Hi, I am from a small town in PA, love it here. Currently, I support 3 legalization of marijuana efforts, but, as far as I know, there is nothing local. I think I might have to start something up on my own. ;)

CANNABIS.COM / Marihemp Network is based in PA in Wyomissing (near Reading, Berks County).
Not sure where you're at, but there are many people working for reform in PA...hopefully we can get some groups going...these new "local" boards will be a big help for people to meet other similar minded folks nearby.
Ron
Ron, I am in Wayne county. You're the administator, man, you have access to my email address. Please write me and let me know what's going on.
I'm Terrence in Morrisville, PA and I too am looking for some similiar minded people (wink, wink) to meet and burn with!!!
Hey, I'm a neighbor too! Live in Mohnton, work in Reading! Ron...if you see this, any job openings??

Dressing like a hippy is great when chillin, but doesn't do much when it comes to lobbying other then reenforcing the old negative stereotypes.
Got off on a tangent there ... probably the best way to get something going in your area is to find at least 3 other folks near you who have similar views and want to help facilitate change - then setup a meeting(s) with some local representatives in your area ... basically all you do is call your local representatives' respective offices and ask to meet with them. You'll likely end up meeting with a staffer initially, but who knows - and importantly, they get to hear how their constituents feel ... note if you and/or any of the folks who attend are involved in any questionable activity, be prepared for that to become known at some point to the local authorities/others, etc ... more a problem in a small town/rural area - as many here already know, activism comes with tradeoffs ... to put it in a nutshell, small-time medicinal users even in PA will likely have few, if any problems, but you certainly do NOT want any growers (nothing wrong with growing per se, but will become a distraction - and likely attract informants out to take others down) in any activist group you start up - as I said above ... just find 3 others and you've got a group - ok, I suppose you could go with less ... or even just yourself ... but having the moral support of others definitely helps in activism activities :)
If you need help with promoting your group and/or having trouble with setting up a meeting with local reps in your area, let me know here.
Ron
Not yet ... but eventually there likely could be. Nice to meet folks so nearby.Quote:

Ron, yes it's the possible aftermath of publically supporting legalizing marijuana that keeps me quiet. I do live in a small town, with equal amounts of people who would be open to my ideas and people who might show up at my doorstep with shot guns...I'm not joking. A local inn applied for a liquer license recently, and some extremely religious people threatened the owner of the inn with bodily harm at a township meeting. They felt liquer was the "devil's drink" and he was inviting Satan to our area. Can you imagine what they'd do to me? I also have children to think about. For now, I will have to support all efforts monetarally.
On the bright side, strong support for the Green party has come to light around here within the past year. People are tired of the status quo I guess, and are finally voicing their opinions to the public. If I want other supporters to join me, a meeting with them would likely offer the most promise. I'll keep thinking about it.
I understand what you mean about people dressing like "hippies". There's a time and place for everything. An unkempt appearance in front of people who already think badly of you is not smart. First impressions have a lot to do with how someone thinks of you no matter how good your ideas are. If some one doesn't look serious about their message, how do they expect to be taken seriously? Ok, now I'm ranting.
Oh and, Ron, I'd also like to apologize for believing a rumor that this site was closing from a less than reliable source. Next time I'll wait to "hear it from the horse's mouth" before I believe another rumor.:)
:)

I'll do what I can for the efford of making it legal, but I have to be kind of slick about it cause I have a young teen I'd like not to know my late night in basement hobby (I love). But I'll sign where I can to help and, perhaps do some bus if interested....
Heya HiGuy, 20 min from where I am at lots of peoples from PA. I luve this state
A get together would be cool - any suggestions as to where? And what type of venue would most feel comfortable meeting at - big mall, book store (no not that kind LOL! I mean Borders, B&N, etc), coffee house, etc ...?
Ron
Personally, I'd feel more comfortable meeting in a public place, how about a restaurant or something? What's a good, central location for everybody? I'm up north so I'm willing to travel a little way...if everyone else is.
Hi, I'm new here in Pittsburgh. There's no one around me :( Bummer! Oh well, I still have myself to play with. Err I mean, smoke with.... hehehe eh.
Im from right here in Hbg, and I can travel pretty much anywhere in state :). The restreraunt idea sounds good to me aswell as long as it is serves good food :p
I was scheduled to attend that meeting but ran into some medical problems, sounds like I didn't miss much. Please include me in the next attempt.Quote:

Glad to see you here :)
If we can get a small group of local folks together, a meeting with some local reps will worthwhile. It's a lot easier for a local group of us to schedule a meeting(s) than it was for MPP which isn't local to the area.
Reading some of the threads on the Reading Eagle forum these days is like reading this site LOL!

