who veg 8-12 weeks.
Just as if you were to be in flower stage, and light interupted the sacred 12/12 cycle, that doesn't guarantee anything about sex. At worst, it will delay the flower cycle by 2 weeks.
THus, placing yor veg into flower cycle, for 2 weeks, should let you determine the sex. If male, into the trash.
If female, back in to vegging for another 3-4 weeks for extra growth. I have never heard of this inducing male species, since by the 4th week, the sex has been already determinded.
If this induced males, any interuption in flower cycle would induce males also.
Perhaps not on this board is it a common practice, however, it is common to sex the plant prior to full flower stage elsewhere.
Of course if this concerns you, you could always root a clone, then sex it and find out that way.
Happy growing!
I'm not going to argue this point because i've read in books written by guru's of growing the exact opposite of what you're saying harddon
Well lets just fire up a few bongs bob and ponder upon it shall we?
I'll go first.
Thanks friend!
