Just Another Crappy Day in Paradise Grow Log....Part Two.
As a sucessful long season winds down, I notice a problem. I have 28 legal holes and there almost EMPTY! Shit. Well not for long. :D
We can fix this....but I need a goal. Long season was good to me, but I can do better. I could slam a bunch of seeds in the dirt and choke myself out on 90 day wonders. It would be easy to do, but yield would be...minor. :(
I have a light room. It is seldom used. Here's the plan. This grow will start hybred, 12 hours sunlight, 12 hrs CFL's. That way I can get my starts a bit of size, 3 ft or more, before dumping them into their holes. Once in dirt they will jump and bud. Maybe get some 5 footers.
In theory this will work. The whammy will be the weather. La Nina dominates the Central Pacific this year. That means we will be wetter than normal. The land needs rain, as we are still in a 2 year drought now. But the girls don't.
Today I am busting my seeds I crossed from last long season. My goal is to cross the Cali girls with my big yield Sativas. Also those first generation Cali seeds need to adjust to our climate and photo-period. I will also cross the Cali girls with themselves, Then back cross them over Jan - April short season. Maybe I can get them all over 8 ft on long season next year. Also I have new blood comming from the mainland too.
OK. Here's the rules. Questions, comments are always welcome. If you want to call me a pompus asshole thats ok (wife does daily). I would like to stick to this grow. If you have questions or comments about part one, put them there. I'm not done part one yet, and will jump back and forth until long season is done and gone.
Short Season in Hawaii is a quick trip. Three months. It is a time to mess around with the herb and not do any long term damage. Screw ups can be forgotten and if I cross a winner it can easily be put into long season's line up. Blink and you may miss it. And of course you poor bastards on the mainland will soon be freezing, so I will put some fluff shots so you can see what you are missing.
Aloha OH

Boys and girls, I just hit the genitic Jackpot.
So far the Cali girls have been popular. The market is flooded, but the demand for the Cali girls have been steady. Next year I want to get them big. This year the largest one yielded 22 ozs. Next year I want 44.
I planted all my seeds from this cross and today I put them in dirt.
I'm trying to isolate the strain that has some size. I thought it would take a full three months to find the strain I want.
Today I go over to my partners house. He just had a stress fag go off in the middle of his garden. The stress fag was clone of the my big one. I gave it to him. Its my Thai/Bloodweed cross.
Then I see a bunch of clones I gave him months ago. He never took them out of the small pots and each plant was a 6 inch bud. All are from the Cali girls I made months ago. Some of each plant. I look at them closely and sure enough... seeds. Female seeds.
Bingo. Mother nature just gave me my first generation, Partner on the other hand is bummed. His entire crop is seeded. He is too proud to ask, but I will happily carry him this year. He would do, and has done, the same for me. It is better to stash genetics in two places anyway.
Now I have a bunch of 90 day wonders I don't need. They are easy to hide, guess I'm stuck with them. I will also need the males so I shouldn' grumble.
You all know what they say about blind hogs and acorns. Oink Oink.

Curious to see how that strain/seeds do here on pig island, west side. Not as much rain, but still pretty humid, I'm guessin'.

Just Another Crappy Day in Paradise Grow Log....Part Two.
Well, that was special. My test cross of the big one and the cali girls failed spectacularly. The cross will look great on the outside, but inside mold is ripping thru the top. In six days it is shot. Pulled them all.
The other cross is showing promise. I haven't cut them and they came thru the rain just great. So far no mold, but I have no pollen from that particular plant. If I try to stress fag her I will blow up about 3 lbs of damn good smoke.
The clones at my partners house were crossed with the wrong male...I doubt they will be any more resistant to mold than their father.
So the genetic jackpot can still be used, I just have to abort the existing young seeds (there are not many) and re pollenate them. I have seeds comming up, from the wide one strain, I just need some time. And a good male.
And for the cherry on top... Weather service says we will have a very wet year. And they are usually right. Last time they made that prediction, a cut off low sat on us for fourty days. Sure made everything green, but it didn't help any plant in bud though.
So short season will be...chalanging...it seems.
No rest for the wicked.....Shit!

Just Another Crappy Day in Paradise Grow Log....Part Two.
Long season 2010 is dead. It was fun while it lasted, but I gots to move on.
Wana know what happened?
Go read part 1. :D
Short season begins. You know you are a grower when before you trim the last bud of the year, you start to work toward next season.
Sparkly little morsels.
I loooove short season plants. You don't get much, but what you get is oh so tasty.
If I had my way I'd plant 500. And keep 'em all. Greedy bastard. Smoke them one after another. All year long. :hippy:
My partner knows this, and he has all the seeds. I have like ten plants from my first crack. BFD. How weak. He is messing with me. I gotta stop needling him about his seed crop :(
Eventualy I will chissel some out of him.
It's only fair to warn you this should be boring. No giants. No pounds...we are playing for pennies.... tasty pennies, but pennies.
And if I don't make a total hash of it, tons of seeds.
There's an offer floating on the bottom of page 11. Some of you know about it. Some don't. Still wide open.

True....make it here... I'll happily give you the tour. :D
Canni....Trimmer job should be done today. By Monday, It will be like 2010 never happened. Back to compliance. ;)
Class C....You are right. Hawaii card, state ID, and it helps if you need it = free. Gotta come get it, too. Them be the rules. Got all three? PM me.
Hawaii law says legal to buy. Illegal to sell. Legal to gift. Lord only knows that I would never sel...cough cough weezzzz... oh shit look at my nose grow.
Now let's drop it. I have plants to grow and heads to feed. And many miles to go before I sleep.
Later.

Just Another Crappy Day in Paradise Grow Log....Part Two.
Quick Q about re-veging. I'm going to run an all organic outdoor girl next summer, the outdoor season here in Colorful Colorado is over for this year.
I"m thinking of taking one of my indoor girls out of the flowering room and moving her outside after the last freeze, say mid april?
Should I use a full run flowering plant, harvest all the buds and just leave little ones and some foliage? or should I put a plant out that's only half done and just let it re-grow? or just say fuck it and start with a fresh clone?
-
Just Another Crappy Day in Paradise Grow Log....Part Two.
With your photoperiod, I think the days get longer too fast, so you won't get that first little harvest in April-May. It's important. It gets rid of all the males, and it gives you an idea if the smoke is worthy. Also gives you an excuse to knock the top off, leaving the bottom behind.
If you wanted to duplicate my exact sunset/sunrise I can easily get them....but that would be a royal pain in the ass. But it could be done. LSY did regrows too this year too. I think he started them inside.
I would find your favorite sativa dom, plant her early, maybe nip the tip when you bring her out in and in ground after the last....what do you call that now??? Oh...frost. Put her in a good deep hole full of goodies, and let her rip.
The white shit that falls from the sky....snow? Got it.
Regrows in pots, don't work real well, If you try to move them, they break easily. Waste time, lose money.
If they let you grow 7, get them huge. Do it for the kids. :D

The way i did my re veg's were to just grow your crop inside so it will finish close to a month before you would begin outside growing. You should harvest most all buds, but keep as many leaves on the plant and a few small buds on the outer part of the plant. Flip your lights back to 18/6 and in a week you will see new growth, at least i did. But after the last indoor harvest your going to want to cut the plant back, if you look at Rusty's thread, i did pretty much what he does to veg indoors. You really only need to take the plant out of its pot and cut the roots back on all four sides and the bottom, then put it back in the same pot with fresh soil. Then after it gets into full veg, i re potted to a bigger pot. After about a month i got them back to veg, then put them in the shade for about 10 days, then straight in the ground. Its easy i thought and will always do a outdoor re veg each year. Its a waste not to, because your yield will be more then doubled after its all said and done. The grow is in my Sig if i missed anything. Or if ya have questions just hit me in my thread in the outdoor growing section.
Man guy im pumped you have a new thread and new goals:thumbsup:it helps me to improve the rev skills. I know this grow would be done to get a good stable seed for your environment, but iv been working on breeding myself. So im sure il pick up some of your knowledge here too even tho we are breeding for different reasons. Thanks man.
Sorry man, not trying to jack ya bro, just pointing out where to find the from indoors to the great outdoors with the giant re veg machine:jointsmile:

Seasons change here, just like the mainland. Unlike the mainland, they change subtly, you have to know what to look for.
Saw my first plover today. They fly in from the Artic, and winter here. The plum trees are starting to change color, we have a big north shore swell, the first humpback whale has been spotted, and we had two inches of rain yesterday. All are signs of winter comming on.
Partner came thru with the first of the seeded clones. Slammed them in the cracking bowl. Another friend sent me a couple of Jack seeds. They have cracked and are in the dirt.
They flew Green Harvet today. Two choppers. They checked me out, but there is nothing to see. There was, but it is gone.
Too bad, so sad. :D
The kekei are doing well. Pics below. They like 24 hour hybred light. I just left them out in the yesterdays rain. They came thru fine. Took a lickin' and kept on tickin'. The nine shown are all the skunk/thai cross.

Yup, getting a downpour as I type this now.
What are you using for starter soil?
-
Just Another Crappy Day in Paradise Grow Log....Part Two.
I'm using half garbage soil from last years grow, half home made compost. If I have a pile I need to start fast, I use smaller pots and straight Sunshine mix #3. Throw some 14-14-14 time release on 'em and let 'em rip.

Well they seem mighty healthy as of now, but i cant wait to see what that nice sunshine will do for them. BTW i meant to ask how you are going to keep the rats away from your seeds? You had said they go after the seeded plants so breeding must be a pain in the butt. I would try the steel wool, but im sure you have this figured out by now.
Good luck bro, il be watching for sure:thumbsup:

Just Another Crappy Day in Paradise Grow Log....Part Two.
Starts see the sun every day. I move them to the CFL's at night. A couple of months back a stray cat adopted us, and he has been keeping the rats off the deck. Cat also knows where the dogs can get to and stays out of range.
Any rat on the ground in the yard is toast. Dogs will find them, turn them inside out, and bring them to me for a reward.
I also keep the starts under a wire mesh when they are small, because the cardinals like to eat them. You can also put your trays on buckets, rats can't climb them.
Anyway, these starts go inside every night, so the rats don't even get to see them. At this size, the rats will only attack them if there is no water. We had rain, so this size is immune...for now.

Hah!
He only makes it look easy.
I managed to screw it up royally!:o
I'm down to 1 strain in DWC.
Yesterday, I check da bucket and there's foam!
Root ball turned brown overnight in a fresh, (5days), fill.
Hit it with Peroxide, a mild fungicide, and a spritz of Serenade.
Yellowing seems to have stopped on da new growth within hours.
She ain't "singing" yet, but at least she stopped slumping.

'Morning Earthlings,
Another shitty day in paradise.
The market is flooded, everybody and their own mother has a crop in the bag. Fat times are here. A time to see and smoke (I call it "market research", wife of my youth calls it the two month stone out) all varieties of what the competition has to offer.
Now that the gulch is empty, it has been calling me. I hate empty holes. The starts below are now happily growing in the gulch. Planted them yesterday. Also took the opportunity to enlarge the gulch. Sprayed the whole thing with Round Up.
There was one 90 day wonder clone there, now gone. Pic below.
New strains gathered include some Jack, a refugee from #10, and a fruty sativa that a friend is growing, and he gave me some seeds. We will see where that goes.
So where do we stand? The gulch is planted with the pure cali strain, skunk/thai. Next wave is skunk/thai x ww/blood. These should be all girls. Next wave is unknown. From B.
This log is like watching paint dry.
Bummer,

