Ok, I'll preach. Parents who give their kids weed or booze or any other thing of that nature are flaming morons for a couple of reasons.

First and foremost, it's not their job to be your buddy it's their job to parent. Giving drugs to your kids is bad parenting because it some idiot trying to be the "cool mom" or "cool dad".

Secondly, there is no way in hell I would ever give my kid a tool like that to use against me the next time I tell them when to be home or where they can and can't go or take away their car keys. (the cars are mine, not theirs, I just let them use them) I have heard several stories of kids who have actually turned their parents in just to get even for chasing off their loser boyfriend or grounding little Timmy. And then there's the DARE program which encourages kids to rat out their parents.

And third...yes, I thought of a third reason, Liability. I have heard of idiot parents who have gotten kegs for their kids HS graduation parties. Oh they collected all the car keys etc etc etc...but you know damned well that if some of them wanted to leave, they'd find a way. And if one of the little fools OD's on the booze, or crashes in to a carload of soccer moms, the parents can and probably will get criminally prosecuted not to mentiond sued in to poverty.

I smoke with my dad... does that make him a loser? I don't think so... it's the kids responsibilty, not the parents. Well, ok no... I see what you're saying... actually. but fuck it, free weed.

No, it makes him a foole. Until you are 18 and or move out of the house, it is his responsibility, legally for sure and probably morally as well. I can't control my kids behavior when they are out hanging with their friends and I have told them as much. When they are not home I agree that they are responsible for their own behavior. But legally speaking, I can still be held liable for their actions especially if I am somehow contributing to it by getting them stoned. When I was 16 my dad could have given me a beer or two and no one would have cared. At 16 or 17 my folks did let me drink on special occasions like xmas or new years. In todays world that's just not the case.

I am responsible though... It's not like I'll go driving and fucking kill my friends. Plus, it's another one of those cases where it's "safer" to do it at home (My dads place, parents are divorced) then out where I could goof off... though my dad now knows that I don't. So is it so bad then? Nah. giving your kid drugs to go off and fuck around with is wrong, I agree... but to smoke with your parents?
