this is pretty shoddy thread. floyd is everything its said to be. go listen to the wall or dark side in thier entirity before being an ass.
in my mind, the most overrated 100% goes to Soulja Boy. "supersoak that ho"??? its got the dumbest lyrics ive heard in a song, and its all about having sex and supermanning....

Floyd is not all about Dark Side and The Wall... People don't listen to Meddle, Saucerful of Secrets, Piper at the Gate of Dawn, More, Obscured By Clouds- THOSE are the more psychedelically-based albums. Echoes is a fantastic song. My favorite album is Meddle; The Wall and Dark Side are great, but they don't have the early kind of space-rock feel.
I think Beyonce is overrated... Yeah, she's got a good voice, but everything sounds the same, and she's too showy for me.

I'll agree with you guys that DS isn't my favorite album, and I definitely have listened to all their albums. I just think that their far too overplayed and played up to be this amazing thing, and I just can't see it.
There are plenty of better psychadelic bands out there, both past and present, that don't get nearly the recognition they deserve because of Floyd and their continuing reputation as a stoner's "best friend." That shit drives me crazy because first off, their stuff really isn't all that mind-blowing or technically outstanding. It's a little too abstract for my liking, I'm sorry to say. Groundbreaking, most definitely, which is why I show respect, but not to some 15 year old sporting his fresh Dark Side shirt with his hemp necklace on. Syd was the man, basically, and if he had stuck around longer than he did, I'm sure I'd have different feelings on them. Anything with Syd tho, I can dig. Just not in excess. Small doses of Floyd, please.

come on there was I wanna rock and roll all night, and maybe detroit rock city.. but aside from those 2 they are SO lame. Gene Simmons is a total douchebag too, has said in interviews even he cares more about the money than the music...
oh man pink floyd is so annoying. There fans are so rediculous. They blindly defend pink floyd by saying something like "there not all dark side and the wall". Well you guys, ive listened to meddle, saucerful of secrets, piper at the gates of dawn all that shit. Numerous times. I too used to think they were the shit, no doubt. I would say things like "if you dont love pink floyd your listening to much to much hip hop and warped tour garbage". I soon found out that there were many other genres, theres sublayers, entire universes of music that lay beneath the mainstream. There always have been but by way of the internet artists that cant get signed to record lables due to extensive original and/or individual sounds can get there sounds out to the world. Eventually they [pink floyd] got blown out of my brain by massive amounts of greater music. Much more psychedelic, stuff that pink floyd cant even hold a candle to. So when someone tells me that im listening to too much mtv because i dont like pink floyd, i'll put on some B**** P*** and in a few seconds when they stick their fingers in their ears it'll fell mushy. Because there brain just got raped.
Pink floyds fans are typically the kinds of people that say they listen to a everything except country. Classic rock, early 90s rock, radiohead, oldschool rap and tool are not everything except country, im sorry.
to sum this up. Dont assume im not as musically advanced as you are because i dont like pink floyd. Its more like i surpassed you so extensively that your caught in the dust trying to pick yourself up and cursing at the world, blaming other things for your problems and insecurities.
There's no point arguing about music. Everyone has their own personal preferences as what genre's and bands they like.
Just try to keep an open mind [and ears too] when your listening. :jointsmile:
Does it honestly matter how diverse your music tastes are? I DO happen to listen to everything but country, including (but not limited to) classic metal, trip hop, ska, hip hop, rap, grunge, alt rock, showtunes, classic rock, folk, rock rap, a very large margin of soundtrack music, classical music, pop, soul, techno, jazz, piano, vocal, Italian/French/Spanish opera/operetta, symphony orchestrations, a capella, Swahili tribal music (Like Lebo M and Khululiwe Sithole), parody, ambient, and yes, even polka. Hell, I listen to classic country though, like a mixture of the Eagles and some folk singers. I don't listen to tiny tidbits of each genre, rather, I am constantly listening to music.Quote:
