Second Grow new Problems
again something went wrong but im not stressing this time my 1000 hps balast is bad but the guy at the grow guy is going to take a look at it and tell me whats wrong if its really bad im going to buy 2x600 watt hps o yea plus i havent flushed or covered the top to get rid of algae
also the house still smells not that stinky but still there im going to give the carbon filter another day or so to get rid of the smell if not im going to incresse the size of the filter by another foot or 2 and up the fan from 250 cfms to 450 the reason for the big jump the 250 doesnt pull enough air to cool my computer with a 1000 or 2x600 that rooms going to be hotter then hell and im going to need the 450 if not that plus the 250
i might put the 450befor the carbon and the 250 all way at the end where it mets the ducting for the rest of the house
pots still really moist and there doing alright lights in bad position so there already reaching at this rate i wont be into flowering until 15 or later so i defiantly need new buckets ill prolly use the 5 gallon seeing how they are easier to find. i have like 5 laying around so ill need 4 more
im also getting a veggin box from a friend don't know what it looks like but this will be good for the smaller guys and clones i might attempt at cloning again but its kinda a waste if i dont know the sex
i was thinking of putting them all in flowering for a week or so find the sex take out the males but i dont know with the lights i got now its pretty pathetic so ill prolly just wait.......
the waiting game
these are pics i took the other day of the same plant that got the damage dont really know what to think it doensnt look new but then again its on top and that doesnt look old.... any ideas

Second Grow new Problems
Hey hey, ho ho, hows it going. I'm not skilled at problem diagnosis, so when I get a problem I always refer to the problem charts. I posted at least three of them and I know there are many more (maybe search "problem chart"). Somewhere in this forum is even a couple step by step, flow chart-type diagnosis thingees, ie. If the problem is only on the lower leaves, go to step 6.
You say your pots are pretty wet, and you are having a problem with algae. Sounds like overwatering, or lack of ventilation. Both are a common noob mistake. (Nothing against noobs, it's impossible to become experienced without first being a newbie.) Like GL asked, what's the temp and humidity? Optimum is 82 and 60 respectively at the canopy. You should only be watering after the soil has dried out. On some of my plants this is nearly 2 weeks. Not only should you be venting your lights, but it is very important to vent the grow area as well. Not only will it help keep down mold, moss, algae, etc. but if your plants gently rustle in a breeze they will grow bigger, and be stronger so they can support the weight of the huge buds they're going to have.
What's a vegging box?
I wouldn't worry too much about purple or pink stems at this point. Though it can be an indication of a nutrient surplus/deficiency, your plants aren't looking real bad at this point and I wouldn't be real concerned. Some plants just have purple stems no matter how healthy they are.
Be sure to read up on how to vent well so you don't have to tear apart your grow 3 times like I did. Can't tell for sure from the photos, but it looks like those fluorescents could be a little closer to the plants. That's one main advantage of fluorescents and it makes a big difference if they are close.

Opie, GREAT constructive post getting the OP to find out exactly what he needs for himself instead of hand-holding. I feel that's the true measure of an instructor's skill/worth.
Good call on the pH problem, Hoho, it's definitely out of whack. Probably low and locking out (at least) calcium. What type of tester do they have at your shop?
You mention "soil" "vermiculite" and "perlight" as your medium. Care to elaborate? If you're using a good mix you'll have fewer problems in the long run. I use LC's Soilless Mix #1 and find it's just fantastic for my needs. If you're in the states, all materials should be readily available at Lowe's, Home Depot, Wal-mart, etc.
5 parts sphagnum peat or coir
3 parts perlite
2 parts EWC or compost
2 TBLS Dolomite lime per gallon of medium
(International Cannagraphic Magazine Forums - Organics for Beginners)
A few other quick things - you had to take down your plant because of thieves? That's NOT a good sign, man. If that were a possibility I'd find a new place far away from all the people you probably told about your grow. lol Sorry if that sounds harsh! Just don't want you to go to jail or hurt because of your hobby.
Lastly, your watts per square foot. While people HAVE done amazing things with less, 32 is not ideal for a beginner. Cut down your floor space and shoot for AT LEAST 50. I'd go even more as the extra light will compensate (to a point) for newbie mistakes, as far as yield goes.
Sorry for the length of this post. Take care, bud! ;)

Second Grow new Problems
yea i rather people tell me where to find things then tell me the problem then i dont forget and i can learn more i think i was being a lil lazy also
this is the new place thats y i cut the plant and my losses and got some where new thanks for the advice ill defently cut floor space 5x5 maybe less
got the balast fixed for 30 buck hope fully ill have a full post later tonight

Second Grow new Problems
No problem!
What is "stight 50 50 mix?" You need to know what your medium is to grow effectively and efficiently in soil(less).
I can completely understand doing things on the cheap, but the mix I posted (thanks to BurnOne and Lavender Cowboy!) is actually cheaper than commercial pre-mixed potting soils, especially the "organic" types. (And yes, this is an organic base-mix; add amendments and you're on your way to being a "water-only" guy.)
Let's see those pics! :)

Second Grow new Problems
wow there getting big. at first i worried about how big there getting and i wasnt sure what i was going to do. i thought about it and im thinking the best thing to do is the SCROG method because the difference in plant size the smallest is about a foot and the tallest about 2 maybe a lil less any other ideas?
got my ballast fixed for 50 not bad now im waiting on getting the inline fan hopefully i can get the 6inch one depending on my budget but im still not sure if 400cfm is too much for only a 2 foot piece 6 inch diameter full of carbon but i also want the fan to pull enough air to cool the room and give it a negative pressure to ensure no smell leak
i have enough carbon to make a 4 foot piece but i dont want to if i dont have to plus i can sell my left over? ive researched for a long time but im still kinda confused
i also searched for ever on how to thumb nail my pics instead of how i post them? cant find anything

Second Grow new Problems
i was also thinkin i could LST them i know its kinda late but so is SCROG the other idea is just take the biggest out of the flower room and turn them into clones. i have not mastered cloning well i havent even done it once successfully but im hopefull

Second Grow new Problems
I don't think it's too late for LST or SCROG. I usually don't even have a screen over mine until they go into the bud chamber. You can bend a plant around at any stage, but I wouldn't cut anything after they've gone to flower.
