Would this system fit in a 3X3 grow space? Such as the hydrohut mini? I'm quite interested in building this setup possibly.
I grow this way with good results this what I did...
I bought a under bed tote box 30"Lx16"Wx7"H it was a transparent blue color it fit's about 12.5 gal. , a dark colored 18 gal. rubbermaid tote, a 3/4" and
1/2" ebb and flow drains w/ plenty of extentions and 2 screen tops, some net pots, 3/4" and 1/2" tubing...I'm using a eco-plus 185 gph pump... get a timer and some black and gloss white PLASTIC spray paint and we're ready to get building...
with the lid on the under bed box drill with a hole saw the size of the net pot your using.. GO EASY SSSSSLLLLLOOOOOWWWW I found this out the hard way CRACK...I find this system to work great for a sog grow w/ clones... for larger plants from seed place alot less plants per gro tub or go recirc. DWC
once youve drilled your holes remove the lid and flip the tub upside down to drill a hole on each end for the fill and drain lines, when your done drilling all your holes remove the burrs with sand paper... now we are ready for paint..
spray the black paint on the lid and tub do it in thin coats letting the paint dry in between, also be sure to tape off the holes in the botom of the tub so no paint gets inside of the tub... when the tub and lid are both complety black spray over the black with the gloss white paint to cover all the black, dark inside for the roots and reflective on the outside.. just be sure to let the paint dry completly before putting this into service...
I built a small table just large enough to fit the tub and tall enough to fit the reservoir directly underneath... drill the holes in the table for the tubing for the fill and drain lines...
install the fill and drain fittings to the bottom of your tub then connect the tubing. thread the tubing thru the holes in table the
1/2" tube goes to the pump in th res, the 3/4" tube is the drain for the tub which goes strait down into the res...
inside the tub connect the extentions onto the drain side as high as you want the water level and top it with the screen the fill side just gets the screen no extention... plug the pump into your timer and your redy to go..
I didn't use any air stones in the res which will change on the next grow.. I'm also thinking about putting some air stones or one of those flexible air diffusers in into the tub and set the air pump for the tub and water pump on the same timer, I dunno still expirementing... would like to do a recirc. dwc for some bigguns' still recearching and planning that build, as I tinker with this ebb n flow deisgn...
hope this was a help I know it sucks reading alot of crap but I'm a writer by nature and some times I just can't stop myself from going on and on...
later D:S5:
I looked at that system and looks pretty cool and fun to make, but how do you keep the roots from plugging up the 1/2" hole in the caps? I wouldnt think it would take long for it to become a problem. Cut the roots?Quote:
