Just a little journal............
Interesting Mand. Not being an expert, but one to think too much on stuff, I think (see...I told ya!), I would put it back into veg, go till 10 weeks if that's what you normally do, then throw the hps in there and flower. It's not like you have to have any additional...stuff...and this would answer whether or not what you suggest is indeed the case. That being that they're too young to handle flowering. We'd all learn something!!
But, all that said, I've always heard/read, that you can take one of these plants and flower way before they become what is considered to me 'mature' i.e. with alternating nodes. If that is true, which it seems it is as many people have grown successful healthy flowers by inducing flowering well before alternating nodes, their age wouldn't be what's causing the droop.
Just a thought Mand. Of course not telling you what to do. Just suggesting a test to see if you can figure out what the drooping is once and for all.
But one more question. In the past, you no doubt had grown during these same times of the season. Did you have droop then? Or did you always go 10 weeks before flowering? I know you said "I have always induced flowering after about ten weeks of vegitive growth" but just asking. Just thinkin'.

Just a little journal............
Hello Marc :) I'll answer the question first love ;) ........ Apart from the last grow I have never ever had droopy leaves on any grow before.
I have checked the writting on these two HPS bulbs with the orginal one (still on a shelf in the shed) and they are identical.
As for them being too young for flowering, I have never heard of it before and I do doubt it but it's the only thing I can think off to make them react badly to the HPS.
When comparing this and the last grow to previous ones I have ruled out over and under watering, the cold (that is effecting the rate of growth), there not root bound, the compost is fine, nutrients are ok. I cannot see any reason for the droopiness other than the timing of the flowering.
Plus as soon has the MH is put back in there, they seem as happy as anything.
I say I usually flower at about 10 weeks, however that is more a rough estimate rather than a precise figure ;)
As for putting them back into vegitive growing, I won't do that Marc. I want this lot "done and dusted" by April, so what I'm going to do is keep them under the MH for the next 2-3 weeks and then I will try them again on the HPS and see what happens ;)
As for the stock I have finished all the buds from the grow I did when these bulbs were new, although I still have half a shoe box of resinous leaves and small buds from that grow, plus all the buds from the last grow and a shoe box full of resinous leaves and small buds as well :)
At the moment they have picked up again under the MH, I would add a pic but I have still not got my camera back yet :(
Anyway Marc I'm having a little rest from the plants this weekend, after work on Saturday I'm off to spend what's left of the weekend at my brothers. He lives in a lovely little village (I won't say which one ;) ) in Linconshire. lots of lovely countryside albeit very flat there.
Oh and there will be no smoking of the herb, he doesn't approve :(
Bye for now Marc ...................... love mand xxx:)

Yes Buk I know you're near ready for harvest and you have done a super nice job of it as well . As for help of anyone, I feel certain that you would have grown just as well without anyones help at all, you have the entuhsiaism for it, and that's what counts .................... by the way love are you ready for the next grow
Mand no way you already know I was willing to give up the 2nd day and you told me to keep growing that everything will be fine and you were right;)
If it wasnt for you I probably wouldnt have my lovely buds:thumbsup:
By the way I dont think you ever answered me on the whole drying and curing process. I wanted to know your methods:thumbsup:
-
Just a little journal............
Hello Buk :) The drying, I answered ..................... honest love ;) , post 373, page 15 :)
Oh I feel sure you would have managed a grow on you're own :) However it really is very handy being able to come on here and see all the different grows and get a few hints and tips of all the different people ;)
Hello Scobbie :) I have my camera back love so I'll just add a couple of pics.
They'll be ok love even if I have to keep the MH on them throughout the whole flowering period .................. hope I don't have to though :o
Well 8 plants left now, just got rid of two boys. Oh by the way this is also turning into the longest time I have known for them to show their gender, only two males so far and no females have shown themselves at all yet.
Prehaps I should say 7 plants and one "little runty" :)
love mand xxx:)

Just a little journal............
mand what is the temp of your room , its doesnt fluxuate does it as you know our climate is a head ache and the only time i have had droping at the tips is when its been cold outside i will post your pics to a freind who is a botanist to see if we can decidie what it is try take a pic of the wirst affected plant you have or the worst affected leave and we will get to the bottom of it just for you mate

Just a little journal............
Hey Mand,
I was just wondering if the 'Droop' was interferring with the production of flowers? I was thinking if it doesn't interfere and the fan leaves want to droop let them.
I know you will get better 'Cola' prodution (tighter buds) with the HPS than the MH.
Ah yes, so many opinions, only so many days of flowering. :D
Have a good day Mand
-
Just a little journal............
I guess that's why I'd put the hps on 'em and let it run it's course. Flowers do best with that spectrum of light...or so I read. If they did ok with just mh then no one would buy an hps. And ultimately, who cares if the leaves droop a little. If they aren't dying then they're just...droopy leaves. No biggie. And they might possibly come out of it if you just left the hps in there. I don't think you've ever given them a chance to 'adapt'. Just take it out as soon as they droop...put the mh back in and they aren't...put the hps back in and they droop. Proves that when the light is changed to hps from mh that for some reason they're reacting.
What about heat? If it's so cold in your room does the mh put out more heat than the hps? If so maybe they're reacting to a colder environment. MH puts the temp at a point where the plants thrive but the hps puts them below that level? Just a thought.
All that said I'd rather have them go through flowering with the proper light spectrum with droopy leaves (that I must say look way better than a lot of grows I've seen and they produced good flowers) than the wrong spectrum with perky leaves.

Just a little journal............
Hello :) I hope it's ok if I just do this post as a whole rather than individually, otherwise I could end up just writting the same thing in different ways :o
Yes the temp does vary Scobbie, in the day when the light is on it gets quite pleasant (well pleasant-ish) but when the light is off at night it does get rather chilly in there.
The cold is causing the longest period I have ever known for the plants to show their gender, it's been two weeks today and the only ones I am sure about are the two males I threw out yesterday.
Is the cold causing the droop ? ..................... Well it's not helping but the same thing happened on the last grow and the temps were much higher then.
Also the strains that are growing are my winter growing strains because I have grown them a few times before at this time of year without any problems ;)
As for the MH, oh yes HappySmoke to flower with the MH does mean a reduction in the compactness of the buds. I am thinking along the lines that you and Marc have said "put the HPS in there and let them droop".
The only problem is that when I go in there and see them looking all sad and droopy, I really dislike to see them that way, it really does upset me :(
Anyway guys I have taken a few pics and I'm having a break from the plants this weekend so I am considering just putting the HPS back in there and leaving it there no matter what happens, if they droop badly I'm just going to have to learn to ignore it :o
Thankyou ever so much guys for you're concern, I'll just post some pics so that you can see them yourself and see what you think ;) :)
Thankyou ............................. love mand xxx:)
-
Just a little journal............
Oh I'll just add a pic of "little runty" ............... don't know if it is a he or a she yet though ??????
Personally I suspect it's a girl ;)
love mand xxx:)
-
Just a little journal............
Ahh.. They look mighty fine mand!:)
I sign up as a volouteer crop tester! : )
-
Just a little journal............
yes Mand I think they look very very very good I cant wait till they start flowering.. So your not pinching with this crop right?
-
Just a little journal............
Hello PP :) "Crop tester" .................. well I'm affraid you might have to wait a while love, they are going very very slowly :o
Hello Buk :) that's right no pinching this time. To tell the truth I just wanted a very quick grow, however I think the plants have other ideas in that department :o
As long has I can get the widows started before May, going to need the Summer months for them. I'm going to need quite a while with them as I am planning on giving them a good long vegitive growth period.
love mand xxx:)

Just a little journal............
mand what are you useing for wattage on your mh?
-
Just a little journal............
Hello cptweedmanguy :) ............... it's a 400 watt, with a ballast that can accomodate both the MH and HPS bulbs.
I would prehaps maybe like a little bit more wattage but this one has managed well for quite a few years now ;)
love mand xxx:)

Just a little journal............
"The only problem is that when I go in there and see them looking all sad and droopy, I really dislike to see them that way, it really does upset me "
I wish I could find the post you made quite a while ago Mand. Someone was telling how hard it was to cut down one of their 'girls' and you said something like, "Jeeessh! It's just a plant guys!" and made a comment on how it was so strange that people got so attached to their plants. :D Looks like you're softening in your old age. Cool.
-
Just a little journal............
Hello Marc :)
Hmmmmm maybe "really upset" was too strong a pharse, prehaps I should have said "really cheesed off";).
As for this grow, am I fed up with it  , It has been nothing but a pain right from the start. You know Marc I really could just chuck the lot of them in the bin at times :o
Never mind Marc you ought to see me when I have a pair of sisscors in my hand .................... I show them no mercy at all :)
By the way love if this lot makes it to harvest, I think that I may get a little sadistic pleasure in cutting them up :o :)
love mand xxx:)
-
Just a little journal............
Well if ya tie 'em up and whip 'em make sure you take photos!!
-
Just a little journal............
Oh dear Marc :) but I've never tied anyone up or whipped them :o
Mind you if someone offered me the cash to do it, I'm you're girl for the job ;):)
Anyway, this "quick grow" doesn't seem to know it's supposed to be a "quickie". However the eight remaining plants have spent a couple of days under the HPS and they seem to be holding up well:)
They are still very slow on showing their gender, over two weeks now and only identified two males.
I'll just add a few pics from today ...................
love mand xxx:)

Just a little journal............

