It's best to get a certified letter and medical records from your doctors stating that you are disabled and so on. Doctors can be very helpful in helping you obtain SSI benefits, especially if they have numerous other patients who are disabled.
It does take a long time to get SSI. It took my mom a long while.
Attorneys don't do anything magical or political when they "help" you get your SSI. Get your paperwork from your doctors(certified documents) and go to your local Social Security office. They're there to help you.
Tell them only what you have legal prescriptions for.
Have you actually gone through this process? I have for my handicapped brother and let me tell you, even if you get your paperwork straight yourself and get the signatures.. the government will still give you the run around. What a lawyer will do is make it so they can not blow you off so easily.
Maybe you have gone through this and were fortunate enough to be able to handle it on you're own but it's a bit arrogant to assume that an SSI Lawyer is useless. I know first hand that it's actually contrary to what you say.
We did all of our work, we filed all our paperwork, we got all our signatures and still fought the system for years until we finally hired our own attorney.
Say what you want, but if I had to do it all over again I would contact a Lawyer and have them do it for me from the beginning.

I'm about 8 months into the process of filing for SSDI. They don't get told nothing about any cannabis use. So far my case has been going ok. Just slow but I knew it might take 2 years so I was prepared. Done everything myself so far but if my first application is turned down I'll get an SSI attorney.

It took 2-3years. That's why I say work up the SS ladder, or I said latter but meant ladder.
You'll find someone without their thumb stuck up their ass or too busy to even acknowledge you.

Have you been prescribed oxycotin or ms cotin?
My mom is on one of those and says it still doesn't touch her sciatic nerve pain but it helps her from wanting to "rip someone's head off".
She also went to a bunch of different specialists who all but one said she'd be dead in 9months. They all wrote letters for her stating her disability. "Is disabled with no chance of recovery" . Something to that effect. I've known people who are not permanently disabled but still obtained SSI. They recover, go back to work, and get off SSI.
Once you get SSI you'll have to worry about someone reporting you for not actually being disabled(at least that's what they'll tell SS) then you have to get new paperwork from your doctors stating the same old crap. I think, or you resend your old paperwork and get a new letter from your doctor stating you're still disabled.
I can't remember exactly.
Bottom line it's your condition that makes you disabled or not. You just need medical professionals to state such.

I used to get prescribed Oxycontin and a bunch of other meds, like vicodin and percocet.Same like how you said your mom is ,The pain is still there but at least it aint so bad you wanna rip someones headoff, lol
I got 2 bones fusing together and torn discs, worn down disc and I cant stand or sit for extended periods.I cant driver for more than half an hour, stuff like that.If I could work I would,I dont like living on a fixed or limited income, but anything is better than nothing.

:( You'll get SSI with no problem other than it taking what seems like forever.
If you don't have copies of ALL of your medical records, you'll want to start obtaining them.
Ok since I can't remember anything, wonder why... :p My mom says it took her 9 months after she sent off the paperwork that she recieved SSI and "back pay".

Just a couple words of advice :). A family member is on SSI and also on a disability insurance from his work. They prescribe him 80mg oxy and 4 10mg percs daily. They test him monthly to make sure the medication is in his system. If he comes up with a hot urine(pot), he would lose his pain meds and disability insurance. SSI however you should not have ANY problems. Isint it BS that the docs will prescribe all these opiates and if someone actually uses somthing that REALLY helps them they would lose everything? Ridiculous state I live in :P

I hope they dont test me,I cant stand taking those meds,FOr one,They dont work,my doctor had me increase my meds, this is no joke, they wernt working! At one point I was taking 12 Vicodin a day,4x3 a day.My stomach and kidneys would ache bad, come to find out,my chiroprqactor told me those meds are only for limited use,like......after surgery or for a week....not to be taken on a daily basis for extended times.
I feel alot better now,Thanks you guys, very comforting to know it is possible to get ssi,I was just worried that being a medical MJ patient, that would excluded me from reciving it.

I've got a family member in the same predicament. Until I educated her on the wonders of subbing with synthetic urine. They even watch her everytime.
I just got back from a phsyco analist for my SSDI. She's more nuts than I am.lol
