Cheney accidentally shoots hunting partner
You're right on one point-- the situation you described is a very plausible way for an accident to happen that places blame squarely on the shoulders of the non-government figure. That doesn't mean it's what actually happened, though.
I figure Cheney had one too many dry martinis before going out to play machoman with his millionaire buddies, and just got careless. But god forbid we make guns look dangerous--or Cheney look incompetent-- so we make up some cover-up story placing the blame on the other guy, and making Cheney look like a good, responsible person.

Tyre. BOO!
LOL. Stupid fucking Americans.
It's not just the UK that uses the u but you never did say where you were from. Was that intentionally vague? Sorry, was I supposed to not notice? :D

Did YOU read the whole thread? I posted a link to a yahoo post that had an eyewitness saying that exact thing. She owns the ranch and was the one that reported it to the local paper.
Quote:
Whittington shot a bird and went to look for it in the tall grass, while Cheney and the third hunter walked to another spot and discovered a second covey.
Whittington "came up from behind the vice president and the other hunter and didn't signal them or indicate to them or announce himself," Armstrong said.
"The vice president didn't see him," she continued. "The covey flushed and the vice president picked out a bird and was following it and shot. And by god, Harry was in the line of fire and got peppered pretty good."
Maybe you've never hunted quail? ;)

Don't get me wrong, I don't doubt the plausibility of the situation the eyewitness described. All I'm questioning is whether or not that is what actually happened in this particular instance. Naturally, if asked kindly by the Secret Service to not tell the media the truth about the situation--whatever that truth may be--one would generally comply.
All I mean to say is that it strikes me as suspect that a gun accident involving the Vice President as the shooter is so neatly explained a way in a manner removing all blame from the VP. As I have never gone quail hunting, I don't know about the relative likelihood of this particular gunshot scenario compared to others, but it seems odd to me that the VP is relieved of all blame so easily-- especially when the Vice President's office waited a day to disclose this information. If the VP was really so blameless, what took them so long?
While the actions of Whittington may have been irresponsible, it also seems to me that someone holding a loaded shotgun should have the burden of being oriented in his surroundings, especially in relation to the other members of his party. It seems irresponsible to shoot a shotgun in any direction if you don't know where one member of your hunting party is.

That's just it, because it was a nothing of a story the only people that think it took a long time are those that know little to nothing about it. In other links to the story the owner of the 50k acre ranch said that she's even been peppered. I've been hunting quail for decades, I know people that it's happened to. Ever hear the expression, "making a mountain out of a molehill?" That's all this is. The sky is not falling. The only thing driving this non-story is hate and blame. ;)

To continue dragging it out is ridiculous though. You would think after 6 years in office a little common sense would prevail. When a triviality such as this arises you make a statement immediately and then make yourself available to answer ANY and ALL questions. It's the "oh this is NOTHING don't WORRY but we wont answer ANY more questions" that raises eyebrows. If it is indeed nothing make it public record and move the fuck on. I'm offended that the Bush Administration still, after everything that has happened, insists on censoring itself.
They're obviously playing their own little spin game which I guess is fine but it does a grave injustice to the American people. How many days now has our media been preoccupied with this story because they can't get any more info? Gee, might there be something important going on that we are MISSING?
Rocket-fucking-science.

Bullshit. I used to work 60 hour weeks and still made time for hunting. It can be done, you just have to get your priorities straight. ;)

That's a different thread but, yes, if the legislation rescheduled mj I'm confident that President Bush would sign it because he's trying to be the 2nd President to go 2 terms with no vetoes. It'll be part of his legacy.

Paranoid much? :D Were you upset when Harry Reid (D-NV) kept his stroke last year a secret for 3 days? I think not...

Bullshit, the retarded liberals are dragging this out, with their own spin game because they hate President Bush, nothing more. It's nothing more than Sore/Looserman2000 bitterness and jealousy revisited. Sour grapes, plain and simple.
