Is that a CFL dude ?
Yes. More pics...
430 Watt HPS I think? 430 watt... Bulb is in post 3...
Looks very nice to me, i take it you have some vents in there too ? I`ll look forward the the grow log dude. Nice job so far.
I have a vent for a bathroom. I put a plug on it for my regular powerstrip. I may just run it 24/7 to help with odor too. Or I do have an extra timer or 2 around...
Should I leave the light on 18/6?
18/6 for vegging is ok i guess, maybe you could shoot for 24/0 but 18/6 sounds better as you can cool the place down everyday.Quote:

I think I may do the 24/0 as I think the nutes and the bucket system make the plants able to take the stress. I am leaving the closet slightly open until the fan and exhaust fan are installed. I also have the light at about 20 inches since this is the 1st day under it.
seedlings are stretching more the light closer and very bad idea with that many plants together they will eventually tangle at the root and will die
I saw in pic in ur last thread the pllants need the light alot closer u might want to use a fluoro for the first week of the plants life maybe allittle longer, u can really get them light with out the burn. cause there so small that really have nothing to catch the light so they get even less then expected. but with a fluor you can practically touch the plants with the bulb (ofcourse not doing so)
I know I could shuffle lights around. I would prefer to raise the big light and have the flouro that I have for other uses. The stretching is from PRIOR to being under this light.
Im pretty pissed at this point about the 4 plants in one bucket situation. My local guy is out of the rocks that I need for my second bucket. (the round, tan ones). I am going to try to grow 2 in each bucket... after I pick them:) I may just end up removing 2 today as it is bugging the shit out of me! At what point will I be able to determine females/males? Should I grow all of them just in case I have to chop the males down...
After the light being on for about 30 minutes this morning, I can see some new growth. I can also see the larger leaves are yellowed slightly from the light yesterday. I have moved it up about 4 inches.
Until I vent the closet, I have just been leaving the door open. It needs a constant fan which I seem to have misplaced. Dammit!
I will keep a close eye on them...
hey i understand the stretching is from them being in a window but the HPS for vegging isnt doing them much better
either get a metal halide conversion bulb and use that or turn off the HPS till your ready to bud them and use several CFLs to veg them out
Vegging plants need more full spectrum (metal halide) lighting then red spectrum lighting (hps), at least if you want lavish green plants
other than that i see nothing wrong, what is the temp in there?
In reply to Dazed4now,
First I totally agree, on a deeper level, with your Signature.
Or maybe Im just High!
About the light... All these abbreviations... My guy showed me basically 3 options in these types of lights (no flouros). One of one type, one of the other, OR this bulb with all 3 colors. (I believe is how he put it). He is the only grow shop I know of in town and has a Perfect record and is a great source of knowledge. He also gave me the boxes
Here is the other bucket waiting on rocks...
call him and ask him if they have Metal Halide Conversion Bulbs (MH bulbs that are designed to run on HPS ballasts, so all you need is the bulb not the whole setup), if you can afford it then go pick it up, if you cant then go to walmart and find the biggest and best Compact Fluoroescent Light, get about 3 or 4 of those and use them to veg your plants out, then come time for flowering use your high pressure sodium which will finish the job.
see High pressure sodium emits more towards the red spectrum (which is why you have an orange glow) which is good when flowering your plants 12\12, but when they are still in the vegging stage 18\6 or 24hrs light (really doesnt matter) they need more full spectrum lighting than red spectrum, if you get a metal halide light you will notice the difference in how they grow, look, and perform
Everything looks cool but I would get that carpet out of there asap, its a sponge for bacteria , mites, molds , fungis ect..
Also I know alot of 20 year + growers that only use HPS thru veg and bud, but a " fuller" spectrum , aka MH or T5s will create faster, more dense - plants.
always nice to see ya waited until ya had your room completely ready b4 ya started!!!!! leaving door open really!,, preperation is everything in hydro!,, or was that cleanliness??,,,,anyway ya really should have the system complete and functioning properly ie heat control extraction b4 ya put a plant seed or tub of hydroton in place!
welcome to the world of endless possibilities,,,,,hydroponics!
Good day to you all. I am the same person as I was... Previously going under PHx. PHx is a friend of mine who used my computer, so when I would log in it would automatically go to that profile. After contacting Admin, Admin has told me to recreate my HighSeekerz profile, disable cookies, reboot, etc... Well, I have done that. I hope I can get into Chat! And now I have to work my way back up to 50 posts to add my sig back on!
Anyways, this evenings pics! Of the exhaust fan I had to dig out... It was hiding...
The rest of todays pics. You can see how I have positioned the plants since I got the rest of the rocks. These are the same 4 that I had started in the other pot. Now just 2 in each pot... The roots were about 1 inch longer than the rockwool, so I poked a hole through the rocks with the straw and was able to just guide it down in there without having to touch it at all. Both of them were still okay to move...
After being closed for an hour this time the temp is 97.7.
The humidity is 44%.
How do these numbers look?
Also, when should I add nutes? Right now there is a TOTAL of 1/4 tsp of each of the 3 GH products. What amount per gallon should I be at? How do I ADD it to the buckets???
to oregons dank, potency is with mh and hps is with density. how about using both for veg
Humidity is okay. If you can get it higher (just by keeping some containers full of water in there or whatever), some books say that increases the percentage of females, if you can get it to 70+ percent. Whether that's true or not, I dunno. 97.7 degrees F is not good though, yikes. Time to put some serious work into your ventilation system. Try to get the temps down to 85F at least, and lower if at all possible.
You should also kill off every plant except one in each pot. If their roots grow together, and you get a male, then what's your plan? If you hack off the male, its roots could (and likely would) start rotting and kill your females or at least infect them and hurt their potential. If you plan to just grow the males too, if you get any, and make seeds, then it makes some sense to just leave them there I guess. If your goal is seedless sensimilla, best to get it down to one plant per pot now before it's too late.
Wow that temp seems a little high, keep `em moist bro.
The temp in the closet is staying in the mid/upper 90s! I will have to improve the venting. I believe it is the ducting, not the exhaust fan... For the time being, I can keep it cooler by leaving the door open. I may just have to cut a hole through the sheetrock so I can vent right out the top above the door... OR, I may remove the door and cover the opening with cloth that breathes but will contain some of the light...
The humidity is showing 28%! Lots of water will have to be moved in somehow! Plus as soon as the plants get a little higher, I will remove some of the rock around the bubblers. I think that will generate some humidity...
HOWEVER, all this being said, the plants are alive and the leaves are green. The next set that is coming out is about 1/16th of an inch above the first set. That set, even as delicate as they can be, is not burning up...
My 1st recommendation to ANY new grower would be to buy a light that is NOT hot! For one, you cannot contain the heat. And two, you better be able to vent it! There is no way I would recommend this setup to anyone planning on doing any serious growing... I am sure my electric bill is going to be sky high. Mainly due to the heat. Fortunately we are going into the winter! I will cover the light output and utilize the heat:) Before I grow in the summer (in hot climate), I will definitely go to flouro (or something cooler).
Stay Cool! hehe... Chow!!!
This is how the plants look after a day in the HEAT...
This is where I moved the exhaust fan to.
The temp with the door open is about 88. Humidity still 27%...
#1. These lights are so bright, you cannot conceal them. Do not use a closet within site of any doors or windows!
#2. This 430 watt light is designed for a slightly larger area. I will have to do some major ventilation, but I think that I CAN make it work. I think it would be ideal for an area the size of a washer and dryer with a regular dryer vent. (But still too hot).
As to the number of plants, root concerns, etc... I think I am going to wing it for now. See how the plants do. If/when I do get a good KNOWN female, I will take cuttings for clones. I would like to grow a Mom in soil. Will she keep living and living and living or will I have to keep harvesting her? Also, the way the pots seperate, I think I will be down to 2 before I get any root problems. I would NOT recommend these type pots for anyone as they are TOO big for one plant and too small for 2. I like the square ones...
Well, another day has begun. The plants look healthy to me and the second set of leaves grew from tiny sprouts to about 3/4 inch long yesterday on a couple of the plants. And the leaves are not burning up...
The temp is running in the upper 90s. I am leaving the door open ... I will purchase another of the bathroom exhaust fan for temp control.
I dont really see any way of getting the humidity up much. To keep the heat down, I have to cycle so much air OUT of the closet that no moisture I add is going to stay in there. I put a 13x11 glass dish of water in there and it didnt change the humidity at all...
I have been surprised not to get more replies or suggestions. It is difficult to search the boards for a scenario that exactly matches yours and by the time you have found it, your shit is dead.
To all you old Growers... Sorry to be such a pain in the ass as a Newbie.
To all you Newbies... Use THREE resources. 1. Your local grow supplier. 2. The internet. 3. Books. You will need all 3!
To the Cops... If you aren't here in the next 10 minutes, you wont find anything. But just in case you are looking, I keep one glass piece and less than a 10 grams of smoke around IF ANY. I reup whenever I want through about 10 possible sources. Mexican weed, but it gets you high...
I am yanking the plants because I fear the electric bill will be sky high. I also dont need Police problems and I am not in an Ideal grom situation. BUT, by going through this process, I know better what I will need to possibly grow in the future. Who knows, maybe I will order some seeds soon!
Out~
if your only growing four plants u should of looked into the aero four ,it alot cheaper then that drip system u have , but other than that it looks good ,make sure u have good vent and cant wait to see some harvest pics in 8 weeks !!!!
I couldn't kill them... So I moved them under the flouro lights for now. They have greened up nicely and are putting on leaf growth. I am having fun with them and learning lots!!! I still have the nutes UNDER 1/4 strength. I am raising them slowly as I add water. I think they probably could be way higher...
These are new pics. I have the flouro pushed back because the light screws up the flash, etc...
Here are more from the same time...
And plants 2, 3 and 4...
Let me know what you think!
Oh well. I see no comments. That must mean that noone had any bad opinions... I did a water change last night and raised the nutes to 2/1/1 ratios and added the dechlorinator. I also let the water sit for awhile to get to room temp before I put it on the roots... This AM the plants look REALLY good and healthy. Nice green leaves. Thick stalks...
When will I be able to determine sex?
3-6 weeks after sprout, the preflowers should either show hairs or bananas. Depends on the strain, so just be patient. I know, it's hard, I'm in the same boat, but got two confirmed females now (out of 5 plants), and no bananas on the other three, so they're likely female too...but I'll wait until I see hairs to be sure before I transplant them to a bigger pot.
There are other ways to determine sex too, like taking a clone and flowering that, or putting a completely opaque black baggy around one stalk to flower just that stalk. Or just flowering your plants, of course, once they have calyxes. But I just wait 'em out, personally. ;)
nice work sorting out ur problems dude.
ull be suprised how much marijuana can take before itl die.
hang in ther and ull be fine ;)
ur first few grows are always a learning curve
these plants should come up quite nice if u sort out ur ventilation
THANKS for the comments! They do give some encouragement!
I can see at each little leaf two tiny little prongs sticking out on the top...
I would say they are about 10 days old or so...
I added two more 48 inch flourescent bulbs. 40 watt Plant/Aquarium bulbs in an extra shop light I had in my storage. So now I have 4 - 4 ft Flouro bulbs. I will add the 430 HPS back when it is time. After the plants are WAY BIGGER. And use the flouros on the front and back or sides...
I cannot use that 430 watt light in the closet I was intending to... It is just too hot.
Why can't I just grow it my bedroom? 18/6 then 12/12?
This mornings pics. Just a couple so you can see the size and color...
Is the close up the BANANAS??? Isn't it too early to tell?
Not bananas, looks like that's just some new shoots getting ready to grow out. Probably still too young to be exhibiting any signs of sex.
Thanks Jam! Yes, they have come out as small leaves...
This Mornings pics...
