Brownies for Beginners ... done right in a couple of hours
Well folks, I am sitting here with a nice batch of snacks baking in the oven right now so I thought I would be kind and share so that all you kids out there can bake up some killer Beginner Brownies.
Now the recipe is for Beginner Bakers, but don't be fooled - you need to be able to handle your herb cuz the effect is not a beginner's buzz!
Made from a store-bought Brownie Mix?
Ingredients
- ¼ oz Good Bud
- 1 packaged Brownie Mix for an 8? x 8? baking pan (in this example I used Chocolate Lovers Double Fudge Brownies Mix)
- 1/3 cup vegetable oil
- 1 egg
- 1/3 cup water
- 1 jar of pre-made Chocolate Frosting (optional)
Step One: Make the Canna Oil
Clean all of the bud, removing stems, seeds, and sun leaves. Place the seeds aside if you are so lucky to find good ones. I recommend using a large plastic plate (or Frisbee like I do) to separate the bud from the stems and a mixing bowl to hold the cleaned bud.
Place the cleaned bud in a coffee bean grinder and grind it into a fine powder.
Take the amount of oil specified in the store-bought brownie mix (I use organic coconut oil - high sat. fat , but not a GMO - genetically modified food), and add it to a stainless steel sauté pan on medium heat. Stir in the green bud powder as the oil is heating up, reducing heat to medium-low and cooking it for a total of 20 ?? 30 minutes. Make sure you reduce the heat early and cook the bud oil slowly. Do not let it heat to the point where the oil is smoking or the bud turns dark brown or black. The oil should be a greenish brown color and the bud material a golden or medium brown at most.
Alternatively you can use the same method I do if you have a crockpot - check out Flameon's HOW TO post here·
IMPORTANT: LET THE OIL COOL FOR A WHILE BEFORE ADDING IT TO THE MIX OR IT MAY REACT BADLY WITH THE WATER AND EGG. YOU DON'T WANT A FRIED EGG IN YOUR BROWNIES!
Optional: strain the oil through a cheesecloth, or add the unstrained bud oil to the brownie mix (which is what I do as long as I don't see any big ass stems or pieces in the oil) and follow the directions on the Brownie Mix package.
Step Two: Make the Brownie Mix
Preheat oven to 325 degrees while greasing the bottom of the 8?x8? metal baking pan. I use butter rather than shortening.
Combine the Brownie Mix, eggs, water, and fudge packet with the Green Bud Oil in the mixing bowl and stir by hand (for approximately 50 strokes) until well blended. Do not over blend or mix it too much.
Pour the brownie mix into the 8?x8? metal baking pan and distribute the mix evenly with a spatula or spoon for best results.
Place the baking pan in the 325 degree preheated oven and bake for approximately 35 ?? 40 minutes in a conventional oven, or 30-35 minutes if using a convection oven.
TIME OUT, GOTTA RUN REAL QUICK, THE TIMER WENT OFF AND THEY GOTTA COOL!! :stoned:
Remove brownies and place them on a wire rack to cool completely. In other words cool to the touch on the bottom of the pan.
Step Three: Finish the Brownies and Enjoy!
Take a spatula and run along sides of pan to separate the cooled brownie from the pan. Remove from baking pan by turning upside down over a plate or cutting board.
Optional: When brownie is completely cooled, spread on frosting generously or to suit your individual taste preference. Place the brownie in refrigerator to set up frosting.
Cut the 8?x8? brownie into 16 equal pieces in a 4x4 pattern. This is a 16 serving recipe.
Each delicious brownie is good for 4-6 hours. Two brownies can be a bit too much, but some people like to go for it, so give it a try and have fun! Personally, I recommend starting with ½ brownie, wait 2 hours, then consume more if you are not feeling the effects you desire.
These are very good for pain relief and insomnia, as well as relief from anxiety if you consume in moderate amounts. WARNING: Overconsumpation can result in a 'bad trip' and cause anxiety and related issues. Go slow until you know your personal tolerance!
That's it gals and guys. You just made MVP Beginner Brownies! I'll post pics from my crappy little camera phone in a bit... Enjoy!

Thanks man! My boyfriend and I are trading off stirring the saucepan gently as I speak. We didn't use quite as much bud - probably about a 20 bag - and ground it up in a coffee grinder, scooped out the keif and threw that in there, too. It smells nice, and the oil is starting to turn greenish. We looked all over in our store, but couldn't find coconut oil - we're using veggie oil instead. 14 grams of fat per tablespoon :)
That and some Ghiradelli Double Chocolate brownie mix...we'll report back and let you know how it turned out.

