Hempy Buckets - DP Durban Poison | G13 Power Skunk | G13 Gigabud | Afghani

Let's try this again! I just finished up my 1st grow (in soil) and things turned out very well. I have had many great reports on the smoke and I surely enjoy it myself. Anyways, onto this one.

After watching killa12345 run a couple of grows in hempy buckets, I decided I had to give them a go myself. So far they have proved to be extremely easy and a very efficient use of space. In my limited grow room (specs below) I am not only concerned with height, but also the footprint that each pot takes up. With the soil, I had to move to 3 gallon pots by the end (which were probably too small) and those ended up taking a lot of square footage. So instead of running 3 big soil plants, I can run 6 hempy plants. The plan is to actually turn the veg box into the permanent mother box and just constantly pull clones from the moms, probably every 3 weeks or so. I am hoping perpetual, but like all good plans, things always change! Anyways, some information on what we are working with here:

Strains:
Dutch Passion Durban Poison Feminized (DP from now on)
G-13 Labs Gigabud Feminized (GB from now on)
G-13 Labs PowerSkunk (PS from now on)
Afghani Clones (AG from now on - unsure of breeder)

The Afghani is from my first run. I took 2 clones in my bubble cloner and after struggling with the process I identified pH as a problem, fixed it and they rooted. They both went into soil originally and recently I put one into soil and the other I tried and experiment to see if I could rinse the roots of soil and put it into hempy. When I post pics you will see the huge difference that shock caused. I believe the one in hempy now is just starting to recover from the shock (2 weeks later) and therefore looks like shit as usual. Either way, I think I will probably just flower out the small shitty one (if it survives) and keep the big one as a mother. I should be pulling 3-4 clones from her in the next week or so.

Rooms:

My space is limited to say the least, but I believe I have set it up to be the most efficient use of the space.
Veg/Mother Room:
20"L x 24"W x 40"H
Inside painted flat white
2 - 105W 6500K CFLs, 2 - 26W 2700K CFLs = 262W CFLs
Space for 6 -1.2 gallon hempy buckets, plus area for 32oz Gatorade jugs
Passive intake with 78CFM axial fan exhaust
Flower Room:
20"L x 24"W x 60"H
Inside painted flat white
250W HPS
Passive intake with 78CFM axial fan exhaust

The HPS is actually new. The last grow I used CFLs the whole way, I just feel that the HPS is probably worth the investment in the end.

Gear:
The hempy buckets are 1.2gallon paint mixing buckets, covered in black plastic with a hole about 1.5"-2" from the bottom. They are approximately 4 parts perlite, and 1 part vermiculite. I am using all FoxFarm nutrients for this grow and I am following their schedule for feedings. These girls get fed EVERY day so far, although I am aware I can let them go to every other once the tap hits the reservoir. I am attempting to water with 10-20% run off everyday which equates to approximately 4-5oz each a day right now.

The following are what are running and their birthdates (in parenthesis). It's kinda a pain in the ass with them being 4-7days apart, but it will work out fine I'm sure. As of now I have 1 DP (1/9/09), 2 PS(1/11/09), 1 GB (1/5/09), 1 AG and 1 AG in soil. Everything but the PS are confirmed female, so that is a good start.

I have been keeping a hand written log with as much detail as possible, so if you have any questions, please feel free to ask. I think I covered everything ... so I'll post some pics in a minute.

Since this entire post got deleted originally, I am going to attempt to play catch up at some point. I don't know if I can get to my pics since they are on a broken computer at the moment, so we'll see how this goes. Please pardon the rapid multiple posts.

I second the opinion on HPS...

socialistpete - it just makes sense, I can run a 250W HPS, which is basically the same watts as I was running on CFLs and I KNOW the harvest will be much better.

I'm going to throw up some pics of where we are right now. I am also in quite a debate right now as to what to do. I have all these plants that are just huge and are all about a month into veg. I wanted to keep them as mothers, but I am starting to think that they will get rootbound quickly and I will be fucked. They are all in 1 gallon buckets right now. So you say, "flower them stupid" well ... one week from today I am leaving for 8 days to go skiing in California, so I am really worried about leaving them at the beginning like that. I have a friend coming by, but it's still a risk.

I'm just not sure what to do. Do I keep ripping clones and getting those ready for when I get back? Or do I just start flowering these big bitches? Anyone know if I can keep mothers in 1 gallon hempys?

I should have definitely looked into this before. Timing just worked out funny. I will probably just keep ripping clones, let them veg while I am gone and then move on from there. It's safer, easier, smarter, blah blah i hate it.

Dude I remember I was reading somewhere that mothers need to be rootbound to kinda stunt growth at a certain point correct me if Im wrong
How are the PS doing? I just planted couple of them and was wondering if this is a worthwhile strain(got it for free from attitude)

yo max, if you could find a source for that, i would be very interested. I am looking into mother plants that I am sure I can do with hempy, it will just be a lot like a hydro system, so I am going to check that out.

So far the PS are going big and strong. I have a really stretchy pheno and a shorter more compact pheno. I think the stretchy one is actually a boy so I am not that torn up over it. They both have VERY narrow leaves, very sativa domniant, which I am happy about. I order DP Durban Poison from Attitude and got the GB Fem for free and the 5 PS for free. Thus far I am happier with the GB then the DP. The DP is a little bitch, breaking reallllllly easily and not looking 100% sativa AT ALL. I am not sure what is up with that.

Just a couple of pictures, a couple of the new clone box with DIY dome, a couple of the veg/mother room. That veg room is quickly getting out of control lol. I've had to raise the lights every couple of days, things are going crazy. I am trying to set everything up so I can kind of just leave things on autopilot when I am gone and come back to everything almost ready to flower. Then I can pull more clones, start flowering some first clones and the perpetual will be in motion.

This will have to do for pics, my other ones are on my dead laptop so that's gunna be a minute before I get those back. Beginning of veg doesn't have much action anyways.

Thanks Kronic! Good to have you along for this one. Should be getting pretty interesting in a couple of weeks here. We already have a few mamas, 3 f-ed up clones that will survive but will take time to recover, and 18 more clones rooting in the cloner now. Stay tuned!

just a couple of pics from yesterday.

I actually took two jiffy rooted GBs and put them into gato-hempy buckets. So far I have 3 GB and 2 AG clones in the veg room. I am not sure that 1 AG and 1 GB will make it, and if they do it will be a long road.

I also killed PS1 as I confirmed it was a boy. Clear balls. I was happy to chop him actually because it was very tall and stretchy and kept hitting the lights everyday. Now I have 1PS (gender unknown), 1GB (fem), 1AG (fem), 1DP (pretty sure a fem) for mothers.

The plan: I should have 6 clones (4GB and 2AG) vegging in the garden by the end of this week. Hopefully when I return from my trip, they should be doing pretty well and I will flip them into flower (2.23). The other 17 clones in the bubble cloner will go into hempy buckets and be vegged (assuming they are all rooted) for approx 1-2 weeks depending on size. Then I will flip those, so it will be a two week difference. I will also take another 18 clones off the mothers and get those moving in the bubble cloner.

Hopefully I can keep this perpetual for a while. It appears that the flower box could hold a ton of these buckets, probably 4 x 7or8 = 28-32 bitches. Having assumed similar for the veg box and finding out 6 mamas for that space is nutso, I am going to look to run 3 rows with 6 each. The issue is that the GB says it will take 5-6 weeks, so I can run them 2 weeks apart and it will move them in and out perfectly. But the 8+ weekers will take some more tricky work. In that case I may end up pushing it to 4 rows of 5 at 2 weeks apart.

Anyways if any of you understood any of that rambling, my apologies lol. I just had to get it out on paper to see what I was thinkin.

Hey folks,

Just got back late last night from a really amazing ski trip to CA. 6 ft of powda in 2.5 days! And I spent most of the afternoons / evenings smoking some WWxNL which was just delicious.

Anyways, I had to rig together an auto watering set-up because I didn't want to have to bother my boy with coming on a certain schedule, taking them all out to water, etc etc. So I used a 160 GPH water pump in a 5 gallon bucket with a digital timer that does down to 1 minute intervals. It was a bit of a bitch because I basically had to do everything the day before I left and I did not have the time to test things. Basically, I got lucky and it all worked out even though I am pretty sure some girls got more water than others.

My boy did a good job taking care of things, everything turned out just fine. Actually, these girls took off like crazy, it is was a daunting task to take care of things tonight.

SO, basically I got home at 1 am, went to bed at 3, got up for work at 8 and worked until 7. THEN I spent 3 hours trying to take control of things. This is what I did:

1) The clone box was amazing. Everything had roots and was showing vertical growth. 3 I left in there because they looked like they could use some more time, I threw out 5 (all AGs, they SUCK at cloning) and the remaining 10 went into Gato-Hempys. They all got a nice dose of week 3 nutes. Now they are all under the HPS in the flower room and thus far are doing well. I am leaving the HPS on 24 hours until tomorrow when I will flip them.

2) I fed the Moms with week 4 nutes. I now have 4 females. 1 PS, 1 GB, 1 DP, and 1 AG. A beautiful sight to say the least.

3) I took 15 more clones: 4 PS, 5 DP, 6 GB. I am assuming about a 10 day rooting process, and then perhaps 10 more days of veg, so that is about 3 week interval. I can potentially pull new clones every 10 days, so I might actually build another DIY cloner. I am kind of just winging it right now until I can establish what sort of space these clones will take up.

4) Changed the bubble cloner res.

Tomorrow I am going to have to LST some of the mothers, they are simply getting too tall.

I snapped some pics of everything I was doing and in hindsight I am wishing I had taken pics of the rooted clones, it was a beautiful sight to see.

haha, me too man. These clones are only about 6 in high, and probably won't yield huge and probably won't be 4 ft high, but I had to get things moving on the perpetual. Next cycle (3 weeks or so) should have some clones that are much bigger. Patience is a virtue my friend.

Just a quick note:

The flower room has been flipped. The lights are off from 9am to 9pm which is sort of inconvenient, but I am doing it for temperature control come spring / summer. Not even sure if I can run in the summer yet. :(

I actually moved things around so that the AG mom is in there now. She is getting flowered out. Basically she is so mature and the nodes are so tight that it is going to be one huge mass of nugget. I have 2 more AG clones in the veg room that will become a mom if I decide I want to keep her. This is the first time for her on FF, under HPS and in hempy so I am thinking the smoke will be a little different. Once I decide how I feel, I will figure out if I want to keep running her.

Anyways, things will start blowing up soon! The clones didn't really get much time to veg (3 days for most), so hopefully the 12/12 will actually help them with some rooting and then BAM.

hey GG, glad to be back too. skiing was amazing. so much snow, and plenty of that amazing cali bud.

I had a question for anyone ... anyone ever tried to slowly shift the light cycle? Basically I set my on/off for 9pm-9am (on at night for temps) and I am quickly realizing that those times are not very convenient for me. I was thinking about trying to shift it, in 5, 10 or 15 min intervals so that it is more like 8-8. Think it's better to do it very gradually like that or just switch it real quick? Any experience anyone ?

its best to keep it set where its at, but if you have to switch, gradual is the key. just replicate mother nature's slowly shifting seasons. 15 minute intervals per every two days oughtta be okay. i myself encountered the same situation and thats what i did. no problems whatsoever.

the only waste of time as far as gradual switching goes is to gradually switch them to 12/12 from veg. it doesn't do anything beneficial, imho.

Well, a little update.

Things are moving along. Only about 4 days in flower so nothing really, but everyone in the flower room is blowing up which is a great sign. Some of the clones struggled a little, but they all look like they will survive and prosper.

The mother room is growing out of control. I don't want to really chop anything down at the moment so that I can choose the best clones for the next clone run. Just waiting on the current clones to root; they probably have another 6 or 7 days till they will be ready. Then I can take a bunch more and chop the mom's down a lot.

I snapped some pics. The mom's are gnarly to say the least, but hey, it's workin'. I just have the LST the shit out of them to keep them from burning themselves to death. Oh ya, and the mom's appear to have a Calcium issue, I am thinking maybe from pH issues. I have been using drops and thought everything was ok but I just ordered a pH pen so hopefully I will have a more exact number. I also started foliar feeding them with dolomite lime as well as increasing the pH a tad for the feedings. Anyways enjoy ...

This Gigabud I have says 5-6 weeks flowering time. It was a freebee, but it is the shortest flowering I have ever seen. I have up to 7 weeks before 4/20, so just in case, but if I can consistently pull at 5-6 weeks, it would be great.

Not to mention the GB loves the nutes, clones so f-ing easy and is so strong. Let's just hope the smoke is great too! I don't know why this wouldn't be an ideal commercial strain if it produces nice stuff at 6 weeks.

We shall find out! G13 Labs is relatively new, so who knows what they have come up with.
