Or on the plane.:)
I usually carry an un-opened bottle of water for just such occasions.
Kids cry for a lot of reasons. And a lot of those reasons don't set them off unless they are dehydrated.
Think about it.They are small, they dry out fast.
It's the most common cause of tantrums.
I smiled, introduced myself, asked what she had already tried.
" Everything!" said she, "I'm at my witt's end. She's usually so happy, I don't know what's wrong."
I listed the early symptoms of dehydration and offered water.
She actually had some in her carry-on, but was too frazzled to think straight.
What with all the "stink-eye" she was gettin'.
So, we three had a "drink" and a chat.:)
Toddler went all smilie in about 15 minutes, so did the rest of the plane.
Li'l sweetie laughed and gurgled for the rest of the flight.
And I made a friend for life.
A friendly smile and a reasonable approach saved a whole planeload of folks from wasting chunks of their lifes with angry thoughts and dirty looks.
Took a lot less energy than woofin' and slappin'. (I'm bone lazy)
'course you could just get told to piss-off, but, nothing ventured...
I can't see where slapping a child is gonna cheer it up much.
Sound's like that crabby old bastard was about a quart low, too.
Now he's a felon. :(
AloHa Alo -to give. Ha - the breath of life.

A pinch of empathy, a dash of love, some rational self interest.
