First Timer CFL bagseed grow...check out set up, love some advice?
Hi all.
Doing it for the first time. I gotta say that so far I'm pleased with the progress, but I'm sure I could be doing better. I'm growin' 4 from bagseeds, all are just over 1 month old. Some look better than others. Love some pats on the back/kicks in the ass from anyone that knows more about this than me.
I've read Cannabis Grow Bible and How to Grow Medicinal Marijuana, and have been constantly checking this site. I'm a month in and DON'T wanna fuck this up.
Growing in 10 inch pots w/ FoxFarm organic soil w/ guano and worm casings.
Cabinet Size: 2L x 2W x 4.5H
Lights: 4 x 4' 40W Flour. Tubes, 4 x 26W CFLs
I have NO intake/outtake ventilation to speak of yet, simply 2 small fans constantly running. That WILL change, I'd love some ideas?
Planning to put a 2 liter bottle with some sugar water and yeast in for some CO2...anybody have any luck with this before?
I've got some pics attached. Let me know whatcha think? All of it's a work in progress, sucks that the plants snuck up on me....well, doesn't REALLY suck.
Lemme know.
Peace

I didn't do Mylar 'cause the walls were already flat white. Is Mylar a HUGE advantage? Here some new pics, didn't upload the ones i wanted.
Gonna add two more 42 W Daylight CFLs. Just added the other CFL's today, and the ladies (hopefully) are lovin' it.
Again, any other ideas I'd love some input. I think ventilation is the only thing givin' me a headache. Thinking of a small fan up top pullin' the hot air out.
Peace.

sorta looks like the small setup in cervantes dvd, xcept for the flouros, the guy had a mini horizontal reflector, probably equiped wit one long tubed cfl hanging above 5or6 plants bout the height u got it at in 6" pots some squared.he even has 3"pots on a small shelf to the side.his plants r bout as high as urs n alredy look to be flowering pistils n fewer more branches than u have.dont know ur growing style but the weed bible stresses the most important chart is the light chart light does fade fast. I'd rather have short plants with firm buds than tall ones with loose buds cuz the light didn't reach. ur plants r a little droopy cept for the 1st pic looks awsome but all hav nice green color I guess. u nevr know wht can hapen wit bagseed. JC recomends purchasing high quality seeds. I hope u select a good mother been mature for 2month n then replace the plants u have now n flower thoes nsted of flowering wht u got . I had more to say but me being a noob who hasn't even set up his cfl's and hps yet n $500 spent in doesn't evn hav nutes or quality seeds yet (still need thos) n PH equipment n grow expirience. never thoughtd be so much organazation n discipline involved jus excited to see I'm not alone. happy gardening. yours n his set up look similar n u probably using more mor watts. KO0L MAAAAAAAAN! whoooohooo to all the noobs

What's up, fellas! Thanks for the tips. I ordered a roll of Mylar today and am shopping around for fans for a vent. system. That's the only thing that's really stopping me up.
That chicks look pretty good. so far. I included some pics.
I added 2 more 27 Watt Daylight CFLs to the overhead set up. I'm sure I should put some 42 watt in there as well, but for Veg I think i might be okay.
Also, I'm setting up the clone room right above the main room. Callin' one "Thunderdome" and other "Brazil".....anyone get the Brazil/Clone reference? yeah, way too much time on my hands.
Also included a shot of the room as a whole right now and a close up of Sampson, my favorite plant right now (PLEASE let him be a girl...wait!??!)
I'm on a SUPER budget. The writer's strike in LA is fucking me bigtime....not that I don't think they should strike.
Whatever....peace, sheeple.

QUICK QUESTION: being that this is bagseed i'm dealin' with and have NO IDEA how tall they're gonna get....CAN i force flower before they start to display sex?
I've read that early flowering can produce hermies? Any help here? I mean, theoretically, COULD i flower them now, within a month? Any hypothesis?

I'm at 6 weeks and started them on LST tonight. See how they look in the morning. Fingers crossed.

YO, fellow farmers!
So, I've got some photos of the ladies. I'm on day one of LST and it looks to be goin quite nicely.
The bottom leaves on my biggest plant shriveled up and turned almost shiny green. Weird, the rest of her looks healthy though. ANY IDEAS!?!
Check out the pics. Love any support/questions. I got my Mylar in the mail. It's goin up first thing in the morning AND still looking at fans.

It is common to move plants into flowering as soon as possible, and I don't see why yours wouldn't be old enough. By and large, hermies are caused by stress and according to cannibis lore can be encouraged by starting flowering then moving back into veg, light during the dark cycle, and a variety of other stressful events. In my experience, a few hermie buds are par for the course, but how many appear and the reason for it may be hard to explain.
Since you are using bag seed, you stand a very good chance of being dismayed by how large your plants want to grow. The won't stop growing just because you switched to a flowering cycle.

Thanks, Khan. I know the plants will likely double in flowering. I just didn't want em to get 3 feet tall before flowering in a 4 foot grow room. I LSTed em last night, so that should take care of the height issue.
It's my first crop and I wanted to get one under my belt without spendin a hundred bucks on seeds first. Project: test crop. hah.
Thanks for the flowering tips. I was thinkin I had to wait another 2 months to 12/12 em. I'm gonna let em veg another few weeks and than 12/12. BOOSH!
Happy farmin'

First Timer CFL bagseed grow...check out set up, love some advice?
Hey fellas,
Update time. So, I'm a month and a half into veg. I'm thinking of veging for 2 more week and than starting 12/12.
Sound good?
STILL no ventilation system. I've taken to leaving the closet door open, 'cause it does seem to be getting hotter in there.
I've included some pics. I LSTed em last week and just applied the second strings to start winding the ladies around the edge of the pot.
QUESTION: Are there any OTHER branches i should be worried about tying down?
Check em out....let me know. How'm I lookin?
-
First Timer CFL bagseed grow...check out set up, love some advice?
Bumpin dat shit.
After another round of tie downs last night I've got some spots on the plant that look randomly burned. CAN'T be from being too close to the lamp.....just like one big island of dark and crispy on an otherwise healthy leaf.
Any thought?
-
First Timer CFL bagseed grow...check out set up, love some advice?
Your plants are looking good! LST is the way to go, IMO. You'll get those lower/side branches popping out and growing up towards the light now.
I would really try to get a vent. system up and running. Even if it's just a small comp. fan exhausting out the top with a passive intake on the bottom, that is so much better than nothing! Do you know what the temps are in the cab? I think CFLs are underestimated when it comes to how much heat they can put off in a small space.
Got any close up pics of the burn? Could be pH issues, calcium def... anything really.
-
First Timer CFL bagseed grow...check out set up, love some advice?
Looks good!! I'm setting up a similar grow within the week or so... I would definately add more light when it comes down to flowering them though, the more light the better ;) CFL's should be about 2'' away from the plants, but I'm not sure with your ventilation problem. Try to get that figured out, and update; I will be tuning into this grow ! :)

First Timer CFL bagseed grow...check out set up, love some advice?
gotta say looks like you've got a decent handle on this. Im in the middle of my first grow as well, im using CFLs but my grow space is abit more contained so i only have room for one more plant (growing in a rubbermaid set up) Id veg your girls for a bit longer as it will pay off even more with the lst'ing. But your plants look like a indica dominant plant with some sativa in it. Meaning those bitches have the potential to STRETCH LIKE HELL once you start'em on the 12/12 light cycle. Mines been in 12/12 for a bit over a week and i almost shit myself when i opened up the box after a its first 5 days on 12/12 (mines mainly sativa and they tend to grow taller) . Im talking like...it probably grew a total of 2 feet or so in a 5 day period (this is adding up the length of all the branches growing out towards the light). In the off chance your curious ive been LST'ing myself here are the two most recent pictures of my girl getting tied down.
In regaurds to your crispyness, when was the last time you flushed your girls? i ask because i seem to notice that a common problem among us newbs is not flushing.
also i wanna second the notion to get some kinda ventilation in that room, its so important for the plants health.
-
First Timer CFL bagseed grow...check out set up, love some advice?
Hey everyone thanks for the info...one at a time now.
Bron - thanks for the comps...i agree that CFL's are prone to more heat than people seem to think, it maintans a high 80's...87...my digi thermometer broke, just ordered a new one.
Just found that this fan I had in there had heating coils in it and was SUPER fucking conducting the heat. DER on my behalf.
Gundari...thanks for lettin' me know what kind of space issues I might be facing. I have no idea how many of these plants are gonna be flowered as I still don't know the sex. I am SEMI-hoping that at least ONE is a male. As I don't know if I have the room to flower 4 plants. Again...that's SEMI-hoping. As far as flushing...I've not yet soil flushed as I was under the impression this was only a last ditch soil problem fix.
What makes you think the plant is indica dominant? Just curious as I was simply going from leaf shape...and thought it looked sativa.
Your plant looks phenomenal by the way.
I'd love some more info.
Post some pics manana...including of the burn. Dont know what the hell it is.
Thanks again, folks. Peace. Somehow it feels nice to be a noob at something again. Thanks again.
Smoke em if ya got em. And I DO!
Legend of Zelda: Twilight Pricess for Wii....can't figure out how to unfreeze the fish people?!?!

First Timer CFL bagseed grow...check out set up, love some advice?
Na you should flush on a fairly regular basis, as you fert your soil fills up with toxic salts. The salts swing the ph of your soil towards an extreme where your plant cant take up nutes very well and the salt crystals themselves stop your plant from sucking up nutes as effciently. (During veg i always tried to do it once every 2 weeks, thats overkill in my opinion but it was always so cool to see the insane growthspurts that would occur after i did it).
I say your plant is indica domninant because of how fat your leaves are, mines sativa dominant (some indy in it), just take a look at my leaves then yours, you'll see that yours are much broader/fatter looking. Yours were already fairly bushy without the LSTing, another indica trait.
And dont worry, odds are with 4 bag seed plants ATLEAST one should be male, i mean its a 50/50 chance technically for us new guys, if the growing gods smile on you and give you 4 fems just cull the weaker one(s). Theres ALWAYS a runt of the group.
Ty for the kind words on my plant, Yours are lookin nice and pretty too. (Im jealous you've got some indica dominant bagseed, bagseed tends to sway more towards sativa dominant. Well atleast according to the members of this forum it does).

First Timer CFL bagseed grow...check out set up, love some advice?
Seriously,
Such a comprehensive collection of wonderful information. Okay, now regarding the soil flushing. The soil I'm using is FOX FARM organic compund which already have nutes mixed into it.
If I soil flush aren't I going to just flush out any of the remaining nutrients. The chick at the growshop said that this soil would get me through veg with no feeding....OR should I do a soil flush and simply starting feeding the plants regularly.
For those interested here is a photo of the "burn" on the leaf which is spreading. Also, some of the leaves have lost their green.
After coming this far, I dont wanna fuck this up. YEAH, it's Project: Test Crop, but that don't change how much I actually care about these plants.....and my potential future of killing them and smoking them
BOOOSH!!!
-
First Timer CFL bagseed grow...check out set up, love some advice?
Yea the flush will get rid of all the nutes, but ive also heard that foxfarms tends to get salty alot faster then most other soils. I know i personally like to use a light soil that doesnt have any ferts in it at all just because i dont like pre ferted soils messing with my feeding regimine.
If you wanna do a quick test water your plant till the point of run off, what color is the water? is it kinda a clear brown / yellow or is it just plain clear? If its tinted brown or yellow you need a flush, that tint is toxic salt build up.
As for your problem...im not really all that good at diagnosing, but your leaves look alot like my leaves did when i had PH lock out (the "burn" looks like ph spotting too, to me atleast). Do a Test on your run off water (assuming its not all dark and nasty like previously mentioned) you want it to be some where in the area of 6.5.
Here's a shot of what my leaves looked like during the ph lock out (they were also being underfed and overwatered too...god ive done so many horrible things to this plant).

First Timer CFL bagseed grow...check out set up, love some advice?
Gundari...you've been amazingly helpful, brotha. Appreciated.
I did a test and the water came out crystal clear. I'm off to my grow shop to grab a ph tester....think you might be onto something about
NOW about my soil...the reason I got foxfarm was that I didn't want to have to get into feeding my ladies.....NOW i regret that decision. Pretty much the only aspect of this that I have almost NO comprehension of is when/how/what to feed my plants.
I'm a learn by reading and not experience kinda guy and it seems like everyone has conflicting methods of fert.....any ideas where i can just get some straightfoward info. I mean, even reading CANNABIS GROW BIBLE didn't really help. I know it sounds like hand holding...but I like to be able to read "BUY (namebrand fertilizer) AND USE IT (amount of times per month)...or something like that.
Thanks again for the tips. MAN...that plant has come a LONG way, brother.

First Timer CFL bagseed grow...check out set up, love some advice?
Hah yes, i know lillys done quite a bit of growing. She makes me proud.
Either way im happy to be helpful, i have alot of respect for the mods / people on these boards who go out of their way to help people so i try to do the same. Makes me feel like im giving something back, plus if i can help someone else learn from my mistakes so they dont have to make them thats a good thing.
Heres what i do for feeding, its a generally simple practice and ive only burnt my plant once (and it was very very very minor). For vegging i use Miracle Grow (forget the name but it comes in a little yellow bottle, looks alot like a mini laundry detergent bottle) but anything decently high in nitrogen and potassium will work. Read the instructions on the box then cut the amount per gallon / litre they give in half (or if you wanna be extra safe, which i suggest you do your first feed since all strains behave differently cut it by 75%). I normally put myself on a regimine that starts after the last flush, i give my plant a good flush then the last bit of water i flush her with is a 25% nute solution so she's got something to eat. A little bit of Hydrogen Peroxide helps to get some air to your poor drowned roots is you want to put some of that in with the nute solution. leave her alone for 5 days or so (she'll want to get nice and dry after that flush) then i water her twice, feed with a 50% solution and just use plain water till the next flush (repeat).
So in your situation id just start feeding maybe once every two weeks with a 25 to 50% solution and see how your plant handles it, if they're lovin it start feeding a bit more often but the key is to move up very slowly as it alot easier (and less stressful) to just add a little more fert then it is to burn the plant and have to flush out your soil all over again.
When you get into flowering do basically the same put replace the miracle grow with a fert thats lower in N, higher in P, and about the same in K. I use this stuff i found at lowes thats made for orchids, its got something along the lines of 11-35-15, along with all the micronutes the plant needs and its been doin great for me so far. Oh also get some molasses and feed that to the plant as well (about a tbsp per gallon) when you start flowering she'll thank you for the extra sugar / carbs by growing much denser buds.
Basically feeding is kinda a learn as you go thing, everyone develops their own methods and such. The key in my opinion is to start with baby steps and work your way up, because like i said earlier, hell of alot easier to put more in then it is to take stuff out.

First Timer CFL bagseed grow...check out set up, love some advice?
Hey all.
Been a while and I've learned ALOT in the meantime. I'm 2 months into Veg and I'm thinking of starting 12/12 real soon. Won't be a Merry Christmas, but close enough.
So, here's what I figured out for my feeding regiment.
VEGATATIVE: Miracle Grow for Tomatoes with the dosage cut in half, do that once every 10 days or so. Haven't done it yet, but MAYBE add a capful of hydrogen peroxide each month.
FLOWERING: picked up some DOPE nutes at the local growshop. So my flowering cocktail is SOMETHING like this....once ever 10 day they get some TerraFlores and Cannazym...10m of TF and 4ml of Canna per 1/2 gallon water.
So, how's that sound? That's the best cocktail mix with the minimal amount of research i can do.
I'm also gonna be actively testing the Ph.
HEY...what's good for lowering/raising ph?
Got some pics. This weekend I'm puting in a Computer fan venting out the top.
Peace.

