1st grow.... F*@*#!! terrible!!!!

well this is my first grow and i decided to share it with all of those who (A) choose to read this (B) accidentally stumbled across it (C) came to demean or help out my grow....:thumbsup:

okay first off i'm broke as shit so.... my grow room setup was basically free besides the electric bill kicking my ass...:mad:
i actually did buy the light for 15 bucks off a friend who told me it was a 500w MH light but.....when i got it, i found out it was a garage light like the ones you would use to work on a car. though it said it was 500w, nowhere did it say metal halide so i don't know if it's right or not. but it's working.

my grow room is full of junk which could hurt the plants in the long run but i don't really know... i tired to clean up a bit but was to anxious to start growing and change my green tip to a green thumb...

okay so far the plants have been planted and sprouted for two weeks now. And so far they look pretty good besides the dumbass fact that i have them all in one pot, diverting back to how broke i am.
the plants are growing in miracle grow (which i heard is bad) and i been feeding them Fox Farm grow big every other day and at two weeks it's doing pretty good i'll get pics up very soon.....:jointsmile:

That light looks like a mercury vapor light. Is the bulb long and skinny? ...like a pencil?

if so...it uses lots of electricty and puts off a lot of heat... and has the wrong light spectrum for good growing conditions. IMO.

yea the blub is actually kinda short but definitaly thin.... i mean if u read above then u understand that i'm broke as hell and can't afford another light but this one seems to be working do u think i could still use it??? i mean so far i'm surprised that it even gots this big in 2 weeks it's almost like 15 inches or so....

go out and buy 3 27 watt cfls's ... daylight and you will be good

It'll grow. They'll grow under any light source. Its just the better the light source the better they do. You would probably actually save money on cfl's because they will use way less electricity and then you can get them in the right color.

That looks to be a halogen work light. No good.


If you have absolutely no money whatsoever, dont grow pot yet. If you dont do it right, the buds will be horrible. For all the work and time you'll put into it, and then it comes out looking like gras clippings, the feeling is horrible, I know from experience. The least you can get away with spending is gonna be about 20 bucks, 3 CFL's on a power strip in a white box.

Those plants are already so stretched I would start over.

i might have to look into that but, i'll be broke for at least another two weeks and i was planning on flowering them in 2-3 weeks or whenever they hit 2ft.....
does anybody think having them in the same pot could kill em????
i think it's like way to late to transplant them and i never transplant right anyway....btw there was 9 plants in total in the same pot, but my inexperience in transplanting killed 5 other ones then i gave up.....any answers....???

you can flower using just cfls but you have to have 2700k for flowering, and im pretty sure its 6500k for veg (sorry im very:stoned:) check the veg one up though just in case.
But if I was you I would start over with some half decent beans.

yo just keep growing them it'll be fine in the dirt,when they show sex you'll have too kill off the males so that'll give up more room. know the light is costing you lots of cash money in power bill! you can get 4pk off softwhite CFL's at walmart for 7.88$ I saw CFL's at lowes yesterday on sale! so their pretty cheap I got a case for $12 thats 50 cent each lol get the softwhite 2700k or 3000k works for flower will work for veg in a pinch the cfl's will drop your powerbill by 4/5's thats big $$ good luck;)

yea i just might be picking those cfl lights up in about 2 weeks, so for now fuck it it's just gonna be under the work light. anybody got any really good ideas for a setup of CLFs.

also i kinda did notice that compared to other plants i been seeing on this forum that my plant does seem to be stretching up rather than building a base or getting more bush like... so for now, i moved the light at angel so that it's reaching the more of the bottom in hopes that this could help it fill out more.

just watered them too. fed em that good old fox farm big bloom but it was just by eyeing it i didn't measure or anything. it wasnt' much though at least not to me but we'll see how the plants takes to it in a couple days. i'll have more pics up tomorrow afternoon.:D

You should read in the closet/cabinet section.
Not only is your light wrong, but you have multiple plants per pot, a bad case of thrips, and the soil looks really wet.
To re-size pics, r-click them in your computer and choose 'edit'. A photo editor program should pop up and one of the pull down menus contains options for re-sizing.
We can't change pics once they are posted, only remove the whole post.

Hehe, yeah that pic needs some rezising. :)

Easiest way to do that is normally just to open it in Paint and use the rezise function there. Just Take it to 50% in both x and y and save as jpeg and voila.

For the rest I am glad to see you here m8. It sucks to be broke that's for damn sure.
Especially when being broke like in your case cost you even more money in wasted electricity.
If there is no way you can get better lights until in a few weeks then can't you use natrual light for at least some hours a day?
I don't know how you live etc ofc but if you could use daylight some hours now and then it would help out a lot.
Then when you get better lights it will be ok again.

