I agree with X-C that you can mix soil and water in cup and measure ph. Also you will be able to measure the ph of the water you are using before you water with it and adjust as necessary which will help keep your ph correct in the future. That is pretty much the end of my knowledge on soil and it isn't much. ;) I've tried to study soil methods but always seem to get caught up with words like.....ickies. :D
PS You probably already know this....don't use fish products to adjust ph....only the ph testers are ok. Apparently the ph adjusters for fish contain too many salts for plants. You can raise ph with baking soda and lower it with distilled white vinegar.
