If the bottom growth doesnt get enough light, it will grow little popcorn buds that are a pain to trim/waste of time. It might stress the plant a little(once you get a few grows under your belt, youll understand that these plants can really take a beating before they dont like it) but it increases yield. Instead of using water, nutrients, and energy to keep the bottom branches alive, youll send that energy to the top growth. You can stress a plant as much as you want during vegetative growth without any ill effects other than slow growth.
Its makes for a more managable canopy too.......
here is a couple of pictures using this method. I chopped all the bottom shit off. I guess these are the results of stressing plants.....:thumbsup:Attachment 281511Attachment 281512Attachment 281513Attachment 281514
Here's some pics of the tiny root shoots coming from the clippings I took from my dwc bucket....
looking great, cant believe how thick and healthy those roots look.... if you ever come to europe i could use someone like you:thumbsup:
anyway tried to clone first time yesterday just to see how hard it is,but using soil.
any special tips??
you are a very acompliced grower, you put in alot of time, and you deserve that they all grow lots of bud....

Oh stop it! Ur making me blush ;) this is my first time cloning in rockwool cubes so it was a small adventure, plus I used gel instead of powder hormones for rooting.
I have only cloned a total of three times, twice in dirt and tgis one in rockwool.
So far I am undecided as to which one I prefer....
Idk only advice I can think of is to keep em warm and moist. I clipped the tips of most of the bigger fan leaves because they were yellowing and i wanted more focus on the root production than trying to recover the leaves. Idk if it was o good idea, but I got killer roots on almost every single one, I'm still waiting to see if the smaller ones get little rootshoots too. I didn't expect them all to make it anyways because some were kinda scraggly looking..
I am flattered really, but I don't even have alot of experiance under my belt yet so im still learning :)
I like to say I'm passionate about it Hahaha!
It's like meditation for me so I do spend a lot of time bullshittin in my garden ;)
hey...... quick reply.
your using gel?? i got the powder!! ah well, ill give it a go.
do you peel back the" skin" on the last bit of branch before dipping in gel??
dont blush compliments come only when deserved.
oh how long before you notice root grow??
bigguy
Well yes indeed I did scrape the skin off the tiny last bit of stem.
I also put a slit into the bottom about 1/16 of an inch long (tiny) starting at the tip of ur 45degree cut and going up the stem a tiny ways. That's when I scrape the small layer of skin and quickly dip and stick. Haha
I am careful not to tip the clippings upside down as not to get air bubbles up in the stem, which can cause issues later. I normally prefer powder to the gel so I think its personal preferance. I did observe quicker root development when i used dirt with the powdered hormones, but that was a diff strain as well so idk. Im sure youll do fine, I did my first cloning attempt and did ok, some didn't survive the transplant though. Also I wasnt as carefull as not to tip them upside down like i did this go around. I cut the clippings off, letting them chill all on the floor and what not. I did a lot too though, about fourty eight (that's all I'm allowed ;) )
So i don't remember the exact ratio of ones that survived or didn't, but I can tell u that they all had sprouted roots.
I think I'm hinting that my personl preferance for cloning is dirt... ;)
I just love the progress of my dwc plant so I did some in rockwool and will be doing three dwc buckets instead of one. (But that's a whole nother grow log ill be starting in the near future. ) woot woot!
What strain r u cloning?
Oh yeah, took about 13-15 days for me to notice the tiny rootshoots from these rockwool cube clones. Id estimate about the same if not a cpl days sooner for the dirt, but idk really...
i didnt know about not tipping them upside down. ty
its skunk haze very bushy.
