Hash made in this fashion is sometimes called "bubble hash" - because it is so pure that it bubbles when heated! Well-made bubble hash is a very potent product â?? a tiny piece will produce enough billows of smoke to get a small crowd high.
The two main commercial ice-water filtration systems available are "Bubble Bags" from Fresh Headies and the Ice-o-lator, another product developed by Mila. Both operate on the same principle of using cold water and filtering bags to isolate trichomes. You can also make your own kit by acquiring mesh of the appropriate sizes and carefully sowing it into bags of strong material.
In order to make bubble hash you'll need a kit with filtering bags, two impeccably clean five gallon pails and a hand mixer. The exact method can vary depending on which system you're using, but the essentials are the same. The Ice-o-lator uses two filters to screen out contaminates, leaving the trichomes caught in the second filter. The bubble bag kits from Fresh Headies contain either three or six colourâ??coded bags, and allow you to simultaneously make different grades of hash.
To start with a bubblebag kit, place your skuff into one of your five gallon buckets. Use up to 100 grams of dry skuff, or double that weight if it's fresh or wet.
Because ice makes the trichomes brittle, add plenty - at least six ice cube trays. Then fill up the bucket with cold water. Leave a few inches at the top so you don't splash too much when mixing.
Use the hand mixer to blend continuously for 15 minutes to one hour or more. Mixing longer will produce a higher yield that will be slightly less potent. The mixture will become green and frothy. You should take breaks every so often to let the mixture settle.
When done mixing, allow the mixture to settle for at least 30 minutes. If the ice has melted, add more. If possible, put the pail in the freezer, or outside if you live in a cold climate â?? you want that water to stay cold!
Now put your "work bag" into your second bucket. This bag should have a screen size between 200 and 250 microns, the one from Fresh Headies is 220. Pour your frothy green mix into the work bag in the second bucket. Slowly lift out the bag and squeeze out the water. Set aside the work bag with the green matter for a second rinse.
Now you have a bucket full of green water which contains many trichomes, as well as other contaminants. Everything that was smaller than 220 microns is in that water.
Arrange the other bags inside of the now empty bucket. Put the bag with the finest mesh in the bucket first, then place the bags with larger screen sizes inside the first one. With the Fresh Headies three bag kit you put the 25 micron bag in first and the 73 micron bag inside of it. You'll get fine hash if you just use one bag with a screen size around 73 microns.
Now you carefully pour the green water into the bucket with the bags. Then you slowly lift out each bag in succession, being sure to give them time to drain. If you're using a 25 micron bag it will drain very slowly â?? be patient. Squeeze out the excess water from each bag after it is drained.
You will now have a brownish sludge at the bottom of the bags. Remove it with a credit card or spoon to a plastic bag. Blot the sludge with a towel to remove excess moisture, and let it dry out for at least 12 hours. You might want to wait up to a week for it to fully dry and cure, if you are that patient! Be sure that your product is entirely dried so as to avoid mold problems later on.
You'll get less product from the 25 micron bag, but it will have a unique and potent affect when consumed. Bubble bag creator "Bubble Man" speculates that these are the smaller trichome heads â?? not immature, but simply the smaller heads associated with Sativa strains. He argues that Indica strains have larger trichome heads, and that Sativa strains have smaller heads on longer stalks. Crosses between these two types doesn't produce medium sized trichomes, but rather a mix of the large and small. This theory seems to be borne out by results, but much more research needs to be done.
Now go back and give the green matter in the work bag a second rinse, to be sure that you get out every last trichome!
The yield from 200 grams of skuff is around 6 to 20 grams, with an average yield around 10 grams. The quantity of hash produced depends in large part upon the quality of your original material.

Hello guys,
I'm posting cause I'm a little worried.
My clones ain't looking that good.... yeah, yeah, I know you told me not to put them into 12/12, but I'm stupid.
So, working with what I've got, please take a look @ the pics. I've uploaded them in high resolution (sorry to people with dial-up) so you can zoom-in and judge by yourselves. Any takes on their problems?
Nutrients: Half the dose General Hydroponics recommends for clones. I've got the GH 3-part, and I used their chart. I used the ratios for "clones", and I halved them. I mixed everything for 1 gallon, then added 1 more gallon of water. Halved.
The fog times are: 1minON/9minOFF. Again, NutraMist fogger.
2 CFLs turned ON... each is 42Watts, "comparable" to 150W incandescent.
Any takes? Ideas? Suggestions?
More fog? Less fog? More nutes? Less nutes?
Thank you, and may god bless our ... ??? Puppies? Trees!

BTW: Oh yeah, mothers are doing fine.
Sorry turtle I wouldnt know, hope you get some good info
Man I never knew clones were that hard:confused: Now I'm scared to grow them:confused:
Hey turtle glad to find your thread. Clones do not work with foggers. The poor girls are starving. I would get them out of there quick and stick them in a bubble cloner.
DUDE! Don't be scared! C'mon man, your clones will sail much more smoothly than mine... we're learning with my clones... dude, GO FOR THE CLONES!Quote:

Yes,clones, bubbler, fogger. Clones do not work in foggers. They don't have roots to absorb the nutrients. Make a bubble cloner. I have a picture of a bubble cloner I made for my seedlings. Get a two line air pump from walmart $10, a container with a plastic lid, punch holes in the lid, 1/8 inch tubing and a flexible bubble tray.
Make the hole large enough to let the stem pass through the hole without pinching it. Put your clones in. Let the bubbles spray the bottom of the stem. Keep the water level below the stems. Run bubbler 24/0. Since your plants are starving put the weak nuts in the bubbler. They should be fine and recover. Don't overfertilize at this stage. Keep it weak. You'll see a change in a day or two. Watch the plants, if after a few days they are still yellow, give them a bit more of nitrogen to green up those leaves. Remember not too much.
After they develop roots, then put them in the fogger. I saw some nice looking pepper plants that were grown with a fogger. good luck.
here's the right picture of the bubble trays.
^^^^ Hey Gen, thanks a million. Nice loom ;)
I can build the bubble right now... Question::: (s) ::::
1. Do I use rooting hormone again on the same part of the stems I'd like to be 'roots'?
2. Should I place a "humidity dome" over them?
3. When I actually do my grow (these are just for 'cloning for sex'), can I go clones-->bubble-->fog without problems? Once the roots are set, they'll be fine uptaking the fog? Thanks, and sorry for the runaround.
Thanks for the help G,
-turtle420
.
No rooting hormone. I don't use any. Withhealthy clones, just water is enough. The plant has enough food stored in the leaves to make roots. Just stick the clones in with a very weak fertilizer. Since your clones are so starved, they will need some food right away to make it. No humidity dome is needed with bubblers. Spray with a very dilute (just a couple of drops) solution to feed the foliage directly. Keep out of direct sun or strong light. Fluoros would be good for now. Leave the lights on 24/7. Check the plants hourly, if possible.
Yes, foggers will work, just not for clones. The plants need to have roots first.
Ok, forget about checking them hourly. Just keep an eye on them. Darn forgot these are clones for sexing. Give them weak nutes and 12/12. They are plenty stressed so maybe they will show their sex early for you.
Thanks Gen...Quote:

I'll log in in about 1 hour... Thanks for the help! SUPER!

Yes, I think that will do fine.
Keep on tokin, turtle!
Ok, I was going to do the bubble cloner today, but I can't, due to "sealant drying times".
I bought this 6" pot for the bubble cloner, but it holes @ the bottom. So I sealed it up with some silicone, but it doesn't look dry. Just to make sure, I'll leave it dry until tomorrow... which kind of sucks, because I wanted to place the clones into the bubbler today...
I hope they don't die before tomorrow... I just need to know their sex... they can die afterwards if they want....

