As far as the article...yellow journalism is rampant in the NY Times, and not the best source for honest representations of the truth, especially in Iraq. How about the fact that the market is open in the first place?
When is the last time you heard the Times write of the infrastructure being expanded and repaired? Where are the stories about the schools that are open to all? The hospitals that care for all Iraqi's, regardless of sect? Where are the stories about the political reconcilliation going on in the Maliki government? What about the facts regarding the overall sucesses the US military training the Itraqi security forces, and the results of that training?
What do you folks think they'd do, going into the Baghdad proper. Drive around in an open-to convertable, like a Kennedy in Dallas? Of couese there was more security. Would be pretty stupid to parade our presidential hopeful, with no additional security.

What amazes me is that anyone could talk about "Insane McCain" as if he's an improvement over anything else available. They're all from the bottom of the barrel.. it's just a question of which side of the bottom of the barrel they fermented on. I guess what also amazes me is that I'm still amazed people get caught up in this shit-flinging contest.

I mean, I just saw something a few days back about how Cheney has recently invested something like $30 million of his own money into European funds that stand to profit directly from the collapse of the American economy. (brought to you in part by these two pointless, but nonetheless great for the upper class, wars) I mean, really.. how brilliant is that? If we're not smart or capable enough to see that coming and to be able to personally profit from it, then I guess we deserve what we get. Just like we deserve what we get when we play along with this Democrap vs. Repugnant dog-and-pony show, as if anything contained within is going to do us a damn bit of good. Whoever wins, we all still lose. I'm not being sarcastic in any part of this paragraph.
But hey, as long as you all are still having "fun" getting caught up in the game, why quit, right?
One more on my way to trying to get 50 posts, just so I can give a little bit of up-arrow approval to the LED threads that are why I signed up here. Which, ultimately, is the only reason I'm posting posts like these. (oh, these are my real opinions, sort of.. Rhetoric parroted from whom, exactly? I'm not a Democrap or a Repugnant. I'm not a member of any political organization aside from being registered Ind. I'm just a guy who has lost all faith in the human race. My main goal in life has been to raise just enough money to be able to buy some land way out of town in some out of the way place like New Zealand, and just live out my days growing my own food and other such needs. You want my "real" view? My real view is that I'd like to see an asteroid or GRB cull most of the population. He may not believe what you mean, but that doesn't mean it's true. Yeah it's true there are many in the media who do not report good news. Heard of the saying 95% of news is bad news? It sells. But that doesn't mean events like this weren't true. That's what politicians do, they stretch the truth, little harm, little foul.
Everyone accuses of media of having some bias and for some part, it's true. Objectivity is slowly being lost.
