I thought that all strains like fluro`s aslong as its light they will grow?? sorry if it were no help just thought id tell u what i thought :)!
peace
Thanks for the thought, must hard to let them out on their own. 'Suggestions from experience' obviously wasn't clear enough. But as most posts on here seem to be from twelve year olds that can't be bothered reading a book I'll write it so an adults can understand.
Suggestions from experience welcome.
Hope ur not trying to say im 12 years old cause im not :D! i just posted what i thought and what i have read in different places?!
so give me a list of plants that thrive on fluroesent lighting,,sounds much more cost affective than HPS. which costs a bomb...or does it
fluoresent lights don't offer the best light spectrum for cannabis growing because the poor CRI ratings...
I'm sure someone will understand the question eventually.
hey there, i think most indica strains like fluro, mine are growing under fluro atm there growing nice they are getting nice and potent becuase iv just changed them to 12/12 il keep u updated :)
Thanks Proof
Every feel like you're talking to a brick.
Only strain I've tried under flourecents is White Widow. Four 42watt compact flourecents. The plants are thriving with lush green growth. It is a sativa/indica hybrid I know, but I am going to try some more pure sativa strains next.
I knew if I waited long enough I'd get an answer from someone who knows what they're talking about. I'm aiming for a shorter indoor hybrid that's mostly sativa. I've grown Widow under MH before, let me know how it goes with compact fluoros. Thanks
peace
HvyFuel my strains are sativa im yet to find out what kind they are though, iv bein budding them since wednesday now there showing some sex pistols but no buds are showing as it is early days :(! the fluro`s seem to be working nice and well il keep u updated
p.s anyone know where to get a cheap digi cam ???
Listen man, floros have a maximum effective range of 10". Period. Sativa's grow huge and they take a very long time to get there. You have to have a strain that will stay short and even then you will need to flower it at about 4" to keep it under 10" and even then you will need to train the plants by tying down the tops. I would suggest kgb x burmese, which is a mostly sativa plant which has an indica growth pattern but produces a sativa high. I"m still smoking some from my last harvest and it's about the best UP high I've ever smoked and I'm 40.
thanks for the advice all,,, every little bit counts there is so many contradictions in the articles that you read nothing beats 1st hand know how, saying that it can still be very much a case of hit and miss
Proof :~) try Ebay some are going very cheap or if your in the UK Aldi
Il check it out thanks duppy man :)
Thanks Pirate, kgb & burmese noted. I know I wouldn't have much joy with a pure sativa, but as almost everything's a hybrid these days I was hoping one of the seed farms might have made a short one already. I was thinking of experimenting with a vertical cage, 1/3 open, and just let it hit the ceiling, 'bout 8ft. Only minimal yield required, it's just for me and the fluoros cost f**k all to run.
Happy hunting.
Here's a pic of that kgbxbumese at 10" and 1 month old. Ended up at 30". I'll see if I can locate that plant at harvest. She was sweet. Took about 9 1/2 weeks to flower the top of the plant then I chopped the top and lowered the lights to finish the lower half for another 1 1/2 weeks.
Here we go. With about 2 1/2 weeks to 1st harvest. And a pic of the 14" bud.
Looks Delicious
That is a outstnding bud you have there! Congradulations!
HvyFuel, why do you prefer flourecents???
Being honest about it, cost. I grow strictly for personal use so yield per plant just isn't an issue. My first grow was under MH and cost me £300 in electric for a lot of a reasonable strength plant. I've found that under fluoro I can produce a smaller quantity of high thc bud, which suits my needs perfectly. I grow in soil so I walk into any department store with a small gardening section and get almost everything I need. I have to get cool whites from a hydro shop atm but I could even order them online.
If I didn't shout the fact that I'm a THC Minister everywhere the cops wouldn't know where to find me ;)
I see. I was asking because I am a user of flouros as well. Was it really a big difference in the plants and bud between the two types of light?
Yes, you get a much bigger crop with UPS(USP? stoned, can't remember) and MH but you lose potency. If you want to sell it that's great I suppose but if you're smoking your own there's no point.
Thats some high dollar electric you have. I guess it's not inexpensive so to say in England? I just use a 250mh and it may run me $8 US or so a month. I veg under floro's and flower under the mh.
i have grown with floros, mh's, and hps. And from my experiences, hps gets the best budz overall. With MH and HPS combined, you get even better budz. Now, i only use floros for cloning purposes, otherwise they are useless for me. For a personal grow you should get a 250 mh, youll have a bigger yield, with more abundance of trichomes. MOnthly electricity shouldnt be that BIG of an issue, it costs a few bucks, a few bucks thatll make ur buds that much better.
I had MH and HPS on my first grow but the police decided they wanted them, so I was left with no lights, no plants, and a £300 electricity bill. I neither know, nor really care, how much electricity costs elsewhere. And although I am always grateful for useful advice, how to increase the thc levels using fluoros would be of far greater benefit.
i dont know how you could increase the thc levels on a floro grow, floro's have such a low light intensity that you would need a lot of lights, with a lot of watts, penetrating the plant all over. the higher the light intensity, the more trichome development there will be, so my advice is to pack on the floros, and get them as close to the plant as possible. pLus, if you want to grow a majority sativa plant, ur crazy. Sativa's are soo bushy and big, a floro couldnt grow a sativa worth a damn!
Thank you, appreciated. At the moment I have eight 4' lights arranged in an arch. I'm trying to keep 6-7 plants in flower at any time, I have a separate area for veging with cool whites. I've bought good green and mine's stronger but I lose on the yield, don't mind that.
My idea for the sativa was put the lights in a vertical cone, flower the main stem, chop that and bring the lights down to the bush for another couple of weeks. It's only for me and I like playing. ;)
Hvyfuel any idea the height to plant ratio for fluoro as i might give it a go as i am constantly feeding the meter, im on the lookout for some outdoor strains that will tolerate British weather and save even more for a trip to Goa at the end of the year
I can almost taste that bud pirate niiiiiiice did it smoke as good as it looked
The police in Goa are clamping down on cannabis tourists, Be careful. I use 6x4' and get an ounce a plant, which I'm happy with as it's dripping THC. You can use compact fluoros and get another three quarters to an ounce but you lose potency.
peace :)
blueberry is a strain that was developed under floro lights, I have been reading heavilly into strains lately and blueberry, apparently produces quiet well under them.
I've grown some very potent plant's with fluorecent's before,12x40WTs,4 on each side and 4 above(480WTs total)compared to H.I.D. the grow takes 2-3 weeks longer and the yeilds are less(say about 35-40%)but they are just as potent, but the bulbs degrade after about 3 months and need replaceing,so it is not too cost effective compared to H.I.D(12-15 months)or longer....bonbon
So far I am having great results with the flouros I am using. I started with standard Sylvania 24 watt compact flouros for the first 2 weeks of vegging. Then I switched to 42 watt full spectrum Ozonelites. They are so much brighter that they make the original CFs look like standard house lightbulbs. They plants responded immediately and I am one week into flowering with these beautiful White Widows so far. My friend can hardly contain himself(his realestate, my garden). No problems so far.
Patience is obviously the key.
Dingo - Excellent info bro, just what I wanted to hear.
bonbon - I can get fluoro bulbs cheap locally, last time I used HPS & MH the electricy bill scared the bejesus out of me.
sawleaf - You're not going to give up with these new bulbs are you! OK OK I'll buy some.
peace :)
bonbon - I'm moving soon and will be using a new set up. Adopting your idea six above and four behind sounds like it's worth a try. Four sections 4' x 3' x 5', one crop per month.
