DAY 36 OF FLOWER
Hello cheezy,
Your plants look good and I hope you have a happy harvest.
For you and others here;
1) Doing a period of darkness prior to harvest is either a myth or misunderstanding that keeps being circulated by uneducated people. There is NOTHING to be gained by placing the plant in the dark, for 24, 36, 48, 72 or how many hours.
If anyone has a scientific explaination why this would help, please share it with me and the rest of the class.
2) Doing a period of darkness after veg, going towards flowering WILL help the plant achieve flowering quicker. There are three phases of flowering; induction, initiation and developement. Except for auto-flowering plants, whether a plant veggates or flowers is controlled by photoperiodism, the lenght of time the plant sees light. Actually it's the amount of darkness that controls the plant. Everytime the plant is in darkness certian chemicals and hormones (floragen) are produced and when the plant sees light these chems and floragen decrease. When the amount of dark time is long enough for the plant to produce enough chems and floragen to go into induction, we have the beginning of flowering, induction.
After being appropriately induced to flower, flowers are initiated from vegative meristems that change into flowering meristems. The meristems differentiate into the flower parts.
The extended dark period before flowering will hasten the induction process, anywhere from a few days to a week depending on strain.
