I checked the C drive as you suggested. It verified files, indexes, and security descriptors then the "usn journal." (My computer's full of seamen )But how do you slow down the scrolling info? I was able to pick out the words "allocation" and "free bits/bytes" but it was gone in a flash.
Then this slow-ass thing just fired up like usual. The one time it actually runs fast...
No fan on the video card. Seems like I had a glitchiness that somebody said, "Ahh, yer video card's prolly goin' out," like a year ago, but now I can't remember what that problem was...The heatsink on the video processor is warm, but not screamin' hot. It's definitely not catching much air movement, whether the case is assembled or not. I should probably put a loose fan in there.

And did it still not find Login.exe?
If so, then it's time to replace damaged system files.
There's a little known gem called SFC (System File Check)
that will examine and replace damaged system files like login, exe.
You'll need a location to get the files from.
I usually copy the install CD to a directory I call Everet Ting.
before installing windows.
The install is faster, and it remembers that directory instead of asking for the original CD should you want to add or subtract windows modules/services.

Well, it stopped and gave me that error message box, as is usual (now). (All you do is click "OK" and you proceed as normal, no big deal.)
I'm pretty sure I've got the original discs for Windows. They hadda lotta service paks and such patched on over the years, though. I actually have XP on this though. Musta been like a early Beta version. :D
