I dont know the correct answer to that but my opinion is at least 2-3 nodes on the branch you want to clone from. My thinking is any smaller than that and your talking a might small clone.

when cloning, i've read from reputable sources to wait until there are at least 5 nodes on the main stem. but it depends on how many/often you want to clone. if you cut clones very early, you'll have to wait longer to cut more. if you're a little patient at first, you can expect to get 12+ clones a week from an 18 inch plant. if you cut early, you'll be nabbing 1 clone a week lol. your call. just make sure the clones you intend to cut are not TOO RIGID or TOO SOFT. if they are too rigid (i.e. hard) they will have a harder time producing roots. if they are too soft and fleshy, they will likely be too thin (i.e. less surface area for roots to develop) and will be open to damage as well. look for something in between.
wow, i was already intimidated about this cloning thing. Trail and error, the best way to learn i guess. ill give this a couple weeks and give an update be for i clone it see what u guys think thanx
well i thought id give an update. tiny i took ur advice and i got four more sprouted and these will go in dwc 5 gallon when there ready. theyre kinda hard to see in the pics. and this other plant is 5 and a half weeks old from seed. I didnt use the cfls to start these other ones i just put them about 3 feet away from the 400 mh all r on a 24 hour schedule
well another update, Since last post my mystery indica is exploding at 7 weeks and i got 5 afghan hybrid from north cali, and the two blocks together are grapefruit just starting. Im gonna get a diesel clone next week. anybody ever smoked straight diesel out there ive had the sour and the nyc but never just diesel...O im thinking about flowering the indy think its old enough now?
I wouldn't get to carried away with cuttings, you don't need to waste your time taking male clones wait till it has at least 6-8 sets of branches then induce flower at first sign of female flowers at the limb junction(early sign) make as many cuts as you need. some plants will be showing early signs at 6-10 nodes without cutting the light (lucky)
Daddy
well i just got my rooms divided i was thinking of taking 4 clones and throwing the plant into the other room on 12/12. I hear that if u take the clones when the plant is flowering it stresses them to much ..true? this plant already smells great do males smell like that?
Cloning in flower can cause stress, not to mention it can be very difficult to get it to root because of the stems turning woody due to flowering.
Yes males can smell great too.
