Haaaaaahahahahaha!
no.
Yes you can but try to throw a Floresent light in there with it.
A buddy whos house i use to grow at used a lavalamp with the normal bulb. I noticed that the bulb projected alot of heat. So we threw that in the closet with a 6" flor tube... the tube on 24 hours and the heat lamp on for 14 off for 10.
The concept was alaskan sun light time. Just a theory that we used. The plant grew about 2-3 inches a day...at the least.
Yes it will work for quite some time....
***BUT***
Remember that quality will not be the best, DUH. But your not gunna care if your using a lavalamp right?
oh and btw the bulb that came with this one was a clear one, small... but keeps a closet space between 72*-85* depending on the weather outside as well
I've used a lava lamp fixture myself, 2 fixtures, i had it rigged so it was suspended above the plant and angled in towards the center with a height adjuster. i grew a single plant in the closet for a few weeks and it got about 4-6in. tall.. i used one of them new floro bulbs.. the ones that are bout as big as an incandescent, but made to save energy.... walmart has them.. i pick one that had a lumen rating of around 4,800 or somethin that was efficient enough to a certain point i don't remember.. however i got faster and better growth when i switched to 36" floro tubes
Yah that is basicaly what we did. We had the lavalamp heat bulb suspended as though the sun was rising from the east and setting in the west, and in Alaska as most people know that in the deep summer, they dont ever lose light from the east so that is where we positioned the floro light shining from the east and made it level with the pot and the plant.Quote:

The grow was amazing after it started going. In about 5-7 days after planting the seeds we had about a 8" plant and another that was about 5" or so.
So i would definatly say that a lavalamp fixture would work just right.
Any idea why our 2 plants grew that fast?
that is a fast growth! were you using miracle grow soil or some type of fertillizer? otherwise it could've been your light bulbs emitting the right blend of light spectrums along with the ideal temp and humidity
Here is a quick sketch i drew on paint to show what we did to mak the lamp thing work,
we flipped it upside down and built a holder for it as well
nice sketch! i suck a paint.. however i have a degree in drafting on autocad... so you took the lava holder off so the bulb was exposed? i kept mine on in a attempt to narrow and direct the light more towards the plant then the whole room.. i used a clothes hanger and rigged it into a holder for it.. made a loop at the end and a u bend in the middle for angle adjustment i used 2 separate kite strings for the height/angle adjustments
Hhahahah wow sounds like you had the same type of setup. We did the exact same thing.
and then we took a shoe box to put the pot in and lined it with tin foil, we also put tin foil behind and above the light to direct the heat and light more downward to the plants.
haha we also used a kite string ring, it was just big enough to slip over the bottom half and stop before it went all the way off the light socket/holder/lamp or whatever haha. :rasta:
