McCain Speech = Big Load of Crap
I saw a few parts of the speech, i liked the get up and fight bit and where he was describing how he became a man of his country, though it was through such horrible circumstances. I felt it lacked substance and was more of a polemic. It's got me worried that the GOP will win lol.. All that USA after every sentence is contagious.

McCain has tried to adopt the Obama campaign's theme of "change" and rebrand himself as an agent of change, but it doesn't work at all.
Actually the theme of his campaign isn't change, it's "Country First".
But yeah you are right, the "Change" theme will not work, for the Dems.
I think when you hear him talk about change, he is actually pointing out that his campaign actually will come through with real "Change", not that it's the theme, it will be a result.

My two cents:
Uh McCain isn't JUST for drilling. He is for that AND he's ALSO for finding renewable energy.
But it seems like SOME PEOPLE don't realize that.

Uh... I'm not sure who SOME PEOPLE are or what you are responding to on that. I don't think drilling or alternative energy has come up in this thread yet...
Rebgirl, did you see the speech? I would imagine you liked the part where McCain admitted all the Republican failures of the past 8 years, because it is exactly the stuff you talk about all the time.
The Republicans said for DECADES, we are the party of small government, fiscal respoinsibility, and military competence. But as soon as they got control of all branches of gevernment, they increased the size of government bigger than it has ever been, they blew out the deficit hgher than it has ever been, and they bungled a war. You say Republicans have abandoned their principles, and so did McCain. You are both right.
Now McCain thinks that after admitting it, he can just say, it was THOSE OTHER Republicans, not me. You can trust me because I'm a maverick, not like THEM. I'm going back to our principles. Riiiiiiight.
It won't work. people know it was Republicans in full control of the entire Government that screwed up. They do not believe in their own principles.
I think it was big of McCain to admit how bad they screwed up though. That was definitely my favorite part of an otherwise crappy speech.

Actually Texas Grass said the thing about the drilling.
Yeah I agree that "Rhino" Republicans or Fake Republicans are the ones that have screwed our parties name. McCain is really more of a moderate Republican (at least he was before he decided to bow to the religious base and such). He's like the other Republicans in some ways but if you look at his record he has thumbed his nose at the Republicans more times than I can count.
You can't honestly blame the Republicans for all of this mess. I know your more intelligent than that. It's a two party system. The Dems are just as to blame as the Republicans.
I liked the speech because at least he admitted things are terribly awry.
But everyone on this site should know that I really liked Ron Paul to begin with and if I had my way the Republican party would start over again and return to it's Libertarian roots.

I think we CAN honestly blame the Republicans for the vast majority of the mess. It's a two party system, but Dems were completely locked out in the first 6 years of Bush's term. Almost all votes went straight down the party line, and the Republicans got exactly everything they wanted against the will of Democrats. It was a fuck up, and Republicans have to own it.

6 freaking years does not change the entire state of the nation. What about the fact that the Dems have controlled the congress for the majority of the time?
It's a checks and balances system. The Democrats did their fair share.
Both parties are corrupt and have lost their values. (At least a good percent have lost their way, not all have).

well, ignoring the politics and lack of participation by people in elections of all kinds, has led to no change at all
historically and as a nation, we have had the lowest political participation rate of all modern democracies. which is a big problem that i think has its roots in who are the nominees and who are the parties.
and we have perhaps kept chosing the less of 2 evils in most elections
so whats next, whats the solution, How we the people can change this locked game?
if we find the answer to this WE THE PEOPLE will win
otherwise we are bound to let either party or candidate win despite that almost nobody who votes for either one can agree with all of their policies
question is, what should be done so in the next election we have the right candidates?
i know many people have quitted voting for long now, just cuz no1 seems to find the answer to this question
and ralf nader only cuts the votes of both sides, screw him!:D he never wins but he messes up the equation!

Yes, the state of the nation changed that fast. And what do you mean "the Dems have controlled the congress for the majority of the time?" The majority of what time? When Bush took office, Republicans controlled both houses of Congress and had controlled them since 1994. Once they had the White House too, the shitstorm began. They lost control of Congress 2 years ago, after 6 years of failure. Now they are going to lose the white house too.