Thanks for the FAQ's!:)
They are looking good Turtle!:)
White Widow is a nice strain!:)
What seed bank did you get you're Widow's from?:)
hey turtle iam trying to figure that out now. i want to find a strain that is the shortest and bushiest strain and when i figure that out im going to spring for some seeds from a seed bank. as now im bag seed grower only.any suggestions would be appreciated. piccts too
Turtle, if you can't do the bubbler today, then put the clones in a glass with the nutrients. Take them out of the fogger now. I made my bubble cloner by getting a food container and cutting holes in that. Put a hole in the top and feed the air tube through that . Make the hole small so the air hose will stay in place and not pull out.
Hey powder, I bought some seeds from weedfarmer and received crushed seeds. He said he would send me somemore and that was January 17. Still no seeds.
Hey skippi, How does bag weed taste? I've never had the chance to try any homegrown.
Alright guys, I see a couple of replies that I want to answer... but before any of you log off, I'd like to post some pictures and a Clone Update...
I went to WalMart because I didn't want to wait until tomorrow to do the clones... so I went out to pick-up a Sterilite tub. Fine... I did the holes, the airstone, pump, etc.... etc...
I took out my clones from the cabinet, and started taking the "fog cloner" apart... when I separated the 6" pot from the top "humidity dome", I was shocked and surprised to find the clones had foggy roots!!!
They've got roots!!! Oh yeah, the thing about the fog "micro hairs", totally true. The roots looked... well, kind of "spongy" like.
I tried to get some pics, I hope you enjoy.
So, after seeing that the clones have roots, I'm wondering...
What else could be causing the clones to look in such a bad shape? Should I remove the humidity dome?
Should I increase the fog ON time (currently @ 1minON/9minOFF)?
Should I DEcrease the fog ON time?
Should I increase the nutes?
Should I... ???
Please look @ the pictures, they where all taken @ the same time...
Although they've got roots, you can see their poor appereance top-side...
Please help, thanks!
-turtle420
.
BTW: WE'VE GOT FOGGY ROOTS!!!!! WUHUUUU!!!!!
they look nutrient deprived gotta remember that clones are same age as mother plant and need same uptake to produce...thats all i can think of off my head i'll do a few searches see if anything pops up
nutes nutes nutes.... Congrats on the roots:clap:
Thanks Bk, thanks Buk :DQuote:

Anyways, I'm a newb on this growing business... I bought White Widow, to be quite honest, because of the name. But I didn't know jack shit about Indica or Sativa... or this or that... I'll be trying different strains in the future. I also ordered Bubblelicious [?] and White Russian.
As to your "shortest and bushiest strain", well, again, I don't know. My mothers are pretty short and bushy (less than 16" high, from bottom of pot to top of plants)... but I've LSTed the shit out of them. FIM/topping/pinchin', I've only done on secondary growths... not on the very top of the plants... and I only did it in two or three... or four or five... secondary growths... just to experiment... to see what would happen... now I know!
Best,
-turtle420

Nice roots turtle.
Now why didn't they take up the nutrients? Does the fogger take out the nutrient because the molecule size is larger? Your plants should not be all spent looking like that with roots and nutrients.
Hey G! Good to see your post...Quote:

But, maybe it was the nutes? Too weak? Again, I was using GH's clone strength mix, @ 50%. But, I don't know if they're better right now...
Another thing I'm thinking::: When will it be time to remove the humidity dome? They have to come out of there some time in their lives...
Hey turtle,
When I did my fogger thing, I never used a humidity dome, even when I initally transplanted from soil.
Are the clones starting to get greener? I hope they make it long enough to sex.
So how are the results from the topping?
Well, here's my situation with the fogger...Quote:

PROBLEM: The 50CFM fart fan sucks all the fog out of the pot&dome in less than 2-3 minutes. So I've got it 1minON/9minOFF, but still, after the pot and the dome get filled with fog, about 3 minutes later, it's all completely gone.
How did you do it, Gen?
I need to have an "escape" for the fog, or the NutraMist won't be able to "pump IN" the fog into the root chamber. But, that same opening, allows the fog to... bye bye!
Ideas?
Topping... on my plants? I'll take some pics and post them later tonight. I cut the top off a few secondary growths... I cut @ a slanted angle (about 45degrees) the top off, and about three new growths appeared... in addition, (in one case) because of the cut and the healing time, a pre-cut secondary growth catched-up with the rest of the stem, and now it's bigger than the top's 3 growth shoots.Quote:

Turtle I suggest doing this. Make the area from the plant being connected to the tub be completely sealed. Then in the middle of the tub have about a 2" hole so air can escape into the upper plant area. Then put another 2" hole in the humidity dome. This would create the following circuit for the fog:
1.) Air enters the Nutrimist fogger.
2.) The fog gets pushed into the rooting area of the plants.
3.) The rooting area will fill up with fog.
4.) The fog then pushes its way into the humidity dome only after filling the rooting area.
5.) The humidity dome fills up with fog.
6.) Excess fog escapes via the 2" hole at the top of the humidity dome.
Also I hope you have been keeping the fogger on constantly...
Gen, I STRONGLY disagree with your views on the fogging method of cloning.
http://cgi.ebay.com/Hydroponics-Indo...QQcmdZViewItem
Also turtle, I dont think you should be giving the clones nutrients just yet either. But, let's say that you wanted to give them nutrients. The fogger makes the water molecules about 2-4 microns big. That is small enough to fit into the pores of the roots. This eliminates pH problems. And because the pH isn't a problem anymore, the plant gets ALL the nutrients you put in the water mixture. And since the nutrients are usually water soluable they are still in the 4 micron thick piece of water. Goodluck <3
And sorry if my ides are not organized because I'm just not thinking clearly today.
Hey Thug, thanks for posting and providing your input :) I really appreciate it.Quote:

The pot was fill of water (dripping on its sides)... the mother cab was full of water on its floor... the floor of my room had pools of ex-fog nuted water... the wall where the exhaust air of the cabinet hits, that thing was drenched with water... I mean.. 24/7 Fogger? Uy uy uyyyy....
My schedule for the fogger right now is a quasi-Ebb&Flow schedule: 1minON/9minOFF during DAYtime. It goes 1minON/59minOFF during NIGHTtime.
Seems to be working good. Although, I was thinking about that today, and during nightime, the exhaust fan is OFF. Well, I turn it ON for 1minute - the minute before the NutraMist comes ON to fog the place. Then the fan shuts OFF, and the fogger comes ON for 1 minute. Then everything OFF for the next 58 minutes.
But I was thinking, I'd like to:::
1- turn ON fan for 1minute
2- turn OFF fan, turn ON fogger for 1minute
3- turn OFF fogger,
4- after 20 minutes, turn ON fan for 1 minute
I think that the fog @ nightime is lingering too much.
As to your fog path concept, I follow you. I congratulate you dude on doing this by imagination! The thing is, my 50CFM fart fan, pulls air THROUGH the fogger hose. So, when my fogger is turned OFF, the fan pulls air through two places: 4" dryer duct intake (fresh air), 1" fog hose (NutraMist is turned OFF @ this moment).
So, when I turn OFF the fog, the fart fan anyways pulls the fog away.
The only way I see around this is to install the fog outlet directly to the OUTSIDE of the cabinet, so it's unaffected by the "vacuum" of the 50CFM fart fan.
I'd better nail this down soon, as I'll be having the same "problem" inside my flowering cabinet when my grow starts...
Thanks Thug, and I still miss the Puppy Sandwich... although your new avatar, for some idiotic reasons, make me laugh,

Hey Thug,
Today, stuck in a traffic jam, smoking a lot, and hearing some good music, I had a cool idea for your fogger.
If you're not buying the full fledged NutraMist setup, but you're buying the head(s), then you need to keep the nute level @ optimum, for best performance. Too high level, performance suffers. Too low level, the fogger shuts off.
Well, you can set your fogger head on a "buoy"... floating on the nute rez. You place the head @ a pre-determined height below the "floating material". That way, if your nute levels go up, or down, the fogger head is always @ the optimum liquid level.
Hehehe... my thoughts/posts are disorganized today too...
Yea, I had already thought of that. Also, I still believe it would be better to have it on more than 1 minute or w/e you have it set to and just have something drain the water back to the reservoir. I figured that you already had something draining it back to your res so I never included that part. Anyways, goodluck <3Quote:

After I posted last night, I went out. I got home late... some shit like 4 in the morning. So, I did my shit before going to bed... but, I couldn't see the plants. They shut-off lights @ 5am... and between this and that, and doing this and that under alcohol's influence, I was unable to open the cabinet in time. So I just crashed into the cloudy fields of Dream Gates Park.
I really wanted to see how the clones where doing... I hope they didn't dry up. I'm guessing they're wilted, but shit, they've got roots... they should pick-up... little bastards. Hey Thug, I've got a pretty good idea for the fog inside the root chamber thing.... You know our problem? That the fog escapes into the inside of the grow room? Well, I think... I think, I've got a solution. Let me try and hammer it out, and I'll do a picture and upload it.

I just opened the cab. Needless to say, fuck. :(
 noooooooo Man I wish i knew what to say but I dont know squat about clones:( I hope u get the right info...
Maybe the strain is just tough to clone:confused:
Well thug it's okay to disagree. I read the website and it does talk about cloning and fogging. They are also selling a product. I read an article on fogging and it said fogging does not work with clones and did not explain why.
Then what happened to turtle's clones? They looked starved to death. They were not getting any nutrient at all. When I propagate I don't use any fertilizer in the water. It's not necessary. The plant gets it's food from the leaves. I left all the leaves on a cutting and the cutting rooted and never showed signs of yellowing till much later. I have also used weak nutes in cloning and it still worked.
Oh man, they look done for. :(
