NEWB,1st GROW, THOUGHT I'D SHARE EXPERIENCE W/ OTHERS FOR INPUT!
DAY 1
alright, finally am ready to get started w/ this grow.. i've been waiting a long time to do this, and I am pretty confident that it will go good. I've learned so much from this site, and a bunch of eBooks that i found. Just want to say thanks for everyone that is always on here ready to answer any questions, and just give advise..
But anyways, I've got everything set up except for Mylar, but that will be there in the next photos that you see.
I got my seeds yesterday from Nirvana, 10 white widow ( WW ) and 10 northern lights ( NL )..
Decided to go w/ the propagation tray method to germinate, in peat pellets.
Filled tray w/ 2 quarts of water mixed w/ 1/8 tspn of SuperThrive, to blow up the pellets, and then drained off excess water..
placed 6 WW ( row w/ toothpick ) and 6 NL in pellets, and placed dome ontop.
left them in the closet all night w/ the lights turned on, got some cheap light fixtures at HomeDepot yesterday, w/ 2 Phillips 75 watt indoor Grow Lights (20,000 lumens ) not really sure if they should have light turned on or off, so after 12 hours on i turned off, (figured i would replicate the outdoors.) if anyone knows how long i should leave on or off for the next few days, i would really appreciate your input.
got some other stuff from WalMart called Alaska Fish Fertilizer, says it is " all purpose deodorized fish emulsion " ( 5-1-1 ).. anyone ever use, and if so what were the results?
but anyways, will post more pics tomorrow even if nothing happens just to update, hope to have a great grow...
thanks again for everyones help and advise..

For veg...18 hours on/6 hours off. When your ready to flower. Switch to 12/12.
Make sure you don't interupt the dark cycle and make sure it is pit black(no light leaks) Or your plants can hermie and pollenate your buds. turns them into seeds.
So 18/6 or 24/0 works for the veg period.
-
NEWB,1st GROW, THOUGHT I'D SHARE EXPERIENCE W/ OTHERS FOR INPUT!
I'll never understand why everyone perpetuates this myth of 'total darkness' ... I have NEVER had a lightrpoof cabinet, and I have NEVER had a hermie, and only 2 males out of what, 200 plants ??? ... I guess your world doesnt have moon and stars ...
-
NEWB,1st GROW, THOUGHT I'D SHARE EXPERIENCE W/ OTHERS FOR INPUT!
during the germination stage though, from just putting the seeds into the peat pellets, how long should i leave the lights on for? 18/6? i read in the grow bible that you should leave on for 24/0, know anything about that?

let me go ahead and say im havin the exact same problem with germin..how long lite or cancfl 100w natural and 1is on heat 100wcfl plese any advice would gladly b appreci..
-
NEWB,1st GROW, THOUGHT I'D SHARE EXPERIENCE W/ OTHERS FOR INPUT!
germination is better in dark, the taproot is sensitive to light, but should be warm, ... after it sprouts, and goes into soil, run lights 24 hours for a few days ... once they start pushing leaves, turn back to 18 hours .. you will now read lots of posts recommending 24 hour light all the time ... there is one camp that says 18/6 is better, because the plant needs darkness to process nutrients, and regulate photosynthesis (they are right, in my opinion) ... others claim 24 hours is the hot ticket (they are confused, stoned children) ...:D ... just teasing ... :smokin:

hey i appreciate it reaper... turned everything off, going to go and buy heat pad and place underneath it tonight.. i've been reading a bunch of things about the 24/0, but like you said it does make sense that for photosynthesis to take place naturally, you do need some darkness..... but that's a ways down the road, going to read up as much as possible on 24/0 vs 18/6..
thanks again!

NEWB,1st GROW, THOUGHT I'D SHARE EXPERIENCE W/ OTHERS FOR INPUT!
I sometimes tease too much, never mean any offense ;) ... there are two schools of thought on the 18/6 and 24/0, the 24 will grow plants, obviously, because there are some growers that swear by it, I try to only speak of what has been 'tried-and-true' in my own experiences ... Im not likely to even mention cloning, or hydro, as I have little experience with the one, and none with the other ... I'm just an old dirt farmer ... the cool thing about growing, is how you get so involved and concerned about your plants ... my only problems have been caused by 'over-helping' my plants .. too much nutrients, too much water, ... your plants will let you know when they are in need of something, you will be able to research the answers here ... these Forums are great, we didnt have anything like this in the Dark Ages ... Mel Frank and Ed Rosenthal's first book was a God-send to us, and amazing how right-on they were, even back then  ... don't get frustrated with grow problems, each and every grow will probably be greatly improved from the prior ones ... something to look forward to ... :smokin:

DAY 2
whats going on everyone, about to leave for work, but wanted to smoke a bowl, and update w/ little changes..
last night since i dont have a heat pad, i placed two bowls of boiling water inside the dome and closed it for about 30 mins, and also poured boiling water onto a towel, and placed that towel in plastic bags, and placed underneath the tray..
i am hoping that it helped bring the humidity up some, and warm the pellets a little..
i think i have a white widow that is trying to sprout ( the one in the very back row w/ the toothpick ), and one of the northern lights as well ( second to last in left row ) .. i'm starting to see like a little white dot in the dirt, and that's the only thing i can think it is, unless some dirt or dust got in there..
will update w/ more later. got to go

I say that about the darkness from experience. Some more stable strains will not hermie if there is a light leak. But alot of F1's will with a light leak. Indoors is way different then growing outdoors with the sun and the moon. I've done both and outdoors is way easier in my opinion. But indoors they seem to be more sensitive(like to light leaks)Since they have been taken out of there element. I just suggest the darkness for beginers because hermies can be very discouraging. And if it can be avoided, why not?

