Thanks for stopping by Al B. hope to see you around often, after all im using a technique that i learned from you. Hopefully i can get your help to have this thing going right! How many mothers do you think it would take to keep my trays full if im only going to have maybe 12 clones per tray?
Also im thinking of having it setup for 2 different strains so i'll probably have 4 small trays for my papaya then i'll have four different trays for my AK-47 or C99. My trays arent the size of yours so how many mothers do you think i'll need to have my grow steady like yours?
GDSSB, thanks for the nod. :) Frankly, there's not much more to it than flowering your cuttings soon as they have a good spray of roots.Quote:

I deliberately use a fairly big light for vegging my mums (400HPS) as this makes the severely pruned mums pick right back up and be ~600-800mm tall just 15 days later. I've recently trialled a MH>HPS retrofit lamp but wasn't happy with the light output and the slower recovery of the mums, so I'm back on the 400HPS.
Having several strains isn't the best thing for a SoG op because of the differing finishing height and growth rates of different strains. Were I you wanting to do multiple strains, I'd do whole trays of one strain at a time to keep the heights even.Quote:

I get about 6-10 really GOOD cuttings from mainstem stock off each mother, varies on the development of the mums. I don't use cuttings from low down on the mother, I only use mainstem cuts with the thickest stems preferred. I could get lots and lots more cuttings per mum if I used the tiny little branches from low down on the mum plants, but thicker stemmed cuttings make for better performing plants in flower or as replacement mums.
Takes a couple of passes of cuttings before the mums develop and branch out enough to start giving lots of good quality cuttings per pass. After 5-8 passes of cuttings, dependent upon the state of the mum plant, I'll retire it and replace it with one of its 'kids.'
While I appreciate your praise, I don't think I'll be popping in here to follow your grow. I stopped using this board due to high-handed admin practises and limited features (like no PMs). See you on OSA.
Yeah i can understand what you mean. I'm probably gonna start this grow log on OSA as well but i'll wait until the sprouts are actually sprouted and everything is up and going before i start the thread.
I definitely would appreciated your guidance on this one especially the cloning part. Although i have read over your grow several times i may still encounter a few problems here and there.
As of right now though i have a 400w hps that is gonna be over my mothers and im not sure if i should go with the 1000w hps over my flowering clones?! I dont think my grow room is the size of yours so i may not need 2 1000watters. I do want to be able to reach max weight with the few plants we'll have. So if it would be better i'd just spend the cash but for now i was just thinking maybe 2 400w over the trays or maybe 1 1000w over all 4 trays!
And as for the other strains, i was gonna have an entirely different set of trays for my other strain meaning that the papaya and the ak99 wont be in the same trays. Instead of 4 trays i'll have 8 small trays, 4 for the papaya and 4 for the ak99! Should work out but i know being new to this i'll have to do alot of tweaking the first time around until i learn the do's and donts of both of these strains.
There are four sprouts left out of the 10 that i germed because of some stupid things i did. Of the four left 2 are them are 6 days old and the other 2 are just a day old.
The 2 in the styrofoam cups are only a day old they both sprouted on the same day. The other 2 older ones are in some plastic bottles i cut the bottom off of because i had no paper cups to put them in at the time and they had already germed so i just used what i had available. The one in the first picture is really small for 6 days old and im wondering if i should just transfer it into a bigger pot because maybe the little cup it's in is hindering its growth. The next one is growing tall and i had to tie it onto a toothpick to stop it from toppling over. The next 2 are the new sprouts and im wondering when should i start thinkin about transferring them into bigger pots?
I had a South African Durban Poison x skunk #1 seed sprout, so this will be included in my grow and any others that emerge during the duration of this grow!
Here's a pic of the new seedling!
Ok here's an update all of my seedlings died except for one papaya. I am a total retard and i let all of the plants get damping. I'll be continuing on with only one papaya until the c99, skunk #1 and PPP arrives. The C99 is Joey Weeds as recommended by image reaper and the skunk#1 and PPP is nirvana's as recommended by stinky. We'll see how they all turn out but for right now here's a few pics of the sole surviving Papaya seedling. Does this little guy seem to be growing very slowly for 2 weeks? It could just be the fact that im used to growing hydroponically and seedlings seem to grow out of control faster that way.
The first pic is from like 3 days ago, the rest are from this morning. It seems to have grown a bit but it looks like somethings definitely wrong from the yellowing! Can anyone identify the problem?
Hey, I'm real far from being an expert, but I started some papaya seeds a little over two weeks ago, and I had a few of mine do o the same thing. I was using "Country Cottage Seed Starter" for soil (basically a whole lot of peat moss, vermiculite, and a touch of lime for Ph balance). Now I'm going to tell you what worked for me, but only because nobody is answering you, and its been 2 days -- I am only advising as a last resort b/c your plants look to be in dire straights! I used a mixture of about 1/10 urine and 9/10 water. My plants seemed to perk back up.
Now go lightly; my plants did fine, but I understand you can really F*#$ stuff up overdoing that urine!
Oh.... 3 days ago.. sorry! just saw pictures and thought
