I am on marriage number three, and have been in other serious relationships with several other men, so I am not really as pie in the sky as you think. Demeter certainly knows about the highs and lows of love - I survived two painful divorces, and I'm not bitter yet!
Any love is better than no love, regardless of the end result. Even if it doesn't last forever, it is glorious while it's there. Never stop believing in the possibility of joy, young friend. It can happen for you too, and then I will say told ya so.....:D
