I think the spacing was caused by excessive heat cause my lights are less then 2 feet above the canopy, and 1 month ago my indoor temps were @ a little over 90 degrees + I just found out that Ive been underfeeding my plants, which I corrected a couple of hrs ago!. I also rearanged my room. heres a shot!
try to position hps bulb across the plant row rathre than along, your first pics showing proper position of shaders. At the moment most of your light is used to iluminate walls and the path way. What is the wattage of your lights with reflectors and how many plants are under these lights.