Regarding setting up a meeting with a local representrative, I'm very interested. I don't have much of a political background but I believe I could provide some excellent testimony based on the benefits I get from marijuana medically. I was diagnosed with epilepsy at age 18 (in 1982) and have since been declared disabled.
Because I don't work a regular job I probably have much more time available than most to be active in pro-weed endeavors. My latest kick has been attempting to educate as many mainstream type folks (like at ReadingEagle.com) of the numerous medical and socio-economic benefits of "freeing the weed". It's good to see how many ordinary people support legalization when given the opportunity to look at the prospect of it objectively without fear of being labeled a pot-head or being scrutinized.
Let me know if any job opportunities become available with Cannabis.com and Mari-Hemp, due to my very limited income (on Supplemental Security) I'm always looking to bolster my income while doing something that I believe in.
Also, if you find that my testimony regarding medical marijuana's effectiveness could be of use, please don't hesitate to contact me.
How did you get involved with administering these sites?
(Stokes)
I'm posting here simply because no one has posted from PA in December. So, here you go.
OK, Let's bring this thread to life:
I'll post too ... just in case nobody posts in January ...
You know there's deer everywhere ... what part of PA are you from, Mama?
Wayne county, northeastern PA. There are deer and hunters all over the place here, too. A lot of outdoor growers say they eat cannabis plants and they are a real nusance. But I don't know because I don't grow (not for lack of trying, I just have a black thumb as opposed to a green one lol). And fencing in the plants to keep the deer away is like drawing a big target on them for any outsiders to find. I've heard of lots of ways to keep deer away but they all sound kind of hokey...anyway, I can't keep them away from a regular vegetable garden, either, oh well.
I'm right outside Reading, with all of the new housing developements popping up it's chasing the deer into everbody's back yard. What used to be corn fields are now condos and $250,000 homes. I'm right outside the city near a river and I get a lot of deer in my yard cause they come down to the river to drink a couple times a day. I stopped hunting about 20 years ago cause it's like a freakin' war zone out there. Last time I was out, there were bullets flying all around me so I said fuck this, not worth it. The meat sucks anyway, but the deer are a pleasure to watch. Maybe I'm turning into a fuddy-duddy, at 40? I saw your pic on the pic thread, very nice. I'm separated with a 4 year old daughter and a 7 year old son. How bout your kids? you have three right.
I saw something about your area on the news...I can't think of the name of the development, Lake something? Anyway, it said they might start poisoning deer soon because there are too many. I'm not sure how I feel about that. It's sad, that's for sure.
Yes, I have 3 kids. 8, 5, and a 20 month old baby. The oldest 2 are in school during the day but the little one stays home with me all day. When the oldest ones get home, there is nothing but chaos! lol
Sorry, it took a few days for me to post, I don't check this thread everyday. :o I'll check it more often now. :)
Hey MJ, been kinda busy myself lately.
Was it Lake Wynonna you heard about? There's always some kind of rif-raf with deer going on around these parts, usually they just let the hunters out after them if there's a population problem. I don't agree with poisoning them, it's kinda sick.
I know what you mean by the chaos, most nights it's a chore just getting everyone bathed and to bed. It barely leaves time for a nightcap. Our youngest is in her last year of preschool and they're talking about starting full day kindergarten next year. Right now she's only going to Pre on Tues. & Thurs., but she's a pleasure to be with the rest of the time. I think I'll miss being with her when she starts K-garten, I won't have a reason to watch Noggin, Lassie, and Nickelodeon anymore, bummer!
Where can I find some good avatars, I'm new at this stuff, and I'm getting tired of looking at the one I have - it's getting old already ... something with a weed theme. ;)