Hey nice grow going.
I'm really looking to get something similar going but I have no idea how to get my CFL's up and running.
How'd you get your lighting all together?
-
First Timer CFL bagseed grow...check out set up, love some advice?
Hey all again.
About my lights, friend. I just bought some shop lights and cut the reflector off, added a two-way bulb splitter, screwed in the CFLs and I've got em all plugged into 2 separate power strips.
Planning on wiring em all together as I get more CFL's for FLOWERING.
DISCOLORING PROBLEM!!! WOOOP! WOOP! WOOP!
Okay, my soils Ph is a healthy 7....yet I'm getting a few leaves on each plant that are a MUCH lighter green than the rest. Any ideas what this could be?
I've got some pics too. Fucking cat.

QUICK STONEY UPDATE.
So, my cab now has 2 computer fan exhaust points and a crude light proof vent near the bottom. It's covered in Mylar and I'm still updating the lighting as I go. See above posts to see what I'm workin' with.
As for the ladies? ( I HOPE) They are now one week into flowering, and I still cannot determine the sex. I've even taken some clones from all of em before I flowered em. I will update w/ pics tomorrow.
One thing...I STILL get dying/yellow leaves...some branches have no growth other than new growth and look very spindly...could this be from light not getting to em?
Lemme know, farmers. Peace.
-
First Timer CFL bagseed grow...check out set up, love some advice?
we have the similar problem with dying/yellow leafs !
my plants are in flowering for 2 weeks but i kept them in veg for i month ! Some leafs (most the bottom leafs ) turn yellow and just fall off . Temperature and humidity is right, runoff ph also !
Try to put your problem in PLANT PROBLEM section , maybe someone can help you.
I tried but no results ! If you figured out something, please let me now !
Peace !
-
First Timer CFL bagseed grow...check out set up, love some advice?
Yep, same thing with mine. Anything that doesn't get light seems to yellow and die, I don't think it's anything to worry about at all. I'd say either add side lighting or don't even worry about it.
-
First Timer CFL bagseed grow...check out set up, love some advice?
hmmm. . . maybe you have a point but in my case . . . leaf which is yellowing have plenty of light like any oder !
-
First Timer CFL bagseed grow...check out set up, love some advice?
The light seems to be the issue. As my Ph is fine, my ventillation is certainly adequate for the size and it CAN'T be the nutes. It seems like, since I'm LSTing, that I'm still covering up some of the newly developing leaves. I was just wondering if that's what they'll do if they don't get light....turn light green, than yellow, than whither....
Either way, it's PEANUT BUTTER JELLY TIME! I mean that, makin a sandwich.
PEACE!

Hello all. So, I'm 9 days into flowering and I think I've got my first MALE (boooo!). Pics below, lemme know if I'm being paranoid but I've already separated HIM (dickhead) from the rest (that aren't showing sex for sure yet) and am just waiting for some one here to say "KILL HIM!" before I give him the axe. So, whattya think.
I've also got some photos of the rest of the plants, my grow set up as it looks right now and also a pic from last week of some of those leaves that just get yellow and shrivel. The funny thing is they don't really get DRY....soft and yellow and just shrink. Think it's the light issues. We'll see.
Update again real soon, as this site has been the best resource for my first grow. Thanks again, all.

pollen may still be on it!
In regards to your light situation, mine had a slow start, but I added MANY more CFLs and they are now standing at about 6" with 4 nodes on some and one 5 soon to be 6 nodes.
I had one where ALL the leaves were light and crispy, she was a runt, but now she is one of the faster growing ones. Anyways all of the runt's new growth is a darker, more healthy looking color and she seems fine now. If I were you I'd rig up 2 more of those same contraptions and put them on the sides, and even put the lights a little closer :X
I dont have a camera, hopefully will pick one up for xmas or maybe after.
GL on your grow, I'll be watching
