Are you being facetious?
How about this: YOur a civil engineer working on implementing a new traffic light system for a city. In order to find the appropriet timing of the traffic lights your going to have to take the acceleration function of the flow of traffic (which would be a derivative of the function of the speed of traffic, which is in turn a derivative of the position of a given vehical) Therefore your working with a second derivative equation when finding the proper light timing.
There are many many more, but thats just the very first thing that came to mind. Calculus was actually developed in order to more accurately describe motion than algebra is capable of.
Really I could get into this hardcore, but I think I may go over your head real quick if you don't have any calc background...

BTW, I'm working towards a degree in Mechanical Engineering, so there is a very good chance I will be using calc in my career.
BTW, why the hell do you need an example? Calc is fun! ...sometimes...

haha i cant lose weed either lol i try but i always know its there in the back of my mind, lol make someone else hide it for you

lol...no, I was being serious :D
What's wrong with placing a guy at each set of lights, and using split timing...or summat...
Hey..people don't pay attention to traffic lights anyway!
At least, not in my vast experience of such things lol
Ok, but surely, once the calculation has been made (ie, in junction A) then it's just a case of reusing the same said equation in the next set of lights...especially as most road construction is copied from one site to another.
Judging by some of the traffic light sequences that I have encountered, some of these people need a refresher course in calculus! Sheesh!
And far be it from me to try to devalue the value of mathematics :D
I have long been a champion of the cause...ask anyone here
El guardia de mathematics, that I am :D
Binary, you see, is the key...mark my words, folks...the answers won't be found until people realise that binary holds all the answers!
*doctors enter stage left*
No, you won't silence me!
*they reveal the 'vest'*
No....I will be heard....binary is the key!!...
*doctors close in*
BINARY!!....BINARY!!!...BINARY!!!!!!!!

I have a real problem with this drug testing crap.
Surely it's an infringment upon civil liberties?
It's this whole 'presumptive contingency' shit that is responsible for all the world's problems...
I don't know the correct terminology, but it works on this principle:
Just because it might not happen, doesn't mean it won't happen, because it's possible that it might happen.
Or summat like that..
Like the whole 'terrorism threat'.
It turns probability on it's head...and makes it a reality
If we adopt that theology to everything in our lives, we wouldn't leave the fricking house!
Because, who knows, the sun might explode today...I mean, we know it will anyway, who's to say it won't happen today?...and even if the sun doesn't explode, who's to say that I wouldn't get run over by a bus?...
What if the driver coming towards me decides to have a head on collision with me?
It is within his power to do so.
What am I to do?
What the fuck am I talking about?

I honestly don't know bruv... but i'm takin notes :p lol... i'm gonna put some of these big words into my lyrics.... ..... once i work out what they mean :S lol

As far as the traffic lights, yes if all distances are equal it would be only one calculation, but around here we have a lot of lights, and some very strange intersection configurations... Ever heard of a Michigan Left?
I absolutely agree drug testing is wrong in absolutely every way. How the fuck is it their business what I do on my own time? But the present state of mind in the U.S. reminds me more of George Orwell and 1984 of am America...
Damn phone, where was I? Fuck, I dunno....

Just re-read your last post there Resinate... At first glance it seems to make perfect sense, and I find my self in agreement!
grrrrr.....clean up today
lol..do you mean "Just re-read..." as in, I should, or you did?
And which bit do you agree with? - the 'presumptive contigency', or the 'what the fuck am I talking about' bit?
lmfaoo
lol

PS - good luck with the interview, dude :)
