hi bonker7 and thanks. right down to buisness :)im germinating my seeds the paper towel way and id just (atm) like to know what i shud do with them once theve cracked. i have rockwool cubes soaked but shud i put them under my hps 400watt lite and in a propagator or just the propagator in the shade. its a heated 1. if i do use the light, how far away shud i have it and how do i go about covering the rockwool to stop algae, and still not impead the plant from growing. thanks again m8 :)
cool,what i dont knew or tryed i wont guess,once seeds sprote and u see a littel white root.CAREFULLY pick up and make a hole in ur rock wool block with tooth pick quater of a inch.soak ur blocks the nite berore water ph6 ec 0.2 if ur water has a ec berfore adding nutes dont add any at this stage.sqezz the blocks a litel before u pop seed in so not to water log them.dont switch ur popergster on cause ur house dont need it ,put lid on close air fents. keep 400hps 32 inches away after 1-2 days u will see baby leavf remove lid straight away and drop light 18 inches .watch them grow,as soon as roots are comming out small block ,put in to big block pop on to u nft tank,and smile,always uder feed or water its easyer to add,put a pice of string on ur light and move up when needed that way u know ur are 18 inches safe zone. now once ur plants are in get some black refusse bags and just put them around the base of the plants and cover ur lid -top aswell this stops alge,its the white lids that do it ,when u bye a nft set up u must ask 4 a blak lid.
thanks bonker7, my set up is in the shed at the bottom of my garden atm so ive switched the propagator on, ive got the light at about 40 inches away bcus when i lower it the temp rises above 90 inside the propagator. shud i just turn the under heating of and check temps at 36inch. atm i have the temps at 85f. i have a grey card to fit over the top i was just worried before its plcaed in the system but i gather that doesnt matter. im gonna look into buying one of these ecolite propagator lights for sale. as yet i dont have ph pen but 1 is ordered and shud arrive sometime this week. ive just got a liquid test. ive ordered most things and in a few weeks shud have the full kit. my room isnt the biggest neither, only 4ftx4ftx8ft. ive already soaked the rockwool in ph 5.5, at a guess judging by the chart (it only goes to 6!) ive put 1seed in compost made for lime hating plants, will this be ok to grow in? my ol man had it for growing orchids or sumin or other. thanks for the hep
cool in ur case because ur in the shed ,move the light 3 feet away and turn on the propergater cause at this stage of life roots are more in portant,thye dont need mutch light yet but will gane nice roots if propergater is on as soon as u see them stech lower the lite back to 18in cause by then the can handel it .go to ur pet shop and by two fish tank lights 2feet long 20w for promoting growth they are cheep and u can just put them staight on top of the prpergater they dont burn nothing,soil is cool just dont over water make sure u have good dranged.
cheers bonker7, i recieved my ro machine today and my ph pen and after checking the ph it was 7.3 on water and im not to sure about the soaking of rockwool bcus i had none of the water left. anyways ive mixed some water at 6.6-6.7 for the soil and 6.1 for the rockwool if it drys out. im also soaking 5 cubes in 5.5 now. ive also just started using my fridges filtered water until i set up the ro machine as that wont be for awhile as it looks rather complicated. i picked up from work today a fluroescent light. it has 2 bulbs at 2x 15 watt, does that sound like the sort of light i cud use. its made to plug in as 110v and for the building trade. does it sound about right at a guess?. i cud take some photos of it if u like. thanks again :)
edit: oh yeah, ive also filled up 2 pots with the soil from a tomato grow bag which my ol man had lieing around. ive heard this is good and the drainage from it is ace. i guess the seeds ive planted atm wont even break the surface as the ph in the soil and water was seriously messed up before planting. lol
bonker theve just shown thru. the 1 in the soil is just 2 big leaves and 2 tiny leaves, but the stalk is in the dirt. the rockwool 1 has sprouted out about half inch and hasnt even opened up properly yet!. ive removed the lid on the propagator and have lowered the light to 32 inches bcus any lower and the temp gets to high. im realy suprised with the rockwool seed. ill take some pics tomoro :) thanks
just lowered to 16inches, gonna leave like that for the nite and see how they go. i hope this is ok?

lol you were right, one of my seedlings has a yellow mark around the edge. its the 1 in the soil. i guess its just burning so ive raised to 18-19 inches like you said lol. the 1 in the rockwool is growing well but 1 of the big leaves is pointing up and the other is pointing down, ha. is this a prob? ill sort some pics tnite but my camera isnt gd and for some reason wont take any coloured picture under my hps except for yellow 1`s.
