The most overrated band ever is definitly Insane Clown Posse & U2. ICP is just so goddamn gay and there songs suck. Bono is the biggest piece of shit ever and I think he is represented perfectly in that South Park episode.
Rock in general is overrated. I could never get high to that shit. But thats just me.

Running to Stand Still
------- -- ----- -----
And so she woke up, woke up from where she was lying still, said I
got to do something about where we're going.
Step on a steam train, step out of the driving rain, maybe
run from the darkness in the night, singing
ah, ah la la la de day
ah la la la de day, ah la la de day
Sweet the sin, but bitter the taste in my mouth.
I see seven towers, but I only see one way out.
You got to cry without weeping, talk without speaking,
scream without raising your voice,
you know I took the poison,
from the poison stream, then I floated out of here, singing
ah, ah la la la de day
ah la la la de day, ah la la de day
oooh, oooh, oooh
She runs through the street with her eyes painted red
under black belly of cloud in the rain
in through the doorway she brings me
white gold and pearls, stolen from the sea, she is raging
she is raging, and the storm blows up in her eyes, she will
suffer the needle chill
she's running to stand still

All of you that hate on U2 must be out of your minds. Yes, Bono is a jackass, but I bet some of you like Metallica despite Lars. Yes, their new stuff kinda blows, it happens when you try and modernize am older band, but then again, there's millions of fans that would disagree with that. BUT, any of their older albums are amazing, whether it's Joshua Tree, War, Rattle and Hum, etc. It's undeniable. Oh, and their live performances are out of this world, I mean, they have their own damn concert movie coming out.
Truth is, most of you don't understand the true nature of music, and that is why your definitions of "overrated" as erroneous. Number one thing to remember about music is: it's a business, always has been, always will. Sooner you realize that, the better. Music for music's sake died with jazz.
i wouldnt really say wu tang clan are overrated, but if you are really putting them up there with some of the bands listed then yes, they most definitely are. same with the roots and sound garden, talking heads, peter tosh, tribe c alled quest, etc. seems to me like you decided what great bands were by looking at t-shirts at the local head shop.Quote:

ok. someone said wolfmother is overrated. compared to most bands out there today, they are amazing. excellent guitar licks, good lyrics, they have a pretty good rock n roll/classic rock feel that is rare among emerging bands. if you are a musician (esp. guitarists) you can respect what they do...they are extremely talented, and aren't exploited on the radio, tv, etc. so for the word 'overrated', not quite sure about that..
fall out boy wins for most overrated.

at least 95% of my friends blow wads into each others mouths over these guys, and to be honest they are lesser friends because of it
Strong statement there. On one hand, I agree that jazz as a genre, in its glory days, was as pure as blues in its glory days. High quality, low hype musical experience. On the other hand, I wouldn't write jazz off as 'dead' quite yet, although crap acts like KennyG dancing around the edges of the genre make me CRINGE.Quote:

As for all the hatin' on U2, pish posh. Old U2 has great musical merit, no matter what you think of the personalities associated with the band. The songwriting is top notch and it's rare to see a band gain both commercial success and earn respect as a political voice. The Joshua Tree is just a stellar album start to finish. Perhaps if you don't like that sort of rock, you won't get as much out of it as someone who does, but it's excellent; IMHO one of the greatest albums ever recorded in any genre.
And you may notice this thread has gotten a hair shorter... we can't be calling names here and the offender ironically got a warning ON THIS THREAD last YEAR... knock it off.
