The only thing we really have to work on is bringing weed out of the "sub-culture" it has been in for so long and bring it mainstream. Because as long as its part of the sub-culture of society (at least in the US), then no one aside from stoners will take the issue seriously.
Medical marijuana is an important step in getting this done. I think everyone can sympathize with cancer patients, those who are terminally ill, suffer chronic pain, etc. Those people represent a cross-section of society, and if they know that marijuana can help them, then they can be loud voices for its decriminalization.
Politicians? Forget them. Republicans and democrats are all the same. They are puppets of big business and bow down to special interests. The only thing that matters in politics today is money - not good ideas or rational common sense. The US needs a BIG overhaul of the federal government to change things, so that the government really is the will of the people and represents every day people like you and I. The yahoos in office now have no intention or motivation to help with the marijuana issue.
A few democrats would think about making medical marijuana okay, but that's about the extent of it. Don't even get me started with republicans. I think Dennis Kucinich is the biggest proponent of marijuana, at least from what I've seen. Basically, we need more stoners in congress and other high federal offices.
Honestly, I've even heard a lot of conservatives (ie republicans) say that they don't think it's worth it to arrest and detain small-time marijuana users. Someone who tokes up in their house after work poses little threat to society-at-large. So decriminalizing marijuana is an idea that's starting to spread across party lines.
Like I said in my earlier post, society gets more "liberal" as time goes on. The blowhards in office now won't always be there, and the stoners (a growing segment of the population) will eventually reach the age where they can not only vote, but also run for office.
Sorry for my long post. I usually don't do this but I'm sitting at home, bored, with only a little weed left, so I want to make it last until next week and hopefully I can get some more.
Great thread though!!!
We just need to get more people elected that are pro pot.I thought when my generation got to power maybe things would change but they haven't.The most important question to ask someone your thinking about voting for."Are you pro pot"If they so no don't vote for them.
I've sometimes fantasized about the revolution (when high)....
how the twelve Stoner Lords on Earth band together to overthrow the prohibitonist laws, and I end up leading them, and securing weed to be legal on an international scale.....and then I stand up in front of a cheering crowd of millions of people and announce that weed is fully legal....
I am then presented with a huge bong filled with white widow and they give me the honour of being the first to hit the Bong of Freedom. Many years after my death, the bong's in a museum.
that's cool as fuck. :jointsmile:Quote:

i think now that more and more studies are coming out with evidence showing cannabis is beneficial and not so much bad for a person...things will start to change for the better. If they knew the things we know now in the 70's...this shit would be legal without a doubt.
One day the weed might send us crazy like they keep saying and in an unfortunate turn of events we accidently killed all non smokers. That'll be the day. Shame that'll never happen really, concidering cannabis doesnt do that whatsoever. Bloody lying cheating corrupt bastards that have our fucking money, and are brainwashing everyone, it's pathetic.

I think that we've made a huge progress with all the new medicinal marijuana recently and that we'll see marijuana becoming legal to some extent in our lifetime.