I just love that you are going for it though. :) This is not rocket science as long as you are not out to absolute maximize yeilds etc. One way or another you will succeeed on whatever budget and being on this forum will help you out a lot.
We've had a lot of people growing without budget and normally they come out ok, just have patience and keep an open eye around your house (and elsewhere ;) ) and you will find things now and then that will come in handy.

Dont give up you have come to far! every one makes mistakes their first grow so learn from them. first of all listen to stinky! she knows what shes talking about. second your soil looks very wet be careful not to over water them, also as others mentioned your light is complete shit.. dont feel bad the same thing happend to me my first time growing a friend of mine gave me one of those lights and said it was a grow light ehh wrong! it has the wrong spectrum of light for good floral growth! forget getting cfls because you really need to many of them for it to be worth it price wise in my opinion (although you can get away with as little as one or two small cfls you wont get that much bud) you can get a 150watt hps light from your local hardware store which has a much better light spectrum for 20-40 bucks i would def go with that. also you should never plant more than one MJ plant in the same pot!! they fight for root space and nutrients and can eventually get so intertwined together that they die. keep up the work and see what you can get out of it. keep us updated!

Home depot sells T12 2 bulb 4 foot fixtures for under $10, the bulbs (depending on what kind you get) run about $10 each. That should get you through veg.. They also sell CFL's equal to 300w, they are 2700K and run about $15 each. That should get you through flowering. From what I have read the more light the better, you can never have too much :P

I really dont condone or suggest "ripping off" or stealing Anything But u got to do what u got to Do. If u really need CFL's u can go to walmart. Go into the lighting section open up a box of 99cent Incandescent Lights. Empty that. open pack of 26W CFL's Replace them into the Incandescent Light Box. Process the the U-Scan Checkout. Quickly scan and put into a Bag. 4cfl's for 99cents.

yea you can start flowering or wait a couple more weeks, maybe a month to get a nice yield, wait for those smaller branches to get bigger, normally you achieve this with LST

Well. Your plants look pretty good despite the not so good(Im being nice) growing conditions.. No offense but I think youve got the horse in front of the cart... Read up and learn... There is simply a lot of trial and error even if you have a horticulture background... CFLS are your best bet if you have no budget, but on the other hand you need a lot of them to produce decent bud during flowering... You know for the price of an ounce of kind, you can get yourself a decent switchable 400 watt system and some fans and now you have a little system you can grow good bud with... Its not as hard as some would have you believe. The same basic plant principles apply, but its like anything. The more you do it, The Better you become. (Well in most cases:wtf:).. Good luck, Invest in your future, When you can... So you dont have to pay the Man...d:rastasmoke:

More light is never a bad thing, as long as you can keep the temp. under control.

i have one more then you for a total of 400watts and i still want more!! :rastasmoke:

The only reason NOT to put in more lights should be temperature or blown fuses.
More is better and ALSO more economic.
You easilly get weed worth many times every watt of light.
So as long as it wont over heat and you can pay your bills the coming months get more. You make that money back many times around come harvest.

so.....:question: i been thinking....about my grow space and the environment i had my lil girls(hopefully) in chillin' you know, doing there veg thing and shit. And i noticed the light really wasn't getting to the bottom of the plants or anything. So finally after some heavy thing and paying tribute to bob marly...:rastasmoke: i finally came to the conculsion i gonna need a new space. i can't addford to buy one of those fancy ones from and the internet or high time mags and shit, and i also could'nt find any old furniture to transform into a grow box.

So i had to build one myself and so far it hasn't cost me a damn thing so far.
it's not the best box but it'll do for now. i put my plant inside last night and they seem to be enjoying the new spot...

Yes but dont expect us to be like California anytime soon. I doubt there will be any dispensary's anytime soon. Maybe In detriot or lansing grand Rapids or Kalamazoo. But then again...... never know.... good look obtaning a MM card as i will be hunting for a doc too =D

nah i think they said that we will not have dispensary's or something like no co-op grow or sum shit....
oh yea and since i dont have any debilitating injury or diseaqse i got a friend who does and i'm gonna be her primary caregiver for the mm.....

does anybody think i still could transplant the plants into seprate pots or is it way too late. i know it was a dumb ass mistake...but fuck it i'm gonna keep dat bitch growing till the leaves fall off:cool:

i was also planning on flowing soon seeing as how the plants are 2 and half feet already and during flowering are only gonna get 2-3 times as big. i was letting the lower branches get bigger before i decided to start flowering and they seem to be filling out nicley now... i'm thinking about waithing till sunday to start but i knida wanna start today what do ya think???

It's not to late to transplant your plants, with more root space they will be able to grow bigger in the long run. Its up to you if you want to start flowering or not.. in my opinion a month is the perfect time to start unless you want some huge monster plants :stoned:. as you said in flowering they will grow 2-3X so I think you should transplant to bigger pots and leave in another week of veg then switch over to 12/12 :smokin:
