My plant is about 30 days old and has been on 18/6 all the way through. I had the plant under 2 40watt fluros (2 inch away) for the first 25 days and I just switched to 2 fluorex's @ 65w (2 inch away). It just started growing the seventh set of leaves and is still not much taller than a lighter. I fed it nutes once about a week ago.
All comments/criticizims/tips are welcome.
BTW: This is the first plant I've ever grown and I want to do my best make is a success.
Hopefully the pics load O.K.
Cheers :)

it's looking pretty good. it looks like it's going to be really bushy. so if you let it grow long enough, you should get a decent yeild from it. it looks healthy though. i don't know much about nutes so i can't really help you there. but good luck with this if it's your first grow. it's going good. good luck the rest of the way.

Plant looks good.... small. Get as many lights on that as you can. Go hit up home depot and grab some fluros. The health of the plant appears to be good. Lights would make a world of difference and you can pick up a 250 watt hps on ebay for less than a 100 bucks. Good luck

thanks weedracer. I wish I knew the strain of it (part of HGS Super Mix I got from highgrade) so i'ts one of the 6 superstrains. From what I can tell it's looks to be more like an indica strain but who knows. Yeah I'll probably be vegging it for a while yet as I want to get the most out of it. I'm crossing my fingers that it will be female.

jett....
interesting paradox you have growing here....
1. a 30 day old indoor plant should be 4 times the size of that one. AT LEAST.
2. Your slow growth is not indicative of light failure, as there is ZERO stretching.
So we have unreasonably short growth / age ratio....yet....a beautiful, tight, compact plant that has already started healthy secondaries on first and second nodes...maybe more, i cant see so well anymore. I am stoned.
Interesting situation......
I dont think there is any doubt as to it being Indica...
But why the midget status? Some possible scenarios or causes that I can think of:
1. Static stale air. SOmetimes hot stale air will simply stunt a plant. Not kill or burn...just stunt.
Was she ever exposed to life without a fan?
2. Genetic Runt. Hey it happens to people, cats, dogs, cucumbers, corn stalks, guys' penises....it could happen to weed
3. WRONG COLOR TEMP BULB... I know of plants that simply need 6500K or they wont respond. Plain and simple. Even if you were to place the plant outside, it wouldn't respond in any many other than being a runt.
The sunlight will produce about a Kelvin of 5800. By going to 6500K, many times I understand you can force the runt to accelerate growth by using the combined increased solar spectrum and lighting period.
So here is how I see it....
Assuming this is not some exotic strain that grows slow for 30 days, then WHAM! takes off growing like wildfire....
You have a nice healthy plant. At her growth rate you will have to veg her for many months more to get some good yeild.
You can wait it out. Keep in mind....the longer you grow her....the more things you will need to do to keep her thriving....as plants age, their nutritional status changes as does the nutrient content of the soil....the more adding of nutes is what will be required and thats where almost all growers that fail after 30 days messed up.
You can try raising the color temperature of your bulbs....to do this will cost you about $50 - $60.........You dont buy these bulbs at your local supermarket or hardware store......yet....and they dont cost $15 - $25 ....
What is the kelvin of your current bulbs?
FUck man I just realized i typed a frickin book here and i am too wasted to follow my own train of thought... :D
sorry bro but i lost it.
Hope you can pick some sense outta my book here...didnt mean to bable on like that....
your plant is nice and pretty and i am just saying you can wait it out....or make a change....
if you choose change....i would buy the right light and start giving her superthrive.
I would love to see her spurt on you....

HARDDON : You shouldn't say the light isnt the problem, even though his plant is that size for 30 days old, the only thing I can think of is his light.. His light cant be that powerfull if that is a 30day old plant, it would only stretch if his light was way above his seedling.
If it's not the light, I would agree with HARDDON on the stale air, I would deeply suggest a fan for your plant.
NochowderForYou : Yes, HARDDON always *helps* people with there projects before we get to, MJ is tough to grow for some with little knowledge so HARDDON has to be a sexy beast with them, as you can clearly see :D.

-
Please Critique my little plant
I didnt necessarily say light isnt the problem.
If you read my post, I elaborate on possible light being the problem and went so far as to discuss getting 6500K lighting.
Lighting was one of my big possiblities as per the spectrum.
I disagree with the comment the light could be shitty only if it was too high.
That plant has secondary growth already happening despite the small size. Poor light placement wont allow that to happen.

I've had a fan blowing on it since it was 6 days old. I have a window open in the bedroom with the closet at all times so it should be getting fresh air. The temp is about 75. I know that the light spectrum of the fluorex's I just put in are 6500k. The fluro's I had it under I'm not to sure of the spectrum. They were philips econowatt (I thought they were 40w but they were actually 34watt). The fluorex seems to have more of a bluish tinge to them than the fluro's. Since I've put the plant under the fluorex it's grown faster. There are secondary growth shoots showing at every internode and they werent there before I put it under the fluorex and it is now on it's eighth set of leaves.
Do you think my plant is so small because it's been in a 5 gallon pot since day 1? Too much time building roots,
Should I bend or top the plant?

Poor light and way too big of a pot.
Yes I think those both would play a role.
I wouldnt top, bend, or otherwise assault her until she is much bigger....let her get some traction on growth with your new light.
Those secondaries will die off or produce some tiny itsy bitsy bud.....if you let it grow bigger......
Its the top secondaries you wanna get growing....but I wouldnt mess with her right now.
Let her grow and when she's cranking it out at about 1/2 inch a day, then you might want to revisit the issue.

Also the plant has had abnormal leaf# growth (1 ,3 ,3/4 ,4 ,5 ,5/6 ,7 ,7) I have a mutant!!! . I just took a peek at her and I can see another set of leaves emerging (#9). The flourex seems to have increased my growth rate a lot.
Would it be wise to give it nutrients again. I have 20-20-20 with micronutrients (0.1%iron, 0.05% maganese, 0.05% zinc, 0.05%copper). on the container it shows different mixtures depending on whether it's in a garden or a house plant and I don't know which directions to follow. The dosages are quite different: for gardens 4 ml per liter and for houseplants 6 ml per 5 liters. I gave the plant a half strength of the houseplant directions which was very hard to measure cause I wasnt dealing with 5 liters of water. Maybe this is not enough.
Maybe I should stretch the plant for a bit by increasing the distance from the lights for a few days or would this be a bad idea?
I really appreciate your help harddon. You are truly an asset to our cannabis growing community!

maybe all this time the plant has just been filling up the pot with roots...I bet if you throw 50 dollars worth of fluro lights on it you will see a great improvement in growth. Or you could spend about 150 on ebay get a 400 watt HPS and really turn it into a PLANT. Like I said before plant looks great....but I bet some light would give it a huge growth spurt....root system is probably excellent. It does kinda look like lowrider....but hey light never hurts anything!! Good luck man

Leave her alone for a bit.
Whatever nutes have been given havent been used yet....not all anyhow.....
If she is indeed accellerating her growth rate, leave her alone. If it isn't broke dont fix it.
MJ Plants are like kids...if they are quiet and behaving, leave them alone... :)
However, take specific measurements of her now and every 24 hours and advise the community of the growth rate.
Lowryder or not, we need to get her pushing nutes up the plant and growing new foilage.
Keep daily accurate measurements and let us know.
Thanks for the compliments....I am just returning what I have been given... :)

Hey krippy. I have 4 fluorex lights (65w 4550 phototropic lumens each) but I cant figure out a way to have more than 2 of them on the plant without raising the lights up a lot. I'll have to wait until it gets taller. Right now an hps is out of the question as I'm extremely low on $ but I would really like one for flowering. I think I'll be o.k for a while with the lights that I've got. I realize that this will give me a low yield but this first grow is more of a learning experience. I've been watering from the bottom so I'm guessing that the root system is probably huge compared to the plant.
Here's a couple pics I just took. 1 is of the new leaves forming that wasn't there yesterday and 1 of the secondary growth (sorry they're a little blurry but I can't get my cam to focus properly.

I'll take your advice harddon and leave it alone for now and try to take measurments of it every day or so and I'll post pics whenever I feel necessary. The plant is really starting to smell also. When I inspect the leaves and then smell my fingers it almost makes my mouth water.
If the plant does turn out to be a male is there any way to force it into being a hermie ? I herd you can force a female into hermie with stress/changing light cycles.
I think I'll buy some superthrive also. Is there a particular place to get it (walmart/homedepot)?
Btw harddon congrats on 1600 posts!!

When your at home depot check out the fluro lights....you can get everything you need for like 25 bucks or less. Even 2 more sets of fluros would help. Also I dont remember if you had any reflective materials. If you dont the cheapest thing you can get would be emergency blankets. I think they are less than 2 dollars each. You will probably need a minimum of 2. Proobably go with 3 because since you have such little light....I would take one blanket and cut it into sections and carefully STRESSING CAREFULLY put it around the soil and under the plant....I mean we are desperate for light here. You can also check out big lots....sometimes they have deals on those spiral fluro lights. Be careful though as not all of them are good for growing. Besides its the cheapest alternative to the true CFL which run about 60 bucks complete. Bu we are working in a budget. But hey man you get an A for effort!!! Also if your fluros that are on it now are old...replace them. And check and make sure you have the COOL BLUE on it for vegging. Dont waste money on the ones that say for plants.....just the cheap cool blues. Keep us updated. I know you can get a tiny clamp reflecor and a cheap bulb for about 10 bucs....I bought a couple ....I used em for the seedlings. Hope this helps a little

I've put some styrofoam pieces on the soil to help reflect light and it seems to be working O.K. In the last 3 days the plant has grown a little more than 1/2 inch in height and the leaf span went from 8in to 10.5in. There are new sets of leaves forming and secondary growth is coming along nicely. A couple leaves are gettin brown tips/spots but other than that it looks healthy. Soil ph is 6.9 and I try to keep the moisture level at 6.
Will I be albe to tell the sex of the plant before I change the light cycle? I know that a male plant has no THC but does it have any other cannabonoids(sp?) in the leaves?
More updates to come....

I just love that little fatty...You asked about a way of getting more than 2 of your lamps on them...Suggestion put them horizontally on all four sides, if they are in hoods, tilt hoods @45deg on 4 sides.
Just hangin there that plant looks good and I agree w/H that it will pick up, and it is so tight...Cool
PS...Try and get ph down to 6.5!!!

Jetazzzz...
I would:
Continue your current regiment.
1/2" in 3 days is not bad......you would like to get it to 1/2" a day....
Keep on tracking her.......
Sometimes, you will be able to see pre-flowers for the females...sometimes you wont. Just the luck of the draw it seems.
A male plant can be smoked......it can get you high......
But only use it for getting high if you have no other smoking materials....its not a very good buzz.....but you can get stoned off it...no doubt.
I don't ever test the soil pH.
Good grow soil already is set at an acidic value......I just water it with 6.8 adjusted water and the soil pH tends to itself.
Looking good if not slow, but coming along.....
Keep tracking and updates......

Great News!! Since my last measurment 2 days ago the plant has grown almost another 2 inches in height (but it's still only a little under 6in tall) and the leaf span is now 12in :D . The plant seems to be needing water every 2 days. Secondary growth is still coming along good as I can barely see the stem looking at it from the side. The stem is about as big as 1 1/4 pencils around. I accidentally tore off the tip of one of the older/lower leaves while I was either measuring or taking pictures  but I think I'll be O.K.
Some of the leaves seem to be getting a "crystal like" substance appearing that I can see with the light shining on the leaves but I'm sure it's not THC. Should I be worried about this or is it quite normal? I can't get it to show up in a picture as the crystalization is very minor.
Hope you like the pics,

Plant is now 8 1/4 tall . Some of the very bottom fanleaves look like they are drying up and dying and I dont know why. I think I will change the light cycle to 12/12 when the plant reaches a foot tall.
I read somewhere that you should put a plant in 36 hours of darkness before switching to 12/12, anybody do this? If so why would you.
I included a few pics for comments/criticizims,
hope you enjoy :)

If you are going for a full plant grow with good yeild, she is not anywhere ready to flower yet. She still needs to grow to at least and one and one half feet.
As for the 36 hour dark period....never heard that one before.
I wouldnt do as I havent read anything from anyone I trust recommending that.
You plant is very small for 42 days.
But she looks very healthy.
Those leaves at the bottom are drying out probably as a result of being in the dirt when watering. It happens all the time...they just dont like the dirt and shit on the leaf tips.
Even my sog grow leaves do the same tning...worry not.
She looks great....
If you wanna do her a real favor, start feeding her some SuperThrive and get another dosage of light on her.
Or, fix you grow room so you use more of the light you are using.
WTF are the golf clubs for?
The males ? :) :) :)

O.K, I thought the lower leaves might be dying from overfertilization or something like that.
On dr.greenthumbs website they show height/yeild specifications for some of his seeds based on flowering plants at 12inches with 36 hour dark period at onset of flowering, I'd never heard of it before coming across that website so maybe I'll take a miss on that one. I'm planning on getting a 250w hps when I get my next paycheque which I'll be using for flowering.
As for the golf clubs I just havent completely emptyed my closet out (lol) I guess it wouldn't hurt to take them out now. Honesty I didn't really plan on the plant actually surviving at the start so I didn't go all out when prepping my closet properly to begin with.

This morning I went and looked at my plant as I always do every morning and I found some white hairs emerging, I'm so happy :D
Unfortunately I've found a couple bugs flying around in my closet a couple days ago so I got some johnson&johnson baby shampoo and sprayed the entire plant. Hopefully it will be O.K. Plant is now 14.5 inches tall. I'm switching to 12/12 today now that I know it's female. The first pic is of the plant and you can see the 2 white hairs if you look closely. Second pic is of another plant that I started a few weeks ago, it is also female and appears to be mostly sativa.

I think you need more lumens(sunlight), and more nitrogen in your nutes.
These clones are only three weeks old. They are about 14 in tall now. :D
I'm using 1 tsp GH Maxigrow and 1/4 tsp Superthrive per Gallon during growth. I use 2 tsp GH Kool Bloom with 1/2 tsp Superthrive during bloom. I like sunlight.. but if not use a 400+W HPS Bulb during bloom, 250W Metal Halide during growth. Its based on the area you are covering with the light. ;)

My little plant is starting to look real bad, .I've tried epsom salts, superthrive and bought a water filter and nothing is helping. This is only happening to the fan leaves so far, no secondary leaves are looking like this however the odd one dries up and falls off.
I also have some pics of my "healther" plant that I'll put in the next post, it is 20in tall now, I'm starting to see tips of the leaves getting yellow/brown and I dont know why. Every day there's a few tiny leaves that shrivvel up and die, is this normal?