This log is like watching paint dry... I said it and it's true.
LSY, Weez, Cani... I thank you....That said, you guys need a life. :D Seriously feel free to put whatever, wherever. Without you this is boring and stale. And as all of you know, my ego needs constant feeding.
How do I top last year?...I don't have a clue.
Like a fake fifty, the prodical patient returned to me...what a stupid fu...be nice...person. Typical, get weed, bail, sell weed, come back broke, sponge off me for the rest of the season. Where do I find these idiots???
Had a good rain this afternoon. Winter is here. I have one clone left on the bottom, and it rotted. This doesn't bode well for next year. Looks like a cane field year comming up. Last year the fields were dry and worthless. The big payoff was from the yard...Next year smells different. I may have to go in a different direction. Or maybe it was all bullshit...Who knows???
Anybody see anything about the Hawaii state judge on Hawaii island looking to dismiss charges against two people transporting MMJ intersland??? Ohh Baby...Another wall may just fall....If those dumb bastards get away with that without the feds frying them...a giant market opens. And I will have lots of frequent flier miles....Me and half the island. That would make my life a whole lot easier.
OK, Who the hell gave this a ranking? Five stars? PULLEEASE. Smells like charity to me. This ain't that log, This is the bullshit BEFORE that log...I hope. Anyway, I prefer to earn my stars...the old fashoned way...with a giant harvest.
OK, settle down... other than me giving you shit I got nothing. I will try to keep you entertained for a few, thats the least I can do...and I always do the least I can do on everything.

Just Another Crappy Day in Paradise Grow Log....Part Two.
Whaaaaattt,
It's been a while since I updated this. Progress is begining to show. The biggest plant in the gulch is pushing two feet, and all of the first batch is planted and showing sex. No fags, five boys and four girls.
The seed search had hit paydirt. New additions include some Diesel, White Russian, and some old style HB. All are in he cracking dish and should be planted today. Add those to the Jack, the tasty strain from B. and my other strains and I have the makings of a decent long season.
I enlarged the gulch and slammed another seven holes in. Planted batch two (the femed cross from partner) right next to batch one. Had to break down and spend cash on soil. I am a cheap SOB and that goes against the grain.
Winter is here. Dropped below 50 for the first time a couple of nights ago. I'm sure you all feel real sorry for me, but try not to laugh.
My little freeawana program has caught the attention of the cultivating kings up here. And not in a good way. There is talk of some asshole upcountry giving it away. NOOOO. Apparently this asshole dropped a load on Kihei, and in the process pushed the price below what the boneheads want for their crop. Too fuckin bad. It's called competition....get used to it. Some people wish I would just sell out.
Wish in one hand, shit in the other, and see what hand fills up faster.
I ain't stupid. Eventualy when I run out somebody will talk. But I ain't going to run out for a long damn time. And they will be pissed, because I said nothing, AND I have bummed their strains off them, and I will do it to them again next year. More better they just drop their price. :D

Just Another Crappy Day in Paradise Grow Log....Part Two.
hey bro, thanks for the tips on the other thread post.. yea, i know i screwed myself by not putting it outside earlier, i was having trouble finding a bigger pot to transplant it in and i wanted to do that before putting it outside. i have 2 other seeds that ill be starting up after i harvest my first one, and this time imma put it directly into the bigger pot to start so i wont have to bug with the transplanting (like i said before, it was just a practice run). now i know what to expect and am/will be more prepaired for those new plants to come! as for it being hidden... its pretty well hidden, its along the edge of a cliff on a flat section, theres a little hunting path at the bottom of the cliff about 20 yards down from the spot, however i already did a walk around and its hidden from the path by a small guava tree, and i checked all different angles from the windows in my house and from my balcony, and from all outside angles, the only way its visible is to walk right on up to the edge of the cliff. the cliff is about 20 yards away from the back of my house but no one goes back there like ever so i have no worries on that issue.
the funny thing about it is when the plant was a baby my dad stumbled on it, my little brother was laughing so hard cause it was in direct view of him and he almost didnt see it. he walked past it like 3 times before spotting it. he got upset that i had it being that hes a babylon, haha.. he almost pulled it outta the soil then i snatched it before damage was done and hid it. i told him that im going to apply for my blue card so he wont get so upset and be able to do anything when he sees the new plants.
with that last statement.. i have a compound fracture in my lower spine and get a pinching sensation wen i lie on my stomoche. and it causes back pain, not a 24-7 back pain but it starts to hurt randomly throughout the year, and espacially starts to hurt when im excersizing (i am highly active nd feel the need to workout. pain wont stop me!) this should be a good enough reason to be a medical patient right? if so what would be the best means of getting the blue card? one of my friends said to go to the doctors first and get medicine for it, (vikoden, oxy, percs etc...) then go apply for the card saying that the medicine causes me to get nauseous that way they see that i really got back problems and am not just another person trynna BS my way into getting high. also i have sleeping insomnia and the only 2 things that help me sleep is weed and alcohol, only i dont drink, nor do i like to drink even if i have an opportunity, and i really dont like sleeping pills those arent even an option in my mind!
any information you could give me would be much appreciated!
Mahalo.

Just Another Crappy Day in Paradise Grow Log....Part Two.
You still have two whole seeds??? What's up with that? You need a shitload of seeds. Plant the seeds you have and make more. I would put your three in the same place, pray for a male, and let them breed. Then you will have 200+
seeds and a decent chance to have what you need for the future.
As for getting your card, I have heard it is hard to get on Oahu. I would recomend a trip to Big Island. There is a doctor there that hands them out like candy. I will give you his name, in a rec, look on your profile page. This doc has a dislike for opiates, If you go to him with your meds, tell him you don't want to get hooked on them, and that you are in constant pain and you are in. Hello blue card!
Once you have your card, and pops can't say shit, scrap the big pots. All you need are small ones to get your starts growing in. When they get 5 sets of leaves, plant directly in ground. Your plants will get much bigger in the dirt vs in pots.
Remember you can grow 90 day wonders to bud all the way to the third week in January. Plant before Jan 21st and they will go off. After that some will go off and some will get huge. The huge ones you can regrow, but that is another bridge to cross when you get there.
To do short season right, the secret is in the vegetative growth. The bigger they get the more they yield. They will only be vegeing for a short time. In that short time you want to get them as big as they can before the plants figure out the days are short and it's time to bud. So they should be pushed as fast as they can, to whatever height you can get. That means lots of sun, the right fertilizer, you don't let them get rootbound, use good soil, and if they are in pots, transplanting to slightly bigger pots every month.
As for soil, you mentioned you have jungle behind you. That leads me to believe you live in one of the hieghts on Oahu. Nice area. But the leached soil up there is garbage. If you go inground dig your holes early, and put some lime in the holes and use store bought soil. I use an even mix of Sunshine #3 and FoxFarm Ocean Forest. For ferts get some Osmicote 14-14-14 Time release and drop a handfull around the plant. Good soil = bigger plants.
OK, I think I covered ninty day wonders 101. More questions? Fire away.

He gets his plants up a bit before planting in his holes, plus he said time released on top of the soil. So im sure it takes some time to get into the ground real good.

I just love the stuff. On my starts, I put a couple of teaspoons on when I plant the cracked seed. I have yet to burn the babies. A also have run a couple of tests and the pots with the time release do grow a little taller and stronger.
It is near impossible to burn the plants with time release.... sure if you want to bury the plant in the stuff, and soak it, could be done...but why?
One of the reasons I like it so much is that its free. My partner gets it from one of his jobsites. I love free shit. Why pay more?