Oh yum! The Ghiradelli Double Chocolate is what I made 3 weeks ago and they were damn delicious!
I myself am just about to woof down one of the brownies that I made the other night when I wrote this post. I havn't been able to set aside 5-6 hours since then, which is what you need to be prepared for when you 'take flight'...
I'M REPEATING THIS TO BE CLEAR AND SAFE:
If you are new to edibles just be aware that they take much longer to kick in and have a much longer effect as well. In other words, oral ingestion creeps up on you!
I recommend starting with ½ brownie (based on 1/4 oz per batch), wait 2 hours, then consume more if you are not feeling the effects you desire. If you use less bud in the mix then apply common sense and adjust accordingly.
It is easy to say about an hour later, "This is having no effect, so I'll have just one more"... this is not a good idea as most effects intensify 2-3 hours after ingestion. Just be aware that overconsumpation can result in a 'bad trip' and cause anxiety and related issues. Go slow until you know your personal tolerance!
Enjoy!

So here is what's going on: I decided to go to the gym and run errands before sampling the brownie (for obvious reasons). I got back and showered and ate 1/2 brownie at 6pm on a relatively empty stomach.
Background:
1/4 of good buds in brownie batch
baked in 8 in x 8 in pan, then cut into 16 pieces
I ate 1/2 brownie so I have 15 1/2 pieces left
The Math shows that each brownie contains 0.44 gram, so I ingested approx. 0.22 gram
Personally, I prefer to gauge the effectiveness of the treat on an empty stomach b/c my system is much more responsive in this manner. In other words I know what situation I will get myself into if I have one after watching football and drinking beer all day, or if I eat a bowl of cereal early in the morning and then want a brownie a couple of hours later.
So right now I am feeling a little heady, craving a little more high - NOTE: This is the point where a lot of newbies screw up and munch down another one. Resist the urge! If you are 2-3 hours in and the effects havn't accelerated to the point where you are really, really buzzed THEN go ahead and have another 1/2 piece.
I'll check in about 8pm to give another update.

Brownies for Beginners ... done right in a couple of hours
OK, its now a bit after 830pm and I got hungry a little after 7pm and got a bite to eat. I'm still feeling kinda heady but not the body effects I normally do by now. I made this batch of brownies from the branches/buds that were KO-ed by the "Falling Cola" (read more), so they are a bit premature but still sticky and smelly.
So no surprise now - I decided to take another 1/2 brownie. Going into this I guessed the partially mature buds would be heady and I would need to go for whole brownie. I've decided that is the case so I now will see what this other 1/2 does and post again sometime...

Wow, that other 1/2 brownie had me couchlocked by 10pm and I was out like a light by midnight. Good stuff, next time I'm gonna eat a whole brownie about an hour after a decent meal and see how it works out for me.
Anyone else give this a try yet? What did you experience?

We put in way more weed than was advised, two small brownies each did the trick so well I was unable to come back and post yesterday. Took it easy this morning and had a half a brownie and a nap, waking up high is a surreal experience. Thanks for this wonderful treat.

Anybody ever try this with cheesecake brownies? I've got some oil left over from yesterday and I think I'm gonna run and get some cheesecake brownie mix and try with that....I'll post the outcome...

Never tried it but love experimenting with edibles so definitely take notes and post so I can see what happens! I'm sure there are others lurking here that would like to see the results too.

Nice, but I found that exact recipe was at a bookmarked site I had, it might even be a little easier to use, but anyway: Pot Brownies
Check it out, it goes into detail pretty nicely, I hate when guides don't elaborate and I'm stuck, because I honestly did not know what a cheesecloth was. lol. Nice guide OP. I'm going to make brownies on the 26th with 2 other people. We gonna use 5 grams I'll post how it went if I can remember lol.

Hey butters, looks pretty similar. Definitely tell us how your baking experience turns out...
A quick hint: if you use a regular aluminum bud grinder you will have to strain since that is a rough grinder. If you use a coffee bean grinder for your cannabis it turns it into a fine powder and you won't have to strain it and you won't have crunchy bits of herb in the mix.
Also using a crock pot to make the cannaoil is a better way to go IMO since you set it up, let it heat, and you don't have to stir it or watch it. The crockpot method takes a bit longer but seems to activate the herb more for a super potent treat/trip. In other words it maximizes the potency of the oil.
Just make sure not to overdo it consumptionwise... or be prepared for a wild ride! Good luck and have fun!

Ok, I have a question...I have a little over a 1/4 oz. of some terrible bud. It tastes so bad when I smoke it, I've decided to try to make some brownies for the first time with it. Since it's below avg. bud, is it even worth the effort?
-
Brownies for Beginners ... done right in a couple of hours
Hmmm, the bigger question is does it give you a buzz? If it does then it is worth trying it out in a brownie mix.
You'll probably want to clean it really well and after you prepare the oil strain it (unless you use a coffee grinder to pulverize the herb into a fine powder).
Besides, it sounds like it will taste better in chocolate brownies than in a pipe or joint.

Actually, no, it doesn't, but I'm used to good stuff, so I was hoping that if I baked it into brownies, it would get me a little high, at least. I just don't want to waste it.

IMO anything is worth a try once. Therefore if you have the time and the $4.00 for the ingredients, ya might as well give it a whirl. Who knows you might be surprised. If you bake 'em up post back the results so we all can learn from your experience.

could you make weed cookies? I imagine it would be very good!
-
Brownies for Beginners ... done right in a couple of hours
I make pot brownies and cookies every harvest ... but, I started using a crockpot recently, makes it so much easier ... I melt down a whole stick of unsalted butter with an ounce or two of weed, plus enough water to keep it 'soupy' ... put the crockpot on Low for 6 hours or so, after it heats up ... the water keeps the mixture temps to under 212, you may have to add water occasionally ... strain, etc ... when it cools, the butter wil harden, lift it off the remaining water ... mix the cannabutter into your recipes ...

Ok, just popped them in the oven. I'm so glad I decided to do this...the bud I used wasn't good, but at least now I know how to do it. The only thing I did differently was use a 13 x 9 pan and a diff kind of brownie mix. I honestly don't think I'll feel too much from these, but that cannaoil suuuuurrrree did smell good warming up
Will report back after I've had some

Brownies for Beginners ... done right in a couple of hours
I tried a recipe very close to this one last time I made brownies, and it works great. I read a lot of other recipes and they cook their oil for stuff like 6 hours, thats insane, I don't see any benefit in this as pretty much all the resin is dissolved in the butter after 30 mins tops. With my similar recipe, 1/16th of the mix containing .5g was enough to give me a retarded buzz. I ate a decent meal and about 1-2 hours after ate the brownie and the effect is so strong it takes away any desire I have to get high for at least a week.

Very cool! A big part of "cooking with cannabis" is the experimentation and trial/error aspect. I am glad you took the plunge and decided to go for it. We are looking forward to hearing how it all turns out!
I can tell you from experience it takes a little practice, but it is fun to witness one's skills improve quickly after just a few batches. Same applies with growing, but growing is a lot more involved and takes longer to see the fruits of your labor.

Ok, since I used a 13 x 9 pan, and it was bad weed, I had two brownies about 6 hours ago. I felt the total body relaxation, felt kinda like I had taken half a muscle relaxer or something. Then I promptly fell asleep! I can see now how canna recipes would be sooo beneficial to people suffering from so many types of physical ailments.
What a shame my state is so close-minded. But, can't expect much living in the Bible belt. :(

I love ur recipe MVP, i used one almost identicle and, and like u said i ate 2 browniew and was in the same seat for like 5 hours. Anyways , i just harvested a plant and was wondering if i could use the little bottom shit buds and the sugar leaves to simmer in the oil??? If this does work, i would probably put in more like a 1/2 oz. of plant matter (bottom shit buds and sugar leaves.)
Will my plan work?
-
Brownies for Beginners ... done right in a couple of hours
Should work. Fire it up with somewhere between 1/2 oz to 1 oz and (as long as the grow/bud is good) you'll have success.
Make sure you cook the oil a bit longer - I sometimes let it simmer in my crock pot up to 3 hours - to get all of the THC activated and into the oil. Believe me it is worth the effort!

Ok thanks mvp for the faq. I'm going to be making some brownies soon and had a few questions. First I am going to be using about an ounce of really good mids (yes oxymoron), should I simmer the weed and oil for any longer then 30 min since I am using a good bit of bud? Second, if I can't find coconut oil whats the second best oil that I should use. And lastly how long should I preheat the oil before dumping the weed in? Thanks.

A few thoughts here:
1) I personally have never used more than a half ounce in a batch of brownies. They were so potent that I could only eat 1/2 brownie at a time, and there were 16 brownies per batch (32 servings total). Something to consider...
2) If you have not cooked with cannabis before, I recommend starting small so if anything goes wrong, you don't ruin a large amount of herb. I started with a quarter, everything went fine, so I stepped up to a half. It is super important to pulverize the herb (coffee grinder) so that all the THC can be activated and extracted.