Just a little journal............
Hey Mand just wanted to stop by and say hello... Please check out my thread like in a day or two cause I'll be posting new pics so I know you have a better eye for harvest than me being that I never been through one:p Thanks Mand talk to you soon:thumbsup:
-
Just a little journal............
Hello Buk :) I'll keep an eye out love ;) , although I do have an habit of harvesting too soon :o
Anyway Buk, from the last pics you posted I don't think it will be too long before you start snipping with the sisscors :)
love mand xxx:)

Just a little journal............
YYYYYaaaaaaaaaYYYYY:D Sorry mand you just got me a little to happy:D
-
Just a little journal............
Hello Buk :) .................if I can make someone happy then that makes me happy :)
Well an update, to be honest this grow is getting really kinda silly now.
I have just had a good look at them and given them a really good check over and .................... well there is nothing  , not one flower or bud insight, not a sausage  :o
Personally I still think that I put them on 12/12 too early.
Anyway not to worry, I'm sure they will do something when they are ready :)
Oh and they are still looking ok under the HPS ............. so that's something positive I suppose ;)
I haven't bothered with any pics because they just look the same as the last time ................................
love mand xxx:)
-
Just a little journal............
I'm glad to hear their Ok under that HPS, I know you were a little upset about the droopy leaves, even though to me they looked fine but your the boss:thumbsup:
-
Just a little journal............
Happy Valentines Day Mand :)
Your looking as Sexy as ever. ;)
-
Just a little journal............
Hello Happy :) Awwwww, a valentines message for me :). now that really is a first and so very sweet :o .......................Thankyou love :)
Altough I'm not too sure about the avatar, I keep looking at it and thinking maybe I should change it back :o
Hello Buk :) there is still a "droop" about the leaves but they are just going to have to get used to the HPS.
I'm affraid that doing a grow journal kinda puts a little stress into growing and I really don't like getting stressed, so I'll just sit back, let them get on with it and see what turns out ;)
love mand xxx:)
-
Just a little journal............
soo many pages to search through so ill just ask ;p
"have u had ne success with fruit peels ect.. if so please name some random stuff i can grab at grocery store :) "
-
Just a little journal............
Hello Brains :) I just saw you're thread asking about the fruit peels ;)
I'm not sure about just placing them on top of the compost love ?????
What I do is make my own compost, I have a compost heap at the bottom of the garden and basiclly everthing and anything that will "rot down" goes in it........... dead plants form the garden, grass cuttings, horse muck, vegatable peelings from the kitchen and yes sometimes the odd apple core or the little bit of fruit out of the fruit bowl that has seen better days ;)
However I just don't know what effect/difference it would make by placing them on the plant pots would do ????
Tell you what Brains, give it a go and see what happens, I couldn't imagaine it harming anything ..................... although I would be carefull of using citrus fruits as they can be quite acidy.
Good luck Brains if you try it be sure to let us know if it does anything ;)
love mand xxx:)
-
Just a little journal............
I can start a stash in my buddys garden this summer :)
for now I will try grinding bannana peels with water to almost a liquid and spike the soil with some bannana lol :P <-- does that sound stupid >.<
*ponders* I wouldnt mind some bananna tastin buddah
-
Just a little journal............
Hello again Brains :) ............. you never know what might happen untill you experiment so yes give it a go love ;)
Oh and let us know how it all works out :)
love mand xxx:)
-
Just a little journal............
scratch my last message someone replied to my thread saying ... same thing u basically said mand, I will just stick to wut people knows works... therefore not trying ;p
They will attract fruit flies and other insects, also the acidty in orange peel isn't a good idea.
Probably less of a problem with banana skins but they would still attract insects/fungus.
Best thing to do would be to make a compost heap in the garden/outdoors and chuck your peels in there and let them rot into the compost, untill your left with nice fresh compost that has been broken down properly and contains all the nutrients of the stuff you chucked in
Hope this has helped.
being in a "basement" insects are already a HUGE worry for me... "spider's and random things"
-
Just a little journal............
Ah yes Brains I never thought about it attracting the insects and bugs :o
If you do make a compost heap just make sure that it has all rotted down really well before use, that can take quite a while ;)
Oh and get a riddle and give it a good riddling out before use as well, removing all the lumps and larger pieces that get in there ;)
love mand xxx:)
-
Just a little journal............
Hello :) , Well one thing is for sure, this grow is definetely not going as planned :o
I'll just add a few pics, the first one is of the latest male to present himself, he was just on his way to the dustbin in that pic.
The second pic is of "little runty", a very strange looking plant that one, mind you to be honest I think all of them look a little odd/different from usual
The last pic is of the remaining seven and still not one female in sight, I'm sure they will make an appearence when their ready ;)
Oh and although there is still some droop present, they seem to be holding up reasonably well under the HPS :)
love mand xxx:)
-
Just a little journal............
Hello Fat Possum :) and thankyou very much love :)
It is really easy isn't it ...................... or should I say it's easy untill a problem crops up ;)
Thank FP .................. love mand xxx:)

Just a little journal............
Yeah I know what you mean Mand..
