It helps the plant maximize its genetic potential towards purpleness.
And it is totally safe to treat plants that are going to be smoked with that stuff. It's mostly kelp extract as far as I understand.

if i decide to go natural with the color what temps do i use and through what period veg or flowering
I know that colder temps promote purple to show up but other than that Im a lost as you.
Do I use colder temps during flowering or veg stage? How cold?
i would say a couple cold nights right before harvest (50-60ish) im guessing.
I would be scared to go under 60 deg.
look if you want a purple bud get a strain that KNOWN for that trait i don't think (my own personal opinion) that cold temp are Going to turn it purple... my understanding of the product (witch local hydro store owner told me) is that it HELP purple strain turn purple....not saying am not interested to see how it turns out..just trying to ensure that if it dont works you arent upset