When I am making oil that will be used for brownies, I let it go for up to an hour, even longer if using a crock pot. Using a crock pot to make the cannaoil is a better way to go IMO since you set it up, let it heat, and you don't have to stir it or watch it. It is also less likely to burn the oil. The crockpot method takes a bit longer but seems to activate the herb more for a super potent treat/trip. In other words it maximizes the potency of the oil.
Whatever you do, if you are cooking the oil on the stovetop instead of a crockpot, don't leave it unattended. If it begins to burn or create a lot of odor, you are burning off THC. Plan to read a magazine or book in the kitchen while making the oil. It will be well worth the effort.

When making brownies I will use either coconut oil, or regular vegetable oil that is high in saturated fat. I don't recommend Olive Oil. I heat the oil for about 5 minutes before adding the herb. Be sure that the oil is NOT smoking or you will be wasting THC by burning it off... If the oil just barely bubbles every minute or two but is not smoking, that is what I shoot for personally.

I found a box of Brownie mix this morning.I had just Burned 2 bowls earlier and thought,I would try this out.
I didnt have any coconut oil,So I used some olive oil and some butter.I dont have a scale or coffee grinder,So I threw a bunch of nuggets in the magic bullet and let that stuff grind.I got about 3 Tablespoons of Powdered weed after wards and heat it up in a saucepan,at just below medium for awhile and turned it down to low and just kep stirring for about 30 minutes.I figured I had a small amount of weed,so I decided to make a half batch of brownies and put them in cupcake tins.I licked the spoon of the mix after and it tasted good,I could definately taste the weed.
I got them in the Oven for another 10 minutes.I dunno if they will even work out,but either way,the munchies are kickin in and Cant wait for the brownies.

Sounds like you are on your way! My best advice is to make sure that you don't eat too many the first time around since ingested herb produces more intense, long lasting highs... just not as quickly. I usually feel it hit me in waves, starting after about 45-90 minutes - depending on whether I have an empty stomach or not. Then I feel new peaks about every hour or two until 4-6 hours from the time I ate the first one.
It all depends on the quality of the herb, and how well the THC infused into the oil. Sometimes I need to eat 2 brownies, but I never eat the 2nd one until 90-120 minutes into the high. The first time my GF ate brownies with me she munched down 2 of them right away. She was TOO HIGH - I told her but she didn't listen, silly girl :D.
At any rate let us know how they turn out for you..... enjoy the flight!

Okay,Sorry for not getting back sooner.
After I got them outthe oven and cooled,I ate one....I was still high from when I was smoking earlier, but I waited an hour and nothing....>So I ate another.I wound up eating all of them(8 Brownie muffins) with some chocolate milk.I had the munchies and figured since 2 of them within 2 hours wasn't getting me higher I might as well down the whole batch.(I only made a half batch).
My experience was,I didnt get higher than I was,I stayed the same and I fell asleep at like 3:30pm and I woke up this morning still feeling as high as I was before I slept.I Didnt get higher, but the stoned feeling I had before I ate the brownies seemed to linger for HOURS.I slept for 15 hours. My brother told me they woke me cause they thought I was dead. But I dont remember being woken up.He said I was sleeping really still.
I would like to do this again, with more weed though.I like how I am still feeling stoned.Pretty long lasting.I wonder if you could keep the brownies in the freezer and if they would still be good throughout the week....?

Brownies for Beginners ... done right in a couple of hours
OK so I made the brownies. First we used the whole ounce because some people that were in on the brownies were not able to meet up before we cooked them so we thought it would be unfair to smoke a bunch of the weed without them. Plus I wanted the brownie to be the first time I got stoned that day. We cooked the oz in oil for about an hour. I used a little more oil than the recipe called for and 1 more egg. The weed was ground up pretty well so we decided not to strain the oil. So we cooked them and they turned out perfect. Actually good. Not really greasy or oily. So 8 people are in on the brownies, we decided to cut the pan into 8 pieces. It was my idea to make the brownies but a few things happened and a friend actually ended up getting the weed and spotting all the money to get it. It happened pretty quick and we all just decided to eat the whole brownie. So basically there was an eighth in each brownie. Man they were great. I went to a ween concert and had a great time. Didn't really do much dancin but I haven't been in the dancin mood anyway lately. It was almost like I was trippin at times. Really a pretty strange stone. Never really gotten that f'd up off of eating weed. This time I did. Anyway your recipe worked great, next time I might make them a little less stout. Maybe. Thanks
