when i started smoking i had the same problem. many people had tried to teach me, but i seemed doomed to using bowls for the rest of my life. after several years of being completely incapable of rolling a joint, i sat down on a friday night with several packs of papers and a quarter pound of cheap columbian and just started rolling. i'd roll a joint and smoke it, roll a joint and smoke it, roll a joint and smoke it. even though my pitiful attempts would usually start to disintegrate after a few hits, i forced myself to keep on with my seemingly endless task.
by saturday afternoon my technique had markedly improved and, being stoned out of my gourd, i hardly even noticed the cramped fingers and burned nose hairs. people were coming and going through the apartment all weekend and by saturday night i noticed that fewer and fewer of them were bitching about my shoddy rolling abilities, by sunday morning there were even a few folks complimenting me and about mid-day, exhausted and so high i could barely lift the munchies to my mouth, i finally managed to roll the perfect joint.
no matter how many times you see something done, it takes practice to become proficient at any craft and rolling is no exception. i hardly noticed the party that waxed and waned around me over the course of that weekend, i concentrated on little more than rolling and smoking for most of that forty eight hours. when i was finally done, i was left with a huge pile of stems and seeds and the ability to roll a joint no matter how lousy the weed or how stoned i may be.

I've been trying to roll good looking joint since 1967...haven't done it yet.
Women usually roll nice J's...the best one I ever saw; was done by a Cajun Queen in New Orleans...:pimp:

They used to sell a mini rolling helper in head shops, and I had one many years ago. I have no clue as to what it was called. It was not a machine, but it had slats of wood attached to each other with string, or cloth, and you would put the almost-finished joint in it to smooth it out. You sort-of wrapped it around the joint and rolled it with your fingers. It resembled a miniature rug, for lack of a better description. Does anybody remember this thing? Wonder what ever happened to them, or if they still make them.

Answering my own post, lol. They're called a "Rolling Mat", and apparently are still being made - but the ones I saw online look bigger than what I remember. Doesn't matter, same idea. They all seem to be made of bamboo.

I vaporize only these days for the 9424678654223340008532122337291003420 benefits over smoking.
However, once every so often on special occasions I'll bust out my rusty joint rolling skills. I can still roll a fattie in about 1min 30 sec including grind, roll, spark. Fun to bust out a 5 gallon gravity bong or triple diffuser bong I still have every once in a blue moon :hippy::jointsmile:

The true "perfect" joint should be backrolled.
I will post a video within the next 24 hours. :D

Good video but I prefer no tobacco. I used to smoke cigs many years ago. Horrible habit.
As for the method, I would prefer a spliff. Youtube search for a Bob Marley tour guide smoking a spliff and making the funniest laugh ever lol

One of the simplest and often over looked things that new rollers fail to do is properly clean out your pot. Break up your weed with your fingers or with scissors until it is roughly the consistency of rolling tobacco. Remove all stems, seeds and anything that isn't broken up leaf. This will make both rolling and smoking more enjoyable.
I would follow the suggestion of practice, practice, practice. Try smaller tobacco rolling papers like Tops, Bugler, or OCBs and learn to roll smaller joints with a single paper. If you can master the smaller sizes going bigger won't be a problem. Too many new rollers roll small cigars with a ton of paper on them.:rastasmoke:
