i see you've already gotten the help you need. as to your previous question, i clip off one of the single leaves near the top of the bud. that way, i leave the smokeable flower intact, but have a nice trich-y sample. you diggin that magnifier? its weird to focus at first, but when you surrender to placing anything you want to magnify on a flat surface and moving your eye to the magnifier (instead of vice versa), it really is simple.
hope your girls are ready early!

i haven't used it for anything yet, except to look at one of those little order forms that come in a magazine! lol. i just got busy and by the time i was able to get to it they were our for the night. i'm gonna hit them up in the am though, fa sho!
that would be sweet if they were ready early! i think one or two of them might be.
i was thinking about getting some molasses. anyone ever use it and/or have any luck with it?
okay, back to learning!

I haven't used it personally yet, but from what I know it's supposed to make your buds swell during the last couple of weeks and it brings out the natural flavor of the cannabis....I plan on getting some for my little ladies too! Unsulphured black strap molasses is what I was told to use....Use it for 2 weeks, then flush for 7-10 days before harvest if I'm correct, but like I said personally I haven't used it yet, but def. planning too...
On another note I have the same magnifier that I also purchased from radioshack and what helps me to use the magnifier is to take a piece of the single leaves at the top of the bud and put in onto like a piece of white paper and set your magnifier onto the leaf through the little hole on the clear plastic piece and then focus it from there.....Once you get a good picture a few times you should get the hang of it! Let me know how it turns out!!!

ok. that microscope is something else to use! everything moves backwards, damn mirrors! it looks like most of my trichs are still clear with a few cloudy ones. i'm thinking about a) harvesting two of my plants and then putting them back into veg, or b) harvesting and leaving into flower and then possibly c) harvesting, chopping real small and making a bonsai mom.
can i get some feedback please? and here are a few pics of the two problems girls. the taller (mostly sativa, i think?) still doesn't have any red hairs but i was gonna go ahead and chop her so i didn't loose anything. what are your guys thoughts and feelings on the situation?
the other 2 (who appear to be the same strain) look very nice. they have a funky sour diesel type smell! they are still looking good.
i need to make a decision soon, like today. so come on guys, bail me out again!
italiano, i'm gonna try to go pick some molasses up this evening. i'll let you know.
thanks!

pic 1-body shot
pic 2-5-various bud shots, this is the lady that looks like a sativa (or at least mostly). i saw a couple of red hairs on her.
what's the verdict?

here are some pics of the other troublemaker.
pic 1-4-various bud shots. this lady has a lot of red hair!
and the verdict on this one please?
thanks again!

you have many options...
trichs usually change (for the most part) all together. my advice is to take a smallish popcorn bud, dry it in the oven @ 200 or lower until its fairly crispy. smoke it (ignore the chloryphyll taste), and see how you like the effects. if you're happy, you know what to do.
you also could harvest the top 1/3 of one and then reveg into a mother, or allow it to flower longer and let the lower colas develop more.
or, you could do your bonsai idea. trimming roots can be fun.
i'd leave the one in the 1st set of pics alone for a while though, but its your call. sample them all!
on a side note, the second set of pics i saw deep dark green leaves. probably due to the nute thing we posted about earlier (full of nitrogen). you'll definitely wanna flush those for a week or so to eliminate that funky chemical smell and taste.
keep on rockin', 'shake!

thanks for the info gg! as always, you rock! i wonder where they are getting all of this nitrogen from? the other two girls (the ones looking good) are very dark green. hmm?
okay. i'm gonna go grab a little bud, and dry it and test it out. then i'm gonna flush the piss out of them. i was gonna go get some molasses but now i'm unsure.
what would be "best" for the plants. or the "best" for me really. lol. to re-veg or to chop the tops and allow to flower more? and i think i am gonna bonsai atleast the sativa-esque mom. she has huge buds compared to the other ones!
the people on these forums are amazing. thanks again golden!

best for you would be to smoke it all now. lol just playin. lets see... the best for...
yield - chop the top 1/3 of all plants and bud for another 4-5 weeks to let lower colas develop
potency - let them all go another 2-3 weeks. best piece of advice i've heard in awhile is, "when you think they're ready to chop, wait 5 days." you could also combine this waiting with the "best for yield" technique, above
i've never used molasses before, as i jumped balls in to hydro for my first grow. never hear people stop talking about it though. i don't think it provides anything but sugars that the plant can use immediately. no NPK value to it, just a boost of carbohydrates for the plant. so it couldn't hurt to do maybe a week's watering with molasses, then flush another week before harvest.
i've been early-morning drinking, so apologies if the above made no sense.

Wow. Im a newbie but your grow log was impressive. How many days total has it been so far?

thanks kc! truly. this is my first go round, and it pretty much started as an experiment. when i started i knew nothing, and still don't know much. but i read all that i can and try to ask semi-intelligent questions.
other than that, it's just getting your hands dirty! have fun with it.
