I use ad aware. works pretty good
http://www.techsupportalert.com/best..._utilities.htm enough said. micro$ofts website also has an online malware scanner/remover that is updated monthly. I couldn't get the online version to work with my IE (probably beacause of my security settings inside IE :p) but there is also an option to download it and run it manually. p.s. If you are using XP and keep up to date on security updates you should have already downloaded the malware protector and it should have already scanned your computer last time you updated, but it never hurts to do it twice.
I TOTALLY FORGOT!!! , Use mozilla (firefox) for your browsing too ;), locks out even more baddies. Totally forgot about that man , I guess ive been using it so long I forget I even use it lol.
As far as firewalls go Sygate and PeerGuardian together work well.
Here's everything you'll need. (keep in mind you can just google these names)
Pay Programs: - Norton AntiVirus (only good for basic common viruses though)
- Webroot Spysweeper
Free Programs: - www.trendmicro.com (anti-virus/spyware/trojan, with their
free online scan)
- Ewido (anti-virus)
- www.free-av.com (anti-virus)
- AVG (anti-virus)
- TDS-3 (anti-Trojan, 30 day trial)
- Hijack this (for advanced and knowledgeable users only)
- Adaware SE (for adware. make sure you get the version
that says SE, stands for Special Edition)
- Winpatrol (Lists all running programs on you computer with
full details, and you can remove anything with it)
keep in mind paid programs are not necessarily better. Norton is quite inferior IMO for any virus of decent design. Also, no one program will give you full protection.
ad aware and spybot will do and don't use Internet Explorer use something like firefox or opera will help a lot!

I would never trust any antispyware applications from Microsoft, they don't give a fuck about your privacy.