NEWB,1st GROW, THOUGHT I'D SHARE EXPERIENCE W/ OTHERS FOR INPUT!
what up everyone... just got home from work, and went to check on my little ladies, and 2 NL's have popped up from the soil..
so that means that 2 of 12 are out of the soil, i've left them in the dark, and tried to apply as much heat as possible..
****now do i want to turn the light on for these that have sprouted, or do i still want to leave them turned off?
i've giving the pellets very small amounts of water, not directly on pellets but in the tray, so that they can absorb from the bottom..
****should i let those 2 that have sprouted stay in the tray longer or should i move them to dirt yet..
i really need knowlegeable answers to these questions, and hope someone knows.. ( i am sure you'll do )
just want to say thanks again...
-
NEWB,1st GROW, THOUGHT I'D SHARE EXPERIENCE W/ OTHERS FOR INPUT!
alright.. i've got 3 that have budded so far..
2 x NL
1 x WW
think that i may have over watered them though.. the pellets are full of water..... went ahead and put the 3 sprouts under real weak light, 2 75w Phillips Indoor bulb, and moved the propagation tray to other side of closet and placed a dark sheet ontop to keep it in the dark..
going to get my mylar tomorrow according to ups, so tomorrow going to wrap the room in it, and set up the light..
been reading bunch of threads out there, everyone's got some beautiful plants, even the ones that are withering still are so beautiful..
but anyways, just wanted to say thanks again to everyone for any advice..
PEACE!

NEWB,1st GROW, THOUGHT I'D SHARE EXPERIENCE W/ OTHERS FOR INPUT!
what up everyone !
shit , so i am 4 days into the grow, and plants arent really booming like i wanted them to.. i got 2 NL's that are looking good, but not one single WW has really shot up any green leaves...
is it still too early for seeds to have germinated in the peat pellets, and i am just too anxious, or could something be wrong?
i am keep them moist, and in the propagation tray w/ humidity dome.. took them out of the grow room, and placed in another dark place in the house..
dont know if i should try and dig up the seeds from the peat pellets or what? where are all the experts at, no one wants to read thread or answer questions..
i know i ask alot, and you'll always say to read the forumn, and i do, but the best way that i learn ( other than experience ) is from someone teaching me..
i have invested over 500 bucks into this grow, and just dont want to fuck shit up, that is why i am so adoment (spelling?) about these things..
well anyways, i finally got mylar, going to pin it up real good tomorrow, just taped up right now.. but looks nice... check out pics..
someone please answer question about what i should do w/ my 8 remaining peat pellets, whether i should leave alone, or dig out seeds and maybe put n paper towels, or straight into soil????
anyways,
THANKS!

looking back at my thread now, i think it still may be too soon for them all to sprout, and i'm just too anxious! ( i hope anyway )
got a major heat issue though in the closet, can't cut any holes in walls, and if i leave the door open losing light!
checked out ebay and found a small a/c unit, that you put water in, for around 45 bucks ..plus shipping of course.
but anyways, plan on having a good grow, keep checking me out!
oh yeah, i've been superthriving these bitches kinda alot! almost every time i water them, not alot, maybe a drop or two, but yeah they're getting it almost everyday in small doses right now..
damn 1000w light if f-ing BRIGHT AND HOT!
anyways,
holla @ ya!
Peace!

ALRIGHTY..... I am 100% up and running.. got my mylar on the walls, light is going, fans are blowing, and plants are growing ( i hope )....
so anyways, I am a semi-happy camper at how things are moving along here.. I think i should have gone w/ the paper towel method to germinate these bitches, instead of propagation tray.. but you live and you learn..
I still got 4 more WW that need to sprout, and 1 NL...
hopefully soon.. dont understand why these WW's are not doing as good as my NL's?
I sure do hope to learn a lot from this, but I hope I come out w/ somewhere close to 16 oz ( 1 lb ) at the end all this..
12 plants, and then depending on how many females I have?? we'll see?
I do not understand why these experts dont look at my threads? I know i ask alot of questions, and you all want everyone to read ( which I do ) , but it's just that I learn alot better from other peoples experience, and being told what I need to do.. guess my comprhension is not too good?
but anyways, I really would like some feedback from you pro's or semi-pro's, your advice, your input on what is looking right and where i need to make changes..
but anyways, here are my latest pics..
PEACE!

shit so things are moving, these WW are having such a hard time growing.. the NL's are doing real nice right now it seems like.
we'll see what happens w/ them...
so here are a couple of pics I've taken these past 2 days, and have not been able to upload b/c they were to big..
thanks to orangeman, i now know how to make smaller.. going to take more when something changes..

oh... also on one of my plants, (the middle one on the right in picture on top ), on the bottom of the stem it's twisted.. is this abnormal, will it cause issues down the road..
what should i do about it?
-
NEWB,1st GROW, THOUGHT I'D SHARE EXPERIENCE W/ OTHERS FOR INPUT!
Im not telling you im right, but IMO, those plants are infants.. for about the first week i use 2 2' flouros on 24/7. And as i am not a fan of high electric bills i only use flourescent bulbs, be them 4' flouros or cfls (of various watts spectrums and lumens), but even then i only use those 2 2' lamps... i didn't unleash hells fury on my child when she was born, so i figure natures wants folks to be gentle with of existances new additions.
I just think it may be a little bit early to unleash the big dog right now. and if you spent $20 getting a couple flouros it would be cool enough to place several inches above the sprouts and the light would be evenly spread enough to get them on the road to greatness.
that beez what it would dat id do

alright, i may try that.. i'm using these 2 75watt Phillips indoor lights 12 hours out of the day, they any good, or should i just get flouresents..
wal-mart has got like 18 2ft indoor plant flourecents, w/ bulb....those any good?
check out those 2 lights, they any good?

everyone keeps saying that it's too much power.. think i may go and get some flourescent lights tonight, and let them feed off that for another week or two..
we'll see what happens, i'll post pics 4 sure..
-
NEWB,1st GROW, THOUGHT I'D SHARE EXPERIENCE W/ OTHERS FOR INPUT!
yeah bro, i got mine from wally world just like that. $10 ea. right? I just took of that plastic cover, strung 2 of them up together with some nylon and viola! I think a week should do it on 24/7. After that if you still want to give them flourescent light but not so much of it then switch to 18/6. 12 hours of light a day only is what you want when you have completed your desired height and size of you plant and you want to induce flowering. again IMO.
make sure that you hang those flouros pretty close to those plants now, after a week you'll see they have become aquainted with the world and then you can let em roll with that big dog HPS rig of yours. although for height and positioning of it I can be no use to you. lo siento amigo.

oh well Opie, I did.. you live and you learn, what can I say? now i know though, thanks to you, so thank you!
anyways, not too much has changed.. going to water the plants today w/ some superthrive, hopefully they like it..
got a flourescent light last night from WalMart, and hung it up today right above the plants...i'd take pictures, but I have a huge piece of black plastic on the door to keep out air.. ( have to bomb my house today for flea's, DAMN DOG! )
but yeah, tonight will post some pics, just wanted to drop a line...

You can use any light for seedlings and cloning. If it is powerful though, like 1000 watts, you need to keep it way back. You want them to concentrate on root development at this stage, not photosythisis.
-
NEWB,1st GROW, THOUGHT I'D SHARE EXPERIENCE W/ OTHERS FOR INPUT!
yeah , bunch of peoplle have been telling me i shouldn't use the 1000w for a little while..
last night went out and bought a cheap flourescent fixture, for growing indoor plants, and i already had the 2 in the corner.. they have 75w Phillips Indoor Grow bulbs....
so you got any ideas on good stimulation for the roots? i saw at home depot some root stimulator, but it was for roses i beleive.. .would that work?
any idea's would be helpful..???
FYI... the 3 pots in the far back left row all have seeds that were in peat pellets inside a humidity dome that never sprouted...
broke the peat pellets open real gently, and all 3 seeds had sprouted from shell, just never grew a stem above the surface..
but anyways, took the popped seed out real gently, and placed in some soil...
we'll see....
I also started germinating 2 more white widow seeds last night in paper towels sealed inside a sealed tuppaware..
so hopefully we'll be adding 2 more white widow here soon...
white widow is having the most trouble growing in my small to be garden.. wonder why???
but anyways.. i appreciate everyone's help and advice on everything..

and now.... those 2 WW seeds i placed in paper towel yesterday, have about a 1 inch root hanging out.. :D
about to run to the handy dandy walmart to pick up some more pots for those 2 little girls, and 2 more flourescent lights...
now in 2 of my other lights, i have 2 75w Phillips Indoor Plant bulbs, should i get some CFL's for in there?
probobly will...
anyways, any input or advice is greatly appreciated.!

hey what stage of the plants lifecycle is nitrogen needed more?
got this stuff i bought a while back called all purpose deodorized fish emulsion " ( 5-1-1 ), was wondering when i should use.. plants seem to be growing a little slow.. anyone got any ideas, maybe i am just impatient.?

definitely the veg. cycle. You will see a difference with the fish emulsion, good stuff. Just keep your dog, cat, etc. away from the plants...they love it:dance: .
