Your typical drug lab probably dosent have professional equiptment and doctors synthesizing the drugs.
No battery acid is not involved in extracting alkaloids from seeds. A car battery is just a impure source of a chemical reagent necessary to carry out a long sequence of reactions. You would need all kinds of reagents to make LSD. So you would have not only to synthesize the LSD itself but also every other necessary reagent involved in the multistep synthesis.
Here are some of the reagents necessary to carry out an LSD synthesis.
SOCl2
ALCl3
Br2
NaOH
H3O+ (and acid, probably strong like sulfuric)
NaCN (cyanide)
Where are you going to get these reagents?
Not only that at each step in the synthesis you will build up more impurites unless you recrystallize at each step.
and at each step you yield will get smaller and smaller.
plus you need proper solvents and vessles to carry out your reactions at each step. Methanol for instance which causes blindness. There tons of unsafe chemicals necessary.
So only a master could do it. The purer the reagents, solvents, and starting materials the purer the product.
I'm thinking that most drugs are going to loaded with impurites for that reason. Battery acid, lead and all other kinds of poisons were found during prohibition in illegal hootch smuggled from canada. PCP is usually loaded with impurites. Not only that you got old Russian weapons being sold on the black market to Terrorists. We got all kinds of biochemical agents being developed for weapons. Thats the last thing we need is some rapper babbling about his dick.

I think Using a NH2CH2MgCl gringard reagent on 3,4,5-trimethoxybenzaldehyde would work much better theoretically though.
