The strain you are thinking that is forgiving and easy but still a top shelf strain is Northern Lights #5 it's a cross from DJ Shorts Blueberry with NL. The yield is a little more and the flavor is better but this one strain is very forgiving.
You need to find clones though you don't have enough room to grow to sex then finish a plant. You need more height then width dude.
A standard C-13 cab from Mills Pride is fine. They are like 24" deep 32" wide and about 72" tall.
That works if you can get the room for that.
ideally, plants will flourish in a 2-square foot floorspace, minimum of a square foot - one sq.ft. is really pushing the envelope, though, (the more room, the better the light will penetrate past the canopy, etc.) - :smokin:
Zandor: thank you for the suggestion on the strain. I cant get 72 inches in height, the max was 36, so I was just going to LST it in a relatively large pot and then attempt to flower it when theres no more area to tie it down.
That way the height wouldnt get too high.
I was considering SCROG, but Im alittle hazy on how to do it. I read justaseed's lovely ladies topic, but I dont get exactly how it would help, so Ill just do LST.
Do you think this is a good plan?
If I only wanted to grow one plant,
Id make a box using plywood, and make the dimentions 35 inches in height (does it need to be 35 if im using LST?), 20 inches in depth and 20 inches in length. Does anyone know how to make a box using regular wood so that I can get a hinge with a lock on it and not let air/light out?
Also, would the wood prevent smells from coming out, or should I line it with something? Weather Sealing?
I would have two 100 watt CFL's at the top and a very strong computer fan blowing the exhaust into a carbon scrubber.
The walls of my box would be covered with mylar,
and Id plant the seeds (seeds for the first time, id clone the plant after the first time) in a 6" rectangular pot.
Im also not going to add any nutrients as its my first grow and I am not familiar with it, so Ill just be growing in regular soil.
I heard a good soil should be around 4-1-1.
Anything Im missing and/or suggestions?
Thanks for the help so far.
If you are growing from seed you have a 50/50 chance of male or female plants. How lucky are you?
One plant limits your chance of success keep that in mind. For you you may want to find clones or maybe feminized seeds. Watch the temperature and environment in the 3rd week of vegetation. That is when from seed the sex is determined by the plant. Feminized seeds have a higher percentage chance in being female but they can Hermie on you if the environment turns bad for them.
Doing LST is fine if that is your only option. Being wider then high means you will start your plant at one end of the grow box. Then move it alone a string that is tight from one to the other to maintain your chosen height.
You can benefit from some products like silica or silica blast. they will strength the cell wall of the plant and make it more mailable (easer to bend with out breaking branches or causing kinks in the transportation system for the nutrients.
You may also want to have on hand a product called Bush Master from Humboldt this will stop the vertical growth and promote flowering earlier.
Do you have plans to show plant to light placement you can upload?
Happy growing
Ill upload a picture of my grow box once I get the fixture to hook the lights up to and the mylar.
Shouldnt be too long,
but I have a question on the LST.
You said take a string and strech it across my box,
but I thought LST was more along the lines of just looping the plants stem around your pot,

Like that,
and then once you have no more room in your pot, you go to a 12/12 cycle.
Also Ill look at those nutrients you listed.
Thanks for the help!
