yeah it happened to a friend of mine when he was young. now whenever he get really fucked up all he talks about is wanting to get back at the guy and i have to talk him out of it. its pretty scarry
Yeah, they were in on it together. The guy who was the so-called manager's fiancee and the guy on the phone who was monitoring through the camera. They've aired this story on ABC News "PrimeTime Live" twice. The poor kid was at a weight disadvantage, and she was vulnerable because even if she had escaped she'd have had to run naked through the restaurant. As it turns out, those guys who conspired to pull off that scam had done it in other restaurants, too.
Her parents have filed a plaintiff's action against McDonald's that may have even settled by now. What they needed to do--and y'all remember this with your kids or future kids--is to teach them not to blindly obey any adult under any circumstances but to use their own judgment about what feels right and what doesn't. It's that blind deference to adults no matter what that gets kids, even bigger ones like teenagers, in trouble with pedophiles and other predators.
Terrible people receive terrible punishment. Karma, she's a cruel mistress.
im curious to find the results of the story, anyone happen to know the link to the abc story?
When I last saw it aired on ABC News a year or so ago (it was a re-run then), that case was making its wat through the legal system. I'm be curious to know what happened, too, and whether there was any successful criminal prosecution. I expect we won't ever know what amount McDonald's settled for legally if they have indeed settled with the girl and her parents by now; those settlement terms are always confidential.
hmm interesting and disturbing... this article provides insight that this was not an isolated event but a string of many simmilar crimes, of an officer calling restaraunts and setting up the hoax... perhaps they were not in on it, but just too dumb to realize what's going on. The psychology behind the event brings to mind the obedience experiments of Stanley Milgram and The Stanford Prison experiment... interesting article... have a look
A hoax most cruel
they werent in on it, the caller was runnin a test on a theory, i dont remember the name, it says that people will do things that may seem immoral if instructed by people of high social status, the caller said he was a police man, he had done it in other McDonalds. it is pretty stupid but they also just do this test way back but it was different, a person was asked to administer an electro shock to another person who they couldnt see, just look it up.
yeah... that's the Stanley Milgram test, it's a very famous psychology case study
There seems to be a lot of discussion as to whether or not the guy was "in on it". Somehow I think you didn't all watch the whole video, he made her give him a blowjob! He's a god damn pervert and a rapist and needs to go away for a long time.
I'm equally disgusted by that female restaurant manager too. She was such a bitch, refusing to take any responsility, outright denying that the girl was begging her for help. It's painfully obvious she was lying about her ignorance of the situation, she needs to go away for just as long as the guy who raped her, and the caller.
As to the orinal poster's question; no, Americans are not that crazy. Humans are that crazy! The world's atrocities will never fail to surprise you. After all, look at how bad gang violence is getting in your homeland of Britian. I see people from every corner of the Earth comitting acts that baffle me as to how one human can do that to another and not feel remorse.
btw, at the end they were about to reveal who the caller was, saying "...astonishingly we found out it was..." then the video ends. Anybody know what they were going to say?
