I would kill to have two 400 watt'ers....for flowering. But, first you got to get though this tricky veg cycle. You say, "old style" 400 watt lights?...magnetic ballasts?...if so...I think, they are better, more dependable that digital ballasts. CMH bulbs work great in magnetic ballasts.
...anyways...the Uv rays from MH's are tricky...watch for leaf burn. I found it's better to "offset' plants some, under the light. Seedlings are very, very tender. And rotate plants, too. (but, not with the light on, I burned my knuckles doing that...:D)
Magnetic yup, that's dem.
I did see some burn early on, thought it was temps, but that's good to konw too about the spectrum itself, what you are saying makes me feel better about not having the lights "all over them" like I wanted to initially! That would explain some issues I had during my last run. I kept thinking to myself, "how the hell is this happening," my temps were spot on, but I had both the 400 watt lamps in a 4x4x8 tent, so there was no escape!!! Might explain why this run so far is going significantly better than the last too! Good! I love it when I accidentally do stuff that is good! As for the knuckle burning, been there, been doing that! I just accepted it as part of the process, just like bass thumb from a productive day of fishing! It is better now though, I did start rotating the dim side of the table, took me a handful of ouchs, but I am not exactly the sharpest tack in the box some times.:D
Love your album BTW! You hardly ever see anyone put anything in the pics to give a reference/perspective on size. Surely you have gone through that by now and are on to something new! I won't ask, I know your policy! Whatever you are doing, I hope it turns out just as good or better than the last batch! That looked great!:thumbsup::thumbsup: I hope I get as lucky as you did with my female to male ratio!

I am gonna go do some digging on CMH's now, thanks! Obviously you like eh? I know nothing about them. But I will read up!

I thought you would never ask...:D...http://boards.cannabis.com/indoor-li...-ballasts.html
I'm not trying to change anyone's mind...just want them to see the light.
(you have to have a 400 watt magnetic HPS ballast, or forget it)(not even a switchable magnetic ballast)

:)Obviously worth a shot! When I go to re-up on a bulb, I am gonna give it a shot!
I really like the part about less heat, even if it's just a few degrees, that's all I need!:)

One more thing: considering the heat problem...I would switch to 18/6 light cycle. I have used 24/0, 20/4, and 18/6 and they all worked fine.
18/6 would help with temps during the heat of the day. IMO.

I thought about that, and then just running them with the 6 hours off durinjg the day, but I just have a supersticious belief that 24 hours is better. I know that there really isn't any solid reason to believe this, I just find it comforting for some reason. IDKY?
That being said, temps today maxed out at 83. Not too bad, and ran down as low as 79, these are canopy temps.
The ambient room temp is usually right at about 80, which is pretty good, my a.c. for the house is at 77. I really shouldn't be bithcing too much about the temps, like you said, I am going to concentrate more on good air exchange for now.
New growth everday now it seems. Leaves are getting broader, new sets come in daily! Very pleased for now. I will update pics probably late tomorrow night, maybe tuesday.
Thanks for tuning in!:D

So,
um,
I am getting ready to water again late tonight, maybe tomorrow.
I am using RO, and am kind of wondering if I should start to supplement in some cal mag and liquid karma? Any thoughts out there? I hate to do anything right now, considering they are looking really nice, you know "if it ain't broke?"
I am using FFOF, I know that it is chalk full of goodies, the plants seem to love it, and I wasn't planning on using any of my Botanicare Pro Grow for a while yet. But I wonder if the FFOF has the micros needed? And Liqiud Karma, is supposed to be a catalyst that helps in the absorbtion of these micros, that would be the thinking of adding them both. Recommended dose is 4-5ml per gallon, I was going to start with 2ml of each per gallon. Any thoughts, suggestions, before I start dicking my plants around!:D

Well, here we are a few days later. All is well in cannaland. The plants continue to grow, leaves broaden, etc.
I watered today, I was kind of surprised that they needed to be watered, but they were nearly dry.
Watered in RO h2o @ 6.7 with 1ml/gallon of calmag, and 1ml/gallon Liquid Karma. Very very very weak, but I didn't know if I should even be using either. I have always read that with RO h2o you need to use calmag, and the LK, is just a supplement that is supposed to enhance nutrient absorbtion. So hopefully those low doses will not harm them, and they will get something positive from it.
H2O runoff tonight, dun dun dun, 6.8. I didn't water really heavy, and got a smallish amount of runoff, so I combined the runoff from AI # 4,5,and 6, to come up with an average. Hopefully this is ok. I dunno. Seems to make sense to me. Temps are doing well, maintaining at 80 to 83, I did get a spike up to 84 today, but shit, it was almost a 100 here! So I am happy with that. Don't really see any signs of heat stress, maybe there are and I am missing them. So that's where you all come in, here are some new pics.:D

Pic 1 The 3 Leaf Freak, Don't know if you can see it, but it's growing 3 Main leafs per node. Also my best developed, 6 sets, and the only one that has 5 point leafs. Also kind of weird, I mentioned this before, since it has sprouted, it has always been a totally lighter shade of green?:wtf: Seems healthy though, and continues to grow, actually is developing faster than all the others from either strain.
