This is not a town hall meeting full of supporters where you can pull that kind of crap --- it is supposed to be all undecided independents, and those are the voters that these two are fighting over at this point. They are mostly issues voters, not open to negative campaigning. At least in the debate hall, they will not take well to cheiwing and pooping, so if McCain goes that route, and Obama stays above the fray and keeps focused on the economy, Obama will do well with them.
Of course the larger audience on TV might react differently, but I still do not think McCaion's negative style he has been using lately will make a difference in his favor. It might just hurt him more.
I agree...though I wouldn't call it bloody as much as just a nasty argument hah. I think you're right, McCain is getting desperate and he doesn't have much shame in alluding away from answering in general, like Palin did. This doesn't concern many Americans though...for some strange reason, so who wins is once again in the eye of the beholder. I think he will try to just chew and poop Obama up, as you said. And he may come out looking much stronger than Obama...but at this point I think his loss in the election is an inevitability.

McCain Almost lost when he choosed Palin.
McCain Just about lost when Palin decided to open her mouth in the Couric interview
McCain LOST when Palin decided to open her mouth again against Biden and had nothing to say but "Shoutout to those 3rd graders..."
Thats my timeline in the McCain downfall.

the independent voters of tonight's town hall are in tennessee; a red state which never had a black governor, or a black judge on it's highest court, and only one black mayor in it's history
obama is walking into a trap: *SNAP*

There was no chewing up and no pooping. There was no *SNAP* trap. McCain was barely there at all. He seemed a lot more like Matlock than Maverick --- in fact Matlock was probably a bit more "spry" than McCain.
Honestly though, there were no knockouts and no flubs, and really nothing new at all from either of them. If you consider it a tie, then a tie favors the one in the lead: Obama. Most polls actually show more people think Obama "won" the debate, so that doesn't help McCain at all.
I think McCain is doomed.

Truth, this. It wasn't an AMAZING debate, but from I saw there were plenty of traps, it's just that Obama saw them clearly for what they were and neatly sidestepped them. I watched it on CNN, and they are the most balanced of all the networks. The poll they were doing during the debate showed McCain staying relatively stagnant the whole time, while Obama's was almost constantly pretty high up. The polls afterward also showed an improvement in how people view Obama by about 6 percent, I believe, while NOTHING changed for McCain, neither up nor down.
